We took 2 rifles and a shotgun here to see what they could do with them since they had been subjected to a basement flood and had became quite rusty. They said that the guns would have to go to their custom gunsmith at another location since the work they needed was not something they could do in their store. I really wanted to have the guns repaired if at all possible because they were given to me by my dad before he died. A week later, $200 paid, I got the guns back. They look better than they did before the flood. Simply amazing, thanks!!
You would never expect it from an independent 1-location gun store, but their prices on new guns really are considerably lower than the big sporting goods chain stores. And their staff is made up of older veterans of the gun business, not young college-aged kids. Sometimes bigger is not always better, and the Frontiersman Gun Store is certainly a good example of that.
After trying another gun store and two pawn shops, I thought I'd try this place to see what they would give me for my late father's old guns. Here I learned the pawn shops were certainly trying to rip me off. The other gun store had offered me only a little bit more than the pawn shops did and it took them about an hour to look up the guns to find out what they were and how much they were worth. Herb at Frontiersman was familiar with each of the guns and was quick with an offer. I accepted his offer and left there with cash in hand.
Great Gun Shop. Great gun shop. These guys have a HUGE selection. I've been in there a number of times and have purchased several firearms over time. Personally I never sensed even a hint of racism and I'm African-American. I've always been treated with respect and dignity. There's no skinny blonde guy who works there either, I wonder what that's all about? I know all their staff including the owner since I'm a "regular" customer.

...but the older longhaired guy, Marv Platt, who manages the shop certainly is He's been known to make jokes about going 'Can shooting -- Africans, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans - and he like a lot of the gun crowd believes everything FOX News and Rush "why don't you take the bone out of your nose" Limbaugh says.
I'd post some of his Facebook rants here but Citysearch doesn't allow URLs to be posted.
Excellent gun store. Frontiersman is THE place to buy and sell guns. The guys there really know their stuff. They have a huge selection of new and used guns. I shopped around for price when I was in the market to purchase my brand new Glock pistol and Frontiersman's price was $70 less than the next cheapest local retailer. Seriously!
Best gun shop in the twin cities. They stock more handguns than anyone else and their prices are excellent. I usually trade in my older guns there in order to trade up since they seem to pay the most for used guns. The guys there are literally gun experts, it's obvious they have been doing it for a lot of years. Also it seems they are making a lot of changes there lately. I've heard their new radio ads and they even have a website now. The place always seemed old-school (though in a good way) but it looks like they are now modernizing the place and expanding their offerings. They have a lot more assault rifles than before and they even have full-auto guns. The only thing that could make them better is if they had a range, too bad they don't have the room for one. Their gun and ammo prices are way cheaper than the places with ranges though so maybe it's for the best they don't have one...
Much better than the alternatives. I recently purchased a shotgun here even though there is another gun store that is 20 miles closer to my house. The sales people at the Frontiersman took the time to the answer questions I had which helped me decide on my purchase, As for the couple complaining about being shown the door... guess what? you deserved that. A licensed gun store cannot sit back and let some 'private sale' or even the beginnings of a private sale happen in the store. It could cost them their business.
Great Service!.
Having never walked through the doors of the Frontiersman, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had gone in search of a particular item, and was told they had a good selection, but were a little grumpy...
Stepping through the gated door is a bit intimidating - especially being met with racks upon racks of firearms. I was greeted pleasantly enough about 6ft inside the door by Herb who asked if I was looking for anything in particular. Since I WAS looking for something in particular (although browsing here would be dangerous ONLY for the checkbook), he proceeded to answer my questions and tolerate my slight ineptitude quite well for the next 30 minutes. We had a great conversation the entire time; and their prices weren't much over the Internet (Gunbroker, etc...) -- definitely better than the bigger boys (Cabelas, Gander, etc).
I left with my new purchase thinking "Why the heck haven't I ever come in here before?"
FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE!
Nice Shop. Not Racist, just dont be a dumb A$$. Quick Friendly Service. Will shop there again.
