I would not recommend ordering a wedding dress from Mary Kay, because it was very difficult and stressful for me to get my dress from them. To their credit, I did have a great in-store experience. They do have a lot of beautiful dresses in stock, and the salesperson who assisted me was very helpful. I ordered my dress on Feb. 9th and was told that it would be in by the end of July (my wedding was on October 12th). In March, I received a letter saying that they had merged with Wedding Chapel Brides and were moving to a new location, but that my dress order would not be impacted by the merger.
By August 1st, I had not heard anything from Mary Kay, so I called to ask about the status of my dress. They told me that my dress was delayed two weeks. On August 12th, I called again. Anne (the manager) returned the call saying that she had just got off the phone with Moonlight Bridal (the manufacturer), and that the dress would be in the following week, the week of August 19-23rd.
We did not hear anything the next week, so we called again on August 21st, and was told that Anne would call us back. After playing phone tag, we finally got Mary Kay on the phone. She assured us that the dress had already shipped from California and would arrive within five business days. She said it was shipping via UPS but would not give us the tracking number.
So we waited again. By the end of the following week, August 30th, there was still no dress. We waited a few more days to give them the benefit of the doubt that they had actually shipped the dress like they said (since it was a long holiday weekend). On September 5th, we showed up at the new bridal salon location in Crystal. Mary Kay was at the desk, and we explained how frustrated and upset we were that they told us the dress had shipped, when in actuality it had not. We asked for our deposit back, which she said she would not give to us because it was nonrefundable. After we made a scene in front of the other brides in the salon, she assured us that she had already overnighted the dress from California and it would be there the next day. She gave me a UPS tracking number and said to call back the next day.
Well, about an hour later she called me to say that was not the "correct" tracking number and gave me a different one. Sure enough, that number was a real tracking number (and the first one she gave me clearly was not, since she did not rush ship the dress until after I came to the salon). But, the dress did arrive the next day.
When I got to the bridal salon to pick up the dress on September 7th, Mary Kay said that I should be grateful that they covered the $100 rush shipping fee, and that I should write them a good online review since they were so nice about that. Well, I feel bad for all of the brides that had dresses in my same order who didn't complain as loudly as I did, because who knows when they actually got their dresses. Luckily, I found a wonderful tailor who was able to do rush alterations for me so that I could have the dress in my hands two weeks before the wedding on October 12th. This tailor told me that she used to work for Mary Kay, and that she was chronically late in paying her vendors and regularly gave brides their dresses only days before the wedding.
In the end, I had a beautiful wedding dress that I was very happy with. But I did not appreciate the weeks and weeks of stress I had to endure until I could finally get the dress. I don't normally write online reviews, but I really want to help other brides avoid this terrible experience. If you want to buy a dress from Mary Kay, Wedding Chapel Brides, or the Bridal Store, I recommend that you buy off the rack.
This is hands down the best bridal shop. The customer service is amazing, the selection is outstanding and the staff is energetic. I found my dream dress at Mary Kay's Bridal and they really have made the shopping experience amazing. I highly encourage people to stop by there. From the dress shopping to the alterations they really made me feel like a princess. I give them 5 out of 5 stars!
Dont go there – I found my dress at Mary Kay in June of last year almost a year ago and they said the dress would be in around Nov/Early December. I figured this would be fine because my wedding was not until the end of April. We also rented our tuxes and bought our bridesmaids dresses from there. My dress did not come in until early March (only about 6 weeks before the wedding) which is stress enough by itself because you want to make sure the accessories match and look good. We are having an out of town wedding and requested the tuxes come in as early as possible to leave time for fittings. Well....it is the Wednesday before the wedding the the groom's tux has not come in yet. I feel like there is something they were not telling me about the dress and we are very concerned about the tux fitting properly. For the amount of time and money we spent at this store, you would expect some better customer service. In fact, I don't think they have apologized once for all the waiting and hoping we have been through.
Wonderful Store...Wonderful People :) – I have to admit...I was nervous going to Mary Kay Bridal based on some of the reviews I read. However, they had the dress I had fallen in love with online, and I decided to give it a go.
