Best In Minneapolis.
This is about as close to real southern Q that you're going to find. I live in Florida and had to spend about two months in Mn for work. I tried just about every BBQ place I could find and this place was hands down the very best. The pulled pork was dead on.
I keep one of their handwritten take out menus on my office wall to remind me just how much of a hoot this place is. If I ever have to go back to Mn then you can bet that I'm making a beeline back to there. Good stuff.
Scott Ja-Mama's is Good Eating Ribs. I have been going to Scott Ja-Mama's for many years and always have enjoyed their great food. I stumbled upon his tiny shop, across from the Holiday station, and had a rack. WOW!! Now, I'm a fan of Market BBQ and Famous Dave's, but will take Scott's over both. His Pulled Pork sandwiches taste great and are priced just right. Scott's the cook with family helping out. Theme is Hole in the Wall, Three Stooges, Wizard of Oz with a little Vern Gagne tossed in. They have a table to sit at and you can street park or slide in out back. Try them!!
Scotts is the best in the twin cities. I had heard all about this place from a lot of people, so i had to try it and it did not disappoint. The people there are so friendly. The food was incredible. I had the pork sandwich and a full rack with mild sauce which cant miss. They are open Wednesday through Saturday and they deliver everyday after 5 p.m. It is a good place to eat in if it isnt busy. It was some of the best barbecue I have ever had.
Only ok.
The service was great, but the food missed the mark. The sauce was decent, but the ribs were pretty dried out and lacking real meat. I twice baked potatos and chicken are both delicious.
Bottom line: If you're looking for the best BBQ in MPLS, hit Ted Cook's 19th Hole BBQ. Blows Scott's outta the water.
I cant complimentthis place enough. My dad and I stopped by this place last night. I've traveled a fair amount and love to try new places to eat. This is the only place that has motivated me enough to sign up for a review site and write a positive review. WOW. I have never had such wonderful service. Great food, Great prices, and the most friendly people you could ever find at a place to eat. The only downside tot his review is that by sharing such a great place... I have to share it. Thanks Scott Ja-mama's, I'll be back.
Outstanding Southern Barbecue; Best BBQ Chicken in the area.
I had the spareribs and the chicken. The ribs were outstanding, but they were a little dry. The dryness takes them down a peg from the extreme top tier represented by Baker's Ribs and Qfanatic--but they are still very good and recommended. However, the chicken was a revelation; some of the best I've ever had, and certainly the best in the TC area that I've tried.
I like their sauces, I had them blend mild and hot (they call this "mot"). They have very friendly service as well.
What a waste of time!!!!. Drove 30 minutes out of our way only to be told they were out of ribs for 45 minutes. Out of Ribs? At a Rib Joint? We won't waste our time again.
I don?t understand the hype about this place. I am always searching for a good BBQ place, after trying so many bad BBQ places in Minneapolis I lowered my expectations. I am searching for a somewhat decent BBQ place in Minneapolis. Anyway, I went there today, I had the ribs which were so dry and no meat on them.I watched him cook the ribs and he was cooking them on the grill. I also had the steak sandwich which was good. I liked the guy, he seemed like a good guy.
A strictly takeout joint for saucy ribs..
In Short
Inside, there are just two tables (and the chairs at one of them seem to be 90 percent duct tape), since most folks just get takeout. The menu is short and sweet: large and meaty racks of ribs, slathered with Scott's spicy, vinegary sauce, in mild, medium or hot. You can also order a half- or quarter-rack, barbecued chicken or a chicken-and-ribs combo. Bratwurst, steak and pork sandwiches are on the menu, too.
Ribs? I thought it was the bottom of a sneaker!. The other day my work brought me by Scotts. I had seen a high rating on city search for it so I figured I'd stop in (Around 8pm). I ordered a full rack. Took them home and first tasted the sauce. It tasted pretty good. Then I tried a rib. Dry, No Meat, Oven Cooked, and poor quality. I was disappointed but thought maybe it was to late and got a bad rack. I stopped there today at 11:15am figured get them for lunch. Got back to the office. SAME THING! I dont know about you but I feel that "just because you put some BBQ sauce on some meat don't mean its BBQ. For those of you who gave this a thumbs up, next time try Old County Buffet. I'm sure it's right up you alley.
