Tips for Urban Harvest

Is there anybody there?. I am planning a board meeting for 25 people a few weeks from now and one of the attendees has specifically requested that the breakfast and lunch come from Urban Harvest. I am happy to oblige, except I have been calling for three days and no one ever answers and the answering machine is full!?! Not an ideal business model, although based on the other reviews, this lack of basic customer service sounds like par for the course.

Horrible Service - slow staff.. This local hot spot is fantastic for its soup selection - always fresh - not like at alot of lunch places when if you show up a little later than 'the lunch rush' your stuck with broth only - their soup is prepared fresh and always full. Deserts are to die for and they have diet Dr. Pepper in the fountain pop- AWESOME!

BUT THE STAFF IS THE WORST! It is honestly a running joke around our office that 100% of them have got to be high on pot. Do NOT go if you are in a hurry, need to be somewhere or just need to pop in for a cup of coffee. Is there an interview process for this place? Is a requirement that you have to 'hate your life, hate your job and must smoke pot" - Its a down right shame..would frequent more but, some of us have jobs to attend without the ability to take a 2hr lunch, just enough time for them to toast a bagel. Shameful.

Great soup, fair atmosphere. I went to here for the first time on my lunch break today. I ordered some soup and cornbread to go and I am incredibly impressed with the food! I am fairly picky about what I eat too as I love to cook and have very sensitive tastebuds. The soup, Chicken Wild Rice, is the best I've had. The consistency is fantastic, not too runny nor too much in the direction of a stew. There is actually a lot of chicken and wild rice!! That sounds obvious but it's not according to some restaurants. I didn't even feel the need to add salt or pepper, which I always do. Excellent flavor. I was pretty impressed with the cornbread as well. It was not dry, which restaurant cornbread often is, has good flavor, and is large for the price. However, it tasted a little like the plastic wrap it had been hanging out in. That, plus a fair atmosphere--neither outstanding nor horrible--are my only complaints.

worst. service. ever.. It is really too bad. I live in the neighborhood and would prefer to support my local independently owned restaurants and cafes rather than a Caribou or a Starbucks. Unfortunately, the Urban Harvest just doesn't measure up. The food is good enough, the coffee is so-so, but the service is consistently bad. Would it hurt the staff to smile and say "hello"? And if you are in a hurry, forget about it. Even if you are the only customer in the place, you will wait, and wait, and wait to be helped. Over the last 4 or 5 years I have gone in several times with the intention of giving them another chance, but I am disappointed every time.

One unfriendly employee spoils the experience. I moved to NE Mpls. a year ago and have been to Urban Harvest several times since. My first couple of experiences were great...good food, good coffee, friendly service, nice atmosphere. The last several times I have stopped in however there has been the same employee who has been unfriendly and gotten my order wrong. Today she was there again, took our order and money and walked away without passing the info. on to the gentleman making the coffees. She should have stayed away...he was friendly and helpful. We had to re-tell him our order to be filled. Also, I had a coffee card half full (10 punches and get a free drink) and she took it and transferred the punches to a different card that gave 25% off after 10 punches and 30 to get a free coffee. I want my old card back!!! Nice way to be appreciated as a good customer. All of the other coffee shops I have been to have 11th drink free cards. Coffee drinks turn a large profit! Having to purchase 30 to get a free one is an insult. Lastly...the coffees were not good today...tasted harsh or burnt...did they maybe change brand of beans??? I used to like this place but would not recommend it it anymore. I won't be going back! URBAN HARVEST...YOUR NEW CARDS ARE A RIPOFF, YOUR COFFEE IS BAD, AND THE UNFRIENDLY GIRL WITH THE DREADY HAIR, PIERCINGS, AND STURGUS SHIRT IS THE WORST!!! MISTAKE HIRING HER!! SHE IS NOT DOING YOUR BUSINESS ANY GOOD!

YUM!. I love the food here! I've only eaten here twice, and have had the same thing both times. The lox and cream cheese sandwich are wonderful, and I ADORE the Caesar Salad! I was surprised by how filling it is -- AND I didn't even miss the anchovies!

Editorial Review. A bakery and cafe near the Quarry strip mall, good for conversation or a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Just what the neighborhood needed. Great sandwiches, soups and salads but you must try the dessert. Everything is made onsite and it shows. Quality is very visable. I am not a huge coffee drinker but there is a huge list of drinks they can make. Come for the food and stay for the live music on the weekends and the cozy fireplace.