I am so thankful that I went to Mary Kay Bridal. Right away when I walked into the door, we were greeted by Ashley. She was friendly, helpful, energetic, everything you would expect from the staff. I tried on my first dress (the dress I had fallen in love with), and knew immediately it was the one. Even though we all knew it was the dress, they were very willing to let me try on all the dresses I wanted to get the true "wedding dress shopping" experience. I never felt any pressure to purchase the dress which made it that much easier to say "YES" to the dress.
I had a wonderful day at Mary Kay Bridal. I will be going back the beginning of March to shop for bridesmaids dresses. I am so excited!
Magical Store – I am the bride in the review that Renie09 made and would like to get the facts straight since Renie09 seems to have a lot to say for a person who has never been in Mary Kay’s store. First off I picked the place because it is a warm welcoming atmosphere, and the staff immediately make you feel comfortable; You can shop without an appointment, the staff doesn’t follow you around but makes sure you have someone to help you if you need it, and their knowledge and expertise ease the worries of a bride at a very stressful time.
My mother (MOB) had picked a dress that she wanted in black but to no fault of Mary Kay’s the MANUFACTURER did not make the dress in black. My mom loved the dress so much that she chose to get the floor model at a discounted and fantastic price. Yes she had to have alterations done due to the dress being too small but the price of the alterations was not by any means excessive as Renie09 claims. My mother looked absolutely beautiful, almost as good as me .
The bridesmaids’ dresses did come in quite early because we went in early to have their measurements taken and we would have time to do alterations. Yes, one of my bridesmaids was pregnant so the dress had to be altered more but she did not pay more for alterations then for the dress. The fit wasn’t ideal but the bridesmaid had opted out of a final fitting that Mary Kay had offered and after the wedding was done Mary Kay compensated her for it. As far as my other bridesmaids they all had their alterations done elsewhere so if their dresses needed excessive alterations or were too small as Renie09 stated, that is again a result of the manufacturer not Mary Kay, and as for “musical dresses” two of my bridesmaids did switch dresses after trying them on because they each needed different sizes (these would be two out of five). Five (3 bridesmaids, bride and MOG) of the jackets (capes) were ready and purchased when my bridesmaids were fitted for their dresses and two (2 bridesmaids) had to be made but they were ready way before the day of the wedding. The capes looked wonderful and I have no complaints about them whatsoever.
The only dresses left at Mary Kay’s were the brides, MOB and one bridesmaid and all of these were pressed before we picked them up. Every other dress (including the MOG) had been taken to have alterations done elsewhere so they were on their own to make sure the dresses were pressed (again no fault of Mary Kay’s). My dress was missing a hook at the top of the zipper but my dress was NOT strapless and I didn’t have any problems with it throughout the night.
The groom and I had looked at ordering tuxes through there but were told that same day that the style we wanted was not available through the tuxedo provider at Mary Kay’s (again not Mary Kay’s fault) so we chose to go elsewhere, we were not persuaded to order something else through Mary Kay’s.
Mary Kay’s did call a couple weeks after my wedding to see if any of my bridesmaids were interested in selling their capes back due to a bride making a quick decision that she wanted capes for her wedding, my bridesmaids were not hounded to sell their capes back but merely asked if they wanted to, which two of them were happy to do. It was not because Mary Kay’s did not want to sew the capes but because they did not have enough time to sew them due to the bride’s quick decision to use them, I consider this bride very lucky that Mary Kay’s was willing to go to such great lengths to make her dream come true.
I would recommend Mary Kay’s bridal to any bride and in fact have recommended them to a very close family friend who is getting married next fall, and she recently found her wedding dress at Mary Kay’s.
Mary Kay’s exceeded my expectations as a bridal store. If you are looking for a stress free, hassle free place to find a dress with knowledgeable and professional staff this is definitely the place to go.
