Delicious!!!. We attended Santorini last weekend. They were very busy but the waitstaff still greeted us with a smile! We had a cocktail and were promptly seated in the dining room. We started with the flaming cheese appetizer, Greek salad, and Avegolemono soup. Very, very good and filling. We ordered the Peasant Platter for our main course and were given so much food that we couldn't possibly eat it all. The food was delicious and I can't wait to go back! I highly recommend this restaurant! Splendid!!!
The most unauthentic Greek food!.
I love Greek food and have been to many Greek restaurants in Twin Cities, but Santorini was definitely a disappointment. First of all, me and my partner were seated right next to the place where all waiters/cleaners were disposing of dirty dishes and leftovers (nothing better than loud clinging and scraping of plates to perk up your appetite). I guess the first glance at the menu should have alarmed me to the impending disaster: the special of the night was Filet Minon with mashed potatoes and Italian Salad. Sounds very greek to me, no? We were brought a basket of bread - white bread, instead of tarditional pita bread. We ordered some wine (please note, that there are 2 red and 2 white Greek wines on the menu of about 30 wines), and had to wait for about 20 minutes before getting it (it was 9.30 pm, and half of the tables were empty, which left me wondering to whihc store our waiter had to run to get the wine). It was not particularly delicious to discover several pieces of ice in my glass of red wine.
Next we ordered appetizers and main dishes. Situation on the food menu was very similar to that on the wine menu - there were a couple of staple Greek dishes, but most of them were a mix of America (burgers) and Italian food (according to our waiter, pasta bar is the most frequently ordered dish in the restaurant - very Greek, no?). I can't complain much about food, although my shrimp with tomato and feta cheese were stone cold and drenched in olive oil (not Greek, btw) and my partner's lamb was overcooked. Next came dessert: we were brought in a plate with desserts whihc had an amazing variety of New York cheesecakes, chocolate cake, apple cobbler and baklava as the only Greek dessert (which ended up being stone cold when we ordered it). even ouzo shot in the end couldn't save it..
Summary: there is nothing Greek about this restaurant, the most Americanized ethnic restaurant I have been to (and freaking expensive). Perkins with a Greek twist and $100 bill!!!
Food and service was great.
While celebrating a big milesone we were greeted by the bartender and were given a free Saginaki! this was a great touch. The bartender was able to attend to our dining needs even though he had many coustomers to serve. The Food was great, it was a polished performance of culinary skill and should not be overlooked when you dine out! I liked this place better than all others in the area.
I had the Steak degreco (I'm sure I misspelled that!) it was fantastic the prices are high but worth it.
best greek in the burbs. santorinis is always great... get the sakangi (opa!), some great lamb chops, and a shot of ouzo on the way out. say hi to Tony, and shake his hand, he always has something nice to say. also get the pasta bar! just great!
Great food. Last evening my wife and I had dinner at Santorini's, I had to see for myself just how bad the service had recently been, we have been dining here for years and before this we were huge fans of Nicklow's. But never once has the sevice or management been nothing but outstanding, as was the case last night. To top off the great service the food was wonderful. The Lamb chops were on special and they along with the entire plate was very good. Drinks were refilled, our waitress striked up fun conversation, the food had such great flavor that no additional salt, pepper, seasonings or sauces were required. The booths are a little tight but O-Well. I think maybe some people cannot be pleased or just have really bad luck. We will continue to frequent this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone. And don't forget to order the Saganaki for and appetizer - they do it perfect!
I'll never go back. I've been to Santorini's a couple times and have never been impressed with the food. The service is poor, but does not compete with the awful management. I guess if you are related to the owner you don?t really have to try to manage this place at all. They think management walking around the bar with free shots is good service. I had my purse stolen while I was there one evening. I was in the bar, which was empty, next to the kitchen. When I told management what happened they just looked at me, then walked away!! I kept coming back and they wouldn?t talk to me. Finally they offered me a pencil to write down a phone number for a locksmith.
A Mixed Bag.
My wife and I frequent many restaurants in the Western half of MSP. We return to Santorini's from time to time, despite the very valid complaints that service is from average to poor depending on... well... luck, I guess. We have had experiences where the service was acceptable, the seating was decent and that was sufficient given the food. We have had times when we really thought the waitperson should seriously consider a different profession.
The dinner menu is relatively good Greek faire. The prices are a bit high for MSP, but out-of-towners from the big cities will find them very reasonable. The Sunday brunch is spectacular food, though again, a bit pricey for the market. The restaurant simply needs to be remodeled. There are some nice booths, but the rest of the restaurant looks old and not consistent with the prices.
If you go to places like Red Lobster for non-special events and you feel like Greek, Santorini's is a good choice. The brunch is what we recommend. However, if its an anniversary or a first date, try Ichiban or Manny's or Ruth's Criss. Santorini's is just not going to give you that special memory.
Management is Horrible!!. I would definitely NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone! The management here is horrible! I called a week in advance before mother's day to reserve a table and the woman I spoke to said they were booked and to call that morning to see if their patio would be open and they could seat us then and she took my name down. That morning of Mother's day i called and spoke to the extremely rude manager, he cut me off when i started to ask if the patio would be open and put me on hold and when he FINALLY came back on i asked him and he said they didn't know yet and didn't offer to get my name or anything and was very short with me. The visit before , the service was horrible and noone there is overally friendly. They need to step up their customer service big time...not impressed!!
Bring your appetite!. My coworkers and I stopped in for lunch yesterday. To my surprise, the place was fairly busy. We were seated right away and decided to order from the pasta bar. (Its like ordering mongolian bbq but greek style) There were varieties of meats, seafoods, veggies, pastas and sauces to choose from. I had a seafood and artichoke pasta blend with white sauce. (you also get salad and bread) The portions were huge (could have been shared w/another person) and the prices were VERY affordable! All in all, the pasta was good enough for me to go back and order take out. The restaraunt wasn't exactly my style... it was old fashioned, fixures seemed outdated and the bar/dance looked like it was homemade, literally.
Don't Bother. We have visited Santorini?s several times in the past. We?ve had some rough experiences at this restaurant, but we wanted to give it another try. We will NEVER go back. The food was cold and the service was mediocre. More importantly the management was horrible. We had an issue with a gift card that was expired and the owner would not honor it. It had been expired only be a few weeks. We were accused of not leaving a tip (which we did). He told us that he didn?t need our business. I?ve lived in NYC, LA, and Chicago. I travel each week for business and frequent restaurants all over the world. I?ve never had an experience like this. I could NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. Minneapolis has too many GREAT restaurants. In my opinion don?t bother with this one.
