We had read so much and spoken to so many people and nobody had suspected diet. Dr. Oakes is a keen observer of animals and excellent teacher for humans. And his staff is great as well. We appreciate Dr. Oakes's wisdom.
HIghly recommended Vet and staff.
I switched from a higher priced Vet to Dr Oaks a few years ago and have never regretted the decision. His care of my three rescue dogs is excellent and he also cared for all of my numerous foster dogs.
I have recommended Dr Oaks and staff to many friends, all of whom have had great experiences. Dr Oaks and staff have always taken the time to educate me. He also diagnosed a case of sarcoptic mange, which is difficult to diagnose, in one of my fosters and successfully treated the mange.
I have always appreciated the knowledge, passion for animals and straight shooting from this Vet and his staff. A couple of years ago I switched dog food and all three of my dogs gained weight. He mentioned the weight gain and we had a good discussion about it (seeing them every day I was not aware of how much they had gained).
I would expect to be the recipient of a stern talk if I were ever to bring in a badly behaved animal over which I had no control. There is no reason to subject other people or the office staff to dangerous behavior.
Longtime happy clients. I have been living in this neighborhood for over 20 years. I've always gone to Dr. Oakes. I think he's wonderful, and I totally trust him with my animals. (I'm taking one of my cats in today, as a matter of fact!) Both he and the front desk staff have always been kind and helpful, and are loving to my animals. What more could you want?
Inconsistent. I have been gonig to this Vet for a number of years, and have had mostly decent experiences. There have been times where the service is good and have had no issues. Then there are the times where the service at the front desk is unfriendly and lacking. The last visit was a horrifying for my mother, who was heloing me out, and for my dog. ( a mini dachshund) The Vet tech mishandled my dog who is known to be snippy in the office because he is scared and then asked my mother to muzzle the dog after she lost control. After which my mother was trying to concole the dog but was scolded and told to go back and wait. My dog was so scared and mishandled that insted of giving up the tech continued to force control over my dog that once the dog was given back to my nother he pooped all over, and had been so traumatized that continued to shake and hide the entire night. I did go talk to the techs and they response was not in the least appologetic and felt that they did nothing wrong. I will never go back and hope that this review would change your mind as well. When service is good it's fine but when it isn't good it's not just bad it is appalling.
Excellent ,Affordable, Quality ,pet care for my Cat.. The vet at Diamond Lake has always taken very good care of my cat. I have been a customer for about 5 years now, ever since my friend referred me. They always give very good directions on how to care for your cat. I love this vet and even drive all the way from New Hope just to go there.
Very Good. I have been going to DLAH since I moved into the neighborhood. Dr. Oakes has been treating my dog and two cats since and always given compassionate, understanding care. (every thing from yearly visits to a fight with a raccoon that gave one of my cats bad lacerations). I know others who drive across town to use DLAH and all have been very happy.
Great Vet!. We have been going to Diamond Lake Animal Hospital for 11 years with our two Australian Shepherds. They actually LIKE going to the vets. One of my dogs is very nervous, and he is able to make her feel comfortable. I feel lucky to have Dr. Oakes right in the neighborhood.
VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. Dr. Oakes moved into my neighborhood 20 years ago. I took my 3 cats in for fleas at the same time I set of a flea bomb in my house. The staff said to give him this new kind of flea drops on their skin, I asked if it was safe and nothing would make them sick. They said, "Oh No", it's safe. So they gave this stuff to all 3 cats. I walked home with the 3 cats in the kennel and sat outside my home with them while waiting for the flea bomb to be done when all of a sudden, all 3 cats began to cry, shake and foam at the mouth. This horrible smell was coming from them. I thought they were dying. I rushed them back to the vet, this time with my boyfriend who witnessed this event. He told Dr. Oakes what just happened, Dr. Oakes was so cold and said it was just coincidental that all 3 had foamed at the mouth and that this incident had nothing to do with the flea medicine. My boyfriend got angry at his really poor attitude and acted like he didn't care about our cats at all. The next thing I knew, Dr. Oakes was actually in my boyfriends face yelling at him and drawing his fists. I realized this Dr was crazy. I knew then why he had tortured my poor cat when he declawed him and only "Glued" his open paws shut and didn't even bandage him upon going home. Cat litter got into the "Glued" wound and he began bleeding all over the house. We had to take him to the Golden Valley hospital, they were shocked at the crappy way Dr Oakes did the surgery. They stitched his paw up, AND bandaged it for petes sake, anyone would do that, and then gave us antibiotics for him. All this because Dr. Oakes didn't want to take the time for my cat and declaw him properly. So, that is 2 events that happened to us. We give the sign of the cross when ever we pass his office which is daily. We cannot stand the man. He is a creepy fellow. I don't think he likes cats.
Very satisfied. I love Diamond Lake Animal Hospital. It is a very comfortable atmosphere, and my dog Zoe loves it. I knew the moment we walked in for Zoe's first shots that this was going to be our vet. It is reasonably priced, and such friendly staff. It is the kind of place where they get to know you and your pet, and are excited to see you when you walk in the door. I always feel confident leaving my dog in their hands. If you love South Minneapolis, you will love this clinic. Dr. Oakes is very straight forward, and never takes up to much of your time. I would strongly recommend Diamond Lake Animal Hospital for any of your pets.
Very satisfied with Dr. Oakes and his staff.
I am very pleased with Dr. Oakes and his staff.
We were tired of the high prices at VCA clinics, and tried Diamond Lake on the recommendation of a neighbor.
Dr. Oakes explains things well, and is very friendly.
