Editorial Review for Prima Italian Restaurant – by Sylvia Paine

In Short
The sponged walls and floor painted to look like stone, and Picasso-esque fakes create the pleasant illusion that you have left Minneapolis and landed in Milan. About a third of Prima's seats are counter-style, so tables are at a premium. Menu highlights include spaghetti vongole (with fresh clams, garlic and white wine); primavera, rich in chopped vegetables; rotini with chunks of roasted chicken; and agnolott--pasta pillows filled with goat cheese-red pepper puree in garlic butter.

Insider Tips

What to Drink

The handful of wines listed on the main menu are good enough, especially at around $5 a glass. The Proprietor's Wine List has about 10 pricier vintages.

The Extras

Three pastas plus a panini sandwich are strictly vegetarian.

An amazing find. Prima is not loud or trendy, it is simply good. The butternut squash ravioli with pear and pine nuts is pitch perfect. The caprese had amazing mozarella. Our waitress was friendly, accomodating and quick with sating our appetite for still more bread! The wine list is great, by my estimation. This is the restaurant where you go to unwind, have amazing food and wear pretty much whatever you want. Can't wait to return and try something else.

Whether you are heading there for lunch in the middle of the week or spending your anniversary there, it is fantastic. I have trouble getting anything but the pasta with clams in wine sauce because it is just that good! Great staff, warm atmosphere.

Pros: Great food in an unexpected location

Cons: often busy...but that's to be expected anywhere
