Used to be a good place to go – We have been going to Pepitos for 30+ years and it has really gone down the toilet.
Pepitos seems to really take their customers and the business that they get for granted.
There is an attitude of general disdain toward the customers. Kind of, if you don't like it, we don't care if you ever come back attitude. Drove all the way from St Paul and Eden Prairie (to meet family) for horrible service and slop for food dinner. Took over 45 minutes to get a basic dinner (taco plates and mexican pizza). What they finally gave us was totally insulting. The Mexican pizza was very tiny and came on a ripped tortilla at room temp with 12 shreds of cheese. We didn't say anything as the attitude of the staff there was very cold. Not welcoming at all.
I remember all the remodels of this restaurant over the years as they expanded. I remember meeting Tony Olivia in there (MN TWINS) when he was still playing. This place used to be cool. Our family won't be going there anymore as we refuse to be ripped off and would rather spend our money at a business that appreciates it's customers. Wake up Pepitos and realize where your bread is buttered.
Won't go back – Was excited to eat lunch here, as it used to be one of my favorite restaurants, and I hadn't been to Pepitos in years. My friend wanted Tamales..."no tamales today". OK, then instead she ordered Tacos--"El Pastor". When it arrived, 2 teeny soft tacos arrived in a plastic red basket with checked paper. No kidding....we giggled and thought it was a mistake and was a kids' menu item. The corn tortilla used could not have been bigger than 5 inches. All that was in the taco was beef and cilantro. Bland, boring, not even a garnish. I think it was $8-$9. Ridiculous. The server was kind and asked how lunch was...we mentioned the size of the tacos for the price, and she came back and said "they were steak Tacos"......
I ordered flautas/Taquitos...they were OK, nothing to get excited about. I would not return to Pepitos....it is too bad. They at one time were a destination for many people I know.
Zero Stars – Nice waitress said she worked there 9 years so I asked her recommendation and she said she gets the chili relleno for herself it is so good. Since I love that dish and she confirmed they make them at the restaurant instead of buying them already prepared, I thought this was going to be a good experience. What I got was a grease-sodden, tired, most pathetic chili relleno ever in my life. The sauce on top and layers through the chili tasted like homogeneous and bland nondescript moist goo. The beans and rice looked old and lifeless with a taste that matched their appearance.
Pros: My fork came with a free appetizer dried on it.
Pepito-Bismol's?? – On vacation from Chicago, 1st time to twin cities. home of Lil Mexico (for the record). I wanted to see if there was any comparison, so my wife asked the front desk for a recommendation, & this is what we got>> An over-priced, cup full of lipstick, no nacho bringing, gay waiting, beans "OR" rice, non-mexican cooking, Ultimate Burrito is .30 more then the regular Burrito, hole in the wall, wanna be, authentic mexican restaurant, owned by gringos, who claim to have, brown pride somewhere along their ancestory, but were really born on a farm & expect a real Mexican to place an order.. C'mon, you really think with 5 minutes of this I wanted to gamble my $ on their food. No TY!!! Glad I didn't after reading these reviews, & hope you don't either!!!
Poor Customer Service – Up until tonight, we have been loyal Pepitos customers. But tonight we ordered our food and the waitress asked if we wanted rice or beans with it. We said rice and later learned we were charged extra. When we confronted the waitress, rather than apologizing and taking the $2.95 off our tab, she went on to justify herself saying "no...I asked if you wanted an extra side..." Being a former server, her response should have been, "oh I am sorry for the miscommunication, let me take care of that..." - DONE. It's too bad they are losing our business over a $3.00 bowl of rice.
I paid what for what – Where to start? It took over an hour for us to be served our food (our server was excellent - she apologized for the wait and checked in with us several times - you could tell she was concerned with our experience). One us ordered a taco with black beans instead of meat and the beans where cold (the manager made it seem like that is how taco is made with cold beans). The kids meal was not enough to feed a 2 year old (our child is older) and the cost for a tortilla with some cheese sprinkled on and few black olives (the menu did say a few - they meant a few) was outragious. The manager was tyring really hard not to be defensive when I spoke with him about the food but he was irritated with my comments (especially when I said the canned beans in the taco where cold as they make their beans - sorry?). The prices are too high for what little food we did receive. The best deal was the chimichanga (the rice was mushy). But if you want something fun to read - the menu was great reading: tacos come in a CHEAP plastic basket; the California burger stated generous amount of vegetables (one small lettuce leaf, one or two thinnly sliced tomato and two thinnly slice onion rings) and there was something about 2 1/4 pound patties weighing as much as a volkswagon???? Sorry we will not be returning.