Fantastic Shop! What are you talking about Renie09? – This is a looong time and overdue review about this FANTASTIC Wedding Shop!!! We just happened to walk into this small, intimate shop in Richfield. I loved the relaxed atmosphere and how they just let you browse on your own without "hovering" over you. I am
the MOB responding to a review written on 7-8-2010 by Renie09- about a wedding in December 2009! Headed "The worst I have ever seen...." Please, if you are
going to write something, get the FACTS STRAIGHT!! I am embarrassed and LIVID about what was written by the mother of the MOH. What were you thinking?? First, let me say, I LOVED my MOB gown and was complimented several times about the Color & style!! Unfortunately, I could'nt get it in black (NOT- Mary Kay's fault- it was the MANUFACTURERS' fault) I bought the navy blue floor sample at half price!! Yes, it was 1 size too small, their seamstress did a Great job in making it fit me, at a VERY fair price!! Next to the Bride, I felt like I was the SECOND most beautiful woman at the wedding!! The bridesmaids' dresses came in early and FOUR of the five girls took their dresses home to have their own alterations done. Once the dresses left the shop it was up to the four girls to have their dresses altered and PRESSED by the day of the wedding (AGAIN- NOT Mary Kay's fault). The fifth bridesmaid, my daughter-in-law, became pregnant about a month or so AFTER the first fitting & ordering of the dresses. We were ALL well aware of the massive alterations that were going to be made on her gown. They did the best possible with the gown that was worn by a 7 month Beautiful, pregnant Bridesmaid!! There was a fitting for her a month prior to the wedding and one on Monday, the week of the wedding. There WERE some last minute adjustments to the bust of the gown. We should have come in again, the Friday before the wedding to fit it again, but, WE chose not to. (AGAIN- NOT Mary Kay's fault) We, Mary Kay, myself & daughter-in-law adressed the problems (it did not lay well across her bust) the following Monday after the wedding. Mary Kay felt bad and agreed to compensate us!!!
The Personal Attendant and I picked up our gowns along with some of the capes the morning of the wedding.
When we walked into the shop, we were announced and EVERYONE stopped what they were doing and helped load the 3 gowns and everything into the RV. (the MOG had already picked up her pantsuit 3 months prior to the wedding) ALL of OUR gowns were ready AND PRESSED for us. The Bride's dress was missing a hook & eye at the top of the zipper AND it was NOT strapless (It was no big
deal, she had no problem with it) What was written about this, in the previous review, by a woman who has never stepped foot in Mary Kay's Bridal Shop or dealt with Mary Kay or any of her staff, is a total UNTRUTH!!
We LOVED the capes!!! My daughter, the Bride, & MOG even bought ivory ones for that day. None of us noticed ANYTHING WRONG with the capes & they were sold to us at a lovely bargain!! The shop DID call the following week to buy back a couple of the capes for another Bride that was getting married THAT week. Mary Kay's only had time to sew a couple new capes for her. Two of our girls were HAPPY to "sell back" their capes!
As for the tuxes, both the Bride & Groom chose to go somewhere else because they were told, right away that they could'nt get the longer jackets from the supplier to Mary Kay's that they wanted. (Also NOT- Mary Kay's fault AND not a big deal!)
Two weeks after we stepped into that bridal shop, we returned to buy the dress that my daughter had found that first day, as well as my MOB gown & MOG pantsuit. We were wonderfully accommodated by Mary Kay and her staff. I remember my daughter walking out of that shop and saying "I think this place is magical!!" I couldn't agree more! New Brides-to- be~ definitely check out Mary Kay's NEW location in St. Louis Park! I believe it could be "magical" for you too!!!
Very accomidating and understanding – i started looking at dresses in march for my august wedding we knew it was a short notice so we wanted to find something and alter it. I walked into the shop with my mom and was greeted immediately looked around tried a few dresses on and left i went to davids bridal and was not impressed i wanted to go back to mary kay and let them actually do their job. when we went back Ashley greeted me and helped me with such urgency she wasnt pressing me for anything. I found the dress i wanted and described to her HORRIBLE didnt work for my petite short body she suggested another PERFECTION!!!! it was beautiful well 1 month later i found out i was pregnant omg i was not excited about buying a new dress. They are now currently working with me to make my dress perfect for my big day they have been nothing but wonderful to me and they are bending over backwards for me mary kay is even ensureing she is there so it is perfect!!

