The BBQ chicken dark meat is good, but the white meat tends to be dry. Also, make sure to ask them not to burn the skin, as they tend to blacken the BBQ chicken. They are friendly. We like the BBQ sauce.
It Is What It Is. It's a pretty no frills place. The wait staff doesn't pretend they think you are the most exciting individual on earth. Seat yourself. They'll get to you in a reasonable amount of time. The selection is limited. (To me that's a good thing). Reasonably priced. Proper portions. I think I'm a bigger fan of their weekend breakfasts. I'm not a barbecue snob. Won't debate authenticity. Not every restaurant experience needs to be legendary. As a noted Minnesotan might say, every visit here is well above average. Just one mystery man's opinion.
Love Breakfast Here.
I love the breakfast, it is one of my favorite morning places to go and be lazy. We eat, read the paper and hang out. There is a great patio in the summer.
The only thing is that I am afraid of one of the servers. I am on egg shells around her, I kind of feel like it is "no soup for you" from Seinfeld when we go. It is a joke for my husband and I and we try to be really nice and not ask for anything extra and that seems to keep the anger at bay from the server.
I love the pancakes and they a mexican breakfast thing that is great too!
NOT A GOOD PLACE FOR KIDS!!!!!!. My husband & I used to go to Caps quite frequently for their weekend breakfast. The food is pretty yummy & it is right in our neighborhood. We went there today withour 15 mo. old daughter only to discover that they DONT HAVE HIGHCHAIRS! I am really suprised/disappointed that a neighborhood restaurant would go out of its way to be unfriendly to kids. We won't be going back anytime soon - I would rather trek it Longfellow Grill.
AWESOME BREAKFAST. We eat at Caps fairly often as we live in the neighborhood. Some of the best breakfast around..... Can't say a lot about their lunch or dinner as one of us is a vegetarian and they don't have anything other than a side salad. Would be great if they could have some veggie burgers in the freezer. The non vegetarian one of us has had the BBQ and found it quite delicious. One last thing, coffee is bad. So have your coffee before you go for a great breakfast.
Don't Believe the Hype!!!. I am not a restaurant critic nor do I pretend to be, but when there is BBQ this bad you have to let other people know about it. Maybe this place was "good" back in the day but it is not what these others who gave it "5 stars" want you to believe, just look at their history of reviewing other restaurants, they only reviewed this one place and no others!!!! I am just saying it looks a little fishy. I went there because of all the "great reviews" but was sadly disappointed!!!!! The BBQ was tough and the service was mediocre.
Breakfast of the gods.
I am hardly able to eat breakfast anywhere else due to holding up to Cap's standard of hearty portions and mouth-watering goodness. I've tried nearly everything on the weekend breakfast menu over the years and have ALWAYS been pleased.
Some reviews are not impressed with Cap's BBQ - perhaps they don't know what BBQ is? Cap's uses the best cuts of meat and transforms it into pure taste. It's incredible! The pork stacker is my personal favorite and I have their bottle of BBQ sauce in my fridge.
I recommend this "Mom & Pop" place to everyone!!
COME HUNGRY AND LEAVE SATISFIED!!!!.
IT IS A SMALL PLACE FOR SURE, BUT THAT ADDS TO ITS AMBIENCE.
THE FOOD IS GREAT, WHETHER IT IS BREAKFAST OR LUNCH.
THE SERVICE IS OK, FRIENDLY ENOUGH.
THE BBQ SANDWICHES AND BURGERS ARE GREAT.
THE BREAKFAST MEALS ARE BIG AND HEARTY AND ARE DELIGHTFULLY UNIQUE.
THE PORK SANDWICH WITH EXTRA SAUCE AND THE COLESLAW ON THE TOP IS THE BEST.
THE BURGERS ARE GOOD WITH THE CAJUN BURGER BEING MY FAVORITE.
PRICES ARE REASONABLY, SERVICE OK AND LOCATION VERY ACCESSIBLE.
PARKING AND SEATING IS LIMITED SO KEEP THAT IN MIND WHEN YOU ARE GOING THERE!!
ENJOY, I KNOW I DID!!
Not Worth It!!!. My husband I tried this place 7 years ago and didn't think it was all that great like City Pages said so. My husband and I thought we'd give this place a second chance. We were in the mood for BBQ and we love Famous Dave's but we really didn't want to spend Famous Dave's prices. I ordered their famous beef brisket sandwich, on the menu they rave that it is smoked and slow cooked for 12 hours, it was like shoe leather but worse!!! Thank God my husband ordered a hamburger; he was nice enough to split it with me. The hamburger and the service wasn't much better, sure the pretty girls are nice to look at but lacked in their waitressing skills. I do not recommend this place at all, unless you want a shoe leather BBQ sandwich or an average hamburger and mediocre service.
No frills, no nonsense, great food!. We were delighted by Cap's when we made our first visit the week we moved into the neighborhood. If you want somewhere to go that's just EASY, flavorful, with down-home style, no nonsense, food, this is it. My husband and I like having a place we can show up in jeans and feel completely at home. We love their burgers and bbq pulled sandwiches, good onion rings and fries and I even had a good tossed salad with chicken here once. Their weekend breakfasts are awesome, too. The staff has always been very friendly and responsive with us. We go there atleast monthly. My only complaint on the weekend breakfast was the fat-free creamer (I prefer regular half/half). Also don't care for the metal skillets they serve some food on, since they slide around on the table. (My husband orders his food on a normal plate) Other than that, Cap's is AWESOME!!
