Once-divey booze hut is now a worthy destination..
A 2009 renovation transformed this once-divey booze hut into a worthy destination for wine, beer and spirits. The intersection of 48th Street and Chicago is a charming south-side hub, complete with a hardware store, bookshop, ice cream joint, movie theater and more. Ken & Norm’s predates many of these places, but a major facelift and interior renovation in 2009 have brought it up to speed with the times and the upward mobility of the neighborhood. Once known as a glamour-less, unremarkable place to pick up a sixer, the shop now boasts an enviable selection of wines from around the world (ask about their wine club) and an oversized and fully refrigerated beer room. Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or just desperate to get home and kick back with a cold one, the amiable staff is expert at helping you get the most bang for your drinking buck.
