In Short
This archipelago of river-valley land parcels functions as an excellent federally managed nature preserve--particularly for waterfowl and migrating birds using the Minnesota River flyway. The bright, light modern interpretive center just off I-494 in Bloomington pulls it all together through engaging displays of Minnesota River history, ranging from its pollution perils--and comebacks--to a primer on the glacial forces that created the valley. The programs are led by talented naturalists.

I love going out for hikes in large "parks," I am used to Jay Cooke State park in Carlton, MN. Which is about the same size if not larger, but they have way better walking trails and maps to understand how far you are going and where you are in relation to everything else.
