Great Customer Service.
My son and I frequent the store. Great atmosphere, and great customer service. There was an item that my son wanted to purchase, however I had just been laid off of work, so money was tight.
One of the employees asked his manager if we could make payments - and they actually let us put the item on LAY-AWAY!!!!!!! Brilliant!!! You guys are great, I was able to afford the item for my son!!!
Nice Store, Lousy Customer Service.
I've gone to this store for about two years without issue, always liked how roomy the store layout is, which is very important to me in a comic book shop. About its only issue in those two years is there complete inability to stock major titles that everyone wanted. Still It was my preferred comic shop in the Twin Cities.
Recently however I had an incident where an employee rang me up twice for a purchase. This would usually be no big deal to me, however when I came back to get a refund of my money they told me they had no one in the store who could do refunds and that I would have come back another time to get it taken care of.
Being I live quite a driving distance away I told them this was unacceptable. They called the store manager who said he would be there “in 10 minutes” I said I would wait. After more than 10 minutes of waiting I was told the manager had yet to arrive, I said I would wait. I then waited for well over an hour only to find out the manager arrived shortly after my previous conversation and no one had bothered to tell me. When I was given my refund I told the manager what had happened only to receive an apology. Considering I waited nearly two hours in total to get a refund that should have taken only minutes to get a simple apology seemed somewhat inadequate. I think it will be quite a long time before and if I return to this store.
A Day at The Comics Store.
On the average Summer afternoon, I frequently find myself walking over to Hot Comics to spend an hour or two just looking through comics. The only part that sucks about this image the most if they're not open on Mondays, when I find myself wanting to head over to look at comics the most. The employees are friendly and don't lurk around you every second you spend in the store, well, at least once you prove you know a thing or two about comics. I remember starting my trips to Hot Comics for Magic the Gathering cards, and slowly digging into the comics that slowly drew my attention.
It's my store of choice, especially after Shinders closed, even though most of the staff never felt that Shinders was their rivals, but I did. If you live in the New Hope/Crystal/Plymouth area, this is a good store for a quick comic run.
Hot Comics is the bee's knees!. An exclusive subscription is offered where they pull your favorite comics in advance, almost always assuring you receive a copy before selling out! It is free and you get 10% off supplies! Great comic shop with large selection of comics and toys. They order a wide variety of new comics and TPB's each week, including weird stuff I've never heard of before along with every superhero title in demand. Seemingly never-ending supply of new toys and statues (and random old ones too). Posters galore and a good selection of t-shirts. They seem to have frequent sales as well, like half off back issues and run-packs, great way to fill the gaps in any collection! The entire staff is very friendly and some of them even know what they are talking about;)
Excellent Local Comic Book Shop.
I really like the management at Hot Comics. They will do whatever they need to to help you get a comic book they might not have at the time. This means ordering it for you or finding it at their other store. The place is well laid out and it's a friendly atmosphere each time I go in there. It's like Cheers, everybody who works there knows my name, it's a good feeling to have Comic Book shop that takes such a personal approach to their customers. Well done, you've got my business.
Mediocre Comic Shop. This store has to have the worst stock of any comic book store I've ever been to. Almost 100% of the time popular trade issues are scattershot as to which volumes they'll have (somehow never the ones I need, for months at a time). As for new issues on popular comic books they seem to sell out within hours of opening on wednesday so I never have any chance to be able to get the issues I need. Ordering a trade or issue I need with them is a seemingly endless process in which they never get the issues I ordered in, overall a pretty poor excuse of a comic book shop.
