Bloomington's best kept secret!. I have been to several Green Mills in the twin cities but this one clearly impressed me, although I will say that it is difficult to find. Some friends and I decided to dine there before going over to the local playhouse and we all left very satisfied. The food was absolutely wonderful. I had the walleye, buttered broccoli, and roasted garlic red potatoes. This may be the best walleye anywhere! My friends had the supreme calzone and the desert fire pasta, which is very spicy but very good. If you like shrimp and mushrooms you will love this dish. Portion sizes on all 3 meals were very generous and the prices were reasonable. Our server, Jolene, was exceptional as well. She was very busy but gave us just the right amount of personal attention. The manager stopped by our table as well to see how our meals were. A nice touch that you don't always get from "chain" restaurants. Overall, a great meal and a great time. We will definitely keep coming back to this one!
Local pizza chain continues to bring in droves of families and friends with gourmet pies and pastas..
In Short
From sports fans whooping it up at the bar to kids playing at tables and high booths, Green Mill is a rambunctious scene. The decor is surprisingly nice, given the family-friendly vibe: mahogany wood paneling, decorative glass dividers, brick walls and artsy glass light sconces. Most everyone comes for the pizza, whether it's deep-dish, stuffed or on a cracker-thin seasoned crust. Other dishes include seafood pastas and hot Italian subs.
Not the best Green Mill around.
Went here for lunch and it wasn't too busy. The pasta dish was a bit overpriced and disgusting. Some kind of pesto/sun dried tomato/olive oil mess that had an overwhelmingly strong flavor. My date was happy with his pasta with cream sauce, so at least one of us enjoyed our meal. Also, the waitress took my plate right out from under me, as I was finishing off the last bite, which was very tactless and inconsiderate of her.
Of course, the pizza would've been a better option; I'll go for that next time. I don't recommend their pasta.
Not a good lunch place.
I attempted to go here for lunch with some co-workers. We called ahead and asked about reservations. They said you won't need them. When we arrived, we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated even though the restaurant was nowhere near full. When the pizza did arrive it was underbaked. Top that off with them giving us chilled plates to eat it off of and you have a wonderful example of what NOT TO DO.
The staff was unapologetic for the slowness. Even though we repeatedly let them know we had only an hour for lunch, they dawdled when it was time to bring the tab. It's not as if we complained, they were just that slow normally I guess.
The food is technically the same as other Green Mills, but only prepared half as well here. If you want Pizza in this area, you should probably try elsewhere
Pleasant Atmosphere. Green Mill is always clean and cheery. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. The food is absolutely fabulous. I always recommend it to my friends.
