Worst burger I've ever tasted!. We visited this restaurant because we had a coupon for a free malt. It was a Sunday at lunchtime. The hostess was courteous and we were seated right away. But, our waitress was awful. She had no personality and didn't even say hello. Just stood there with a pad and pen to write our order. We ordered a cheeseburger and fries, a hamburger and fries, and one hamburger kids meal. Plus, our free chocolate malt. The malt was delivered almost immediately and was almost completely melted (perhaps a reject from another table?). While we waited for our other food, my husband plunked a dollar in the juke box and selected some music. Unfortunately, you couldn't hear it at all!

When the food arrived, very quickly to our delight, we dove into the fries. They were fine, but nothing special. The burgers on the other hand were horrible. I truly can say that McDonald's has better burgers. We got up to find the waitress and said we had a problem with the food. She said she would get a manager. A full five minutes later, our waitress wandered over. We were so irritated by this time that my husband just told her we would not be paying for the burgers. They were chewy and dry and full of fillers. We paid for the fries only and left quickly. I do NOT recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a good burger.

Great lunch spot!. I love this place. I don't know how we came across it, but we stop by whenever we are in the area for burgers and malts. Delicious! Great family-owned feel, service is great and the food has always been excellent. Highly recommended!

Great for a cheap dinner and good food. This place has a great variety of malts and they are some of the best malts in town. I think they are comparable if not better than Annie's Parlour in Dinkytown (which also has great malts). I usually order the hamburger and ceasar salad there and it hits the spot if you in the mood for just a good burger that doesn't cost $10. It's feels like a diner style restaurant, good for families. Not good for first dates or a romantic setting. The beef au jus is very tasty there also. The waffle french fries are always a plus too. Overall, a decent place with good service and a meal to please the stomach. Not gourmet, but a very relaxing restaurant atmosphere. Two people could go there and walk out with a bill well under $20. Factor in the quality of the food it is a great value.

A magnet for the young--and the young at heart--who savor thick, scrumptious malts and shakes made the old-fashioned way.. In Short
This is a cozy, charming throwback to a bygone era, featuring stained-glass windows and dark-wood decor with high wooden booths and Formica-topped tables. Young couples and kids come in for standard diner fare, but ice cream drinks are where the Malt Shop really shines. Malts and shakes are served in enormous metal cups and come in more than 30 flavors. Seasonal flavors include pumpkin, pecan, peanut butter or apple cider.

My in-laws favorite Minneapolis restaurant. When my in-laws come in from LA, this is the first stop after the Grandson. Good food, good malts, good veggie options, not expensive.

What a disappointment!. After 30 years, a friend and I decided that it was time to renew our accquaintance with the place. Boy, were we in for a surprise. Burgers were not cooked to order, were terribly dry and the buns are too big. I ended up taking half home to the dog, who's not particular about how his burgers are done. Pineapple shake had no taste nor evidence of pineapple in it.