I believe this is a matter of expectations. I want other brides and bridal parties to be aware of the extremely poor quality of alterations and attention to details. Some don't care about those items and others do. Mary Kay contracts with the manufactures and so she is held accountable for carrying their products in her shop. If the manufacturer doesn't do a good job it is a reflection on the shop and her decision to stay with that manufacturer. I do have my facts straight but my perception and expectations along with 12 other reviews are just different than yours.
Several bridesmaids ordered dresses bigger than needed. They also ordered capes to go with the dresses. One bridesmaid was pregnant and had to have a panel and corset lace up added to the back. They charged her more than what she paid for the dress (this is a known fact) and the fit was ridiculous and horrible. This was discovered at the wedding when the girls were putting on their dresses. They had shortened the straps on the dress not in the back but in the front (looked tacky) and raised the curve of the bust over her chest. All of the girls had to have extensive alterations to the bust area only because it puckered, stuck out and gapped. They basically had to be ripped apart, have the boning removed and remade. This type of alteration was far beyond the capability of Mary Kay's shop as proven by the one dress that was altered there. One dress was too small and she had even lost weight. When she went to pick up her dress at the store she tried it on in the store and they told her it looked great and that she wouldn't need any alterations. It was so tight you could see her belly button and the bust had a ill fitted design to it. The sample dress that was originally tried didn't have the bust problem. She complained that the dress should have been big if anything and not too small. It appeared the dress had already been altered as there was no fabric to let out the seams or the manufacturer doesn't allow any room for alterations. The bridesmaids ended up doing musical dresses with trying each others on to get the closest fit possible. The capes were not ready until the day of the wedding even though the girls asked for them when they picked up their dresses and the construction was poor at best. The seams rolled and they did not lay well. None of the dresses had been pressed and still had all of the fold lines on them when they were picked up. The brides dress, MOB and MOG dresses were picked up on the day of the wedding (this is what they wanted) and brought to the church along with the capes. They were not well pressed either. We only had a steamer and did our best. The brides dress was missing the top hook on a strapless dress that she had straps added to. PLEASE save your self the headache, heartache and disappointment and go somewhere else.
Owner and Employess mix up – Found and loved my dress that I found in the shop. The employess were nice and helped but the owner was very werid. I came in one day to try on the dress and talked with the talior and loved her opions amd options on what we were going to do witht the dress, but couldn't remember her name when I returned. The next day I was explaining the sales lady what the taloir looked like bc their was 3 taliors. The owner comes over and starts to talk to me and tells me that she remembered me and that we agreeed on something else. I told her no and that I never met her. She cont to push me tell me what I agreed on with the talior was not right.
Then when paying for the dress the sales lady told me that if I come back with my brides maids that they all get 10% off. I brought my ladies back and the dresses were WAY to expensive. Then the owner again comes to help us and tells me like she was giving me a deal "we normally give 10% off with 4 brides maids or more but we can apply the disscount to your party(bc i had 3)". I told her, I was told to bring my brides maids in and never was told how many would it apply too. Then told her off again and we left to davids bridal and spent 3/4th of what we would have at Mary Kay. And love my maids dresses.
Wedding is in July and not looking forward to going back and working with the shop again in my alterations. Hope that she is gone for the day.
Not impressed – I have to say I'm not impressed! I am a bridesmaid to a friend who picked out a dress and told all of us to go get fitted - I got fitted and Bes, the girl who measured me said "If you're dress should have to get altered, it will be $30-40". Ok I can handle that. So when my dress came in and my alterations included taking in the breasts and hemming the dress, the cost was $96! Totally threw me off.
And the ladies that work there were really fake, telling me how wonderful I looked in the dress even though it looked like a potato sack! I knew right then they were a bunch of flakes. I won't ever go back. Lack of telling customers of money details causes stress and the last thing that people in weddings need is stress.