Pepito's is overpriced and has lost it's Charm.. – I used to think Pepito's was good but over the years they have lost all there Mexican Charm they are so well known for. The are extremely overpriced! and the staff has no sense of Mexican hospitality.
Last night I really hit the floor.. I ordered the " Carne Asada" Burrito off the menu and she didn't know what I meant!, So I hat to say steak Burrito.. Yipes.. When they brought out my ?? $12.00+ Steak Burrito, it was plopped into some cheap plastic burger basket with a sheet of tacky paper.. The burrito looked White and Cold, not even a singe garnishment!! . BTW, It was Cold also! When I told here her I was shocked that it was not served on a plate, she said, she could put it on one if I REALLY wanted it. I told her I would manage... <poor> .. Then Never came back to see how we were doing.. I really wanted another Margarita after our long wait for dinner as well..
Anyhow, I hope the do a big improvement on their atmosphere!!

Will Never Go Back! – My husband and I visited the Minneapolis restaurant this past Monday. It took 50 minutes for our order to get to our table. When it did finally come (we both ordered Ultimate Burritos w/grilled steak), my order was wrong - no beef, only black beans. The waitress was willing to take it back to the kitchen to get it fixed, but we had just finshed waiting 50 minutes to get it in the first place! I told her no, I would just eat it as is but expected to get credited for the price of the entree since it was wrong. She said she would talk to the Manager. She came back and said, that he would only comp our bill 1/2 the price of the entree since I had agreed to eat it! The burritos we did get, were terrible - no sauteed veggies as the menu said. The "grilled steak" looked like 3 day old roast beef leftovers. I told the waitress to tell her Manager, we were very disappointed and that we would not be back. We finished our meal, do you think we saw anything of the Manager? Any good Manager would have come to our table, spoken with us and compted us for at least the entree (how much does it cost them to make it? - $2.00-$3.00). We ended up paying a $65.00 bill (drinks because we had to wait so long) - they made a ton of money off us, but the Manager "Kenny" (as we saw printed on our bill) couldn't even come out to talk to us. No fault of our waitress Samantha. She did a good job, and was just doing damage control that should have been the responsiblity of her Manager. We will never be back, will tell others not to come, and recommend that you not go either.
If zero stars was an option . . . – I ate at Pepitos last night and it was the single most outrageous dining experience of my life. I ordered a vegetarian dish, since I haven't eaten meat in over twelve years. When I bit into it, it was filled with ground beef instead of grilled vegetables! I spit it out and informed the waitress. She didn't so much as apologize for the mistake, instead blaming it on the kitchen staff. After about 10 minutes, I received a vegetarian dish. I ate it -- it was subpar but at least it didn't use to have a face. When the bill came out, I was shocked to see that I hadn't even been given a discount for the mistake. I asked the waitress about it, and she again blamed it on the kitchen staff and told me that the situation was completely rectified by the fact that I did, eventually, receive a vegetarian dish. I asked to speak to a manager. He came out in jeans and a smirk. Again, no apology for the mistake, no acknowledgment of the fact that someone's error caused me to consume a product that I haven't touched in over a decade. He was actually combative, saying things like, "So you want us to pay for your food even though you ate it?" He finally said, "Fine, whatever" and walked away. There are too many great restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul to waste your time and money at a place that treats you to terrible customer service and outright disrespect coupled with food that is mediocre at best. Never again, Pepitos!
Don't waste your time or money! – The food is average at best but definitely overpriced. The Margaritas come out of a spicket (unless you order top shelf tequila) and are also overpriced . We used to overlook those things because it was close to home and there were a few bartenders and waitstaff that were really nice and cared about us and their other customers, but we noticed that as soon as those employees seemed to be getting to know folks and other regulars; they were there less and less until they were no longer there at all. What's up with that?( It"s a proven fact that it's those employees who know their customers that keeps the business coming back)
The management is poor and can be downright rude at times. They give you the impression that if you don't like the way they are doing things, don't go there, which is exactly what we are going to do after being regulars there for the past 3 years.
I can say that I am happy that they bought and reopened the Parkway Theatre. They have good movies, shows and events there, and real butter on their popcorn. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend Peptios to anyone and would go as far to say find another Mexican Restaurant to go to. There are plenty more out there with better, more authentic food, prices and management .
