Tips for Tgi Friday's

August 08, 2008

Every night is the weekend at this bistro, where families enjoy American kitsch and cuisine alongside partying singles.. In Short
The much-copied look of hardwood floors, decorative stained glass, checked tablecloths, brass rails and walls filled with knickknacks has been a staple at this restaurant franchise. Originally a hit for its frisky bar scene, Friday's is now known just as much for its kid-friendly entrees. The menu alternates between typical American fare (salads, potato skins, Angus burgers and grilled chicken) and modestly international cuisine like fajitas, wraps and pot stickers.

Avoid if you want dining pleasure. We were greeted immediately and sat down before we knew it. Our waiter graced our table the second we sat down and announced he was in the best of spirits and getting better every second. But his service went down hill from there. He talked way too fast rambling off the soup specials of the day and such. Next he was too much of a pressure salesman, so much that he even admitted they really force you to be that way. I ordered one of their new small plates, the food was good, but the special sauce appeared missing. He said it soaked into the meat but he could bring more. Just as I was thinking it appeared rather small he told me not to expect that same portion the next time because they made a mistake and gave me the larger portion. Really? Why don't they have coffee decanters to carry around for refills, or at least leave a coffee decanter on the table? The coffee drinker in me will not come back to a resturant that waits until the last drop is gone before they bring a fresh mug of coffee, after a long wait. In the end even though he said take your time before paying, you knew he didn't mean it by the speed of his forcing dessert and if not here's your bill. My last piece of advice, and I was a waitress myself, once you take your payment and know the bill is covered, please wait until your party has left or is leaving before you take your tip. Don't be pushy, your patrons are out to enjoy themselves for a nice meal and entertainment.
