Consider Food Quality Before Dining!.
Being new to the area, I was excited to learn than Hong Kong Kitchen was so close to home. That was until I placed an order to go. Intially, I had attempted to place the order, via phone. The communication failed miserably as I was repeatedly misunderstood and equally, I had difficulty in understanding the person answering the phone as well. Not wanting to forego the opportunity, I drove to the restraunt and placed my order in person. After the lady took my order, she simply turned around and went into the kitchen, not returning for a minute, or two. I was left not knowing whether to pay, have a seat and wait, etc? After a decent amount of time, she returned and stated an amount, an amount higher than what I was expecting according to my calculations indicated on the "menu." When I asked why that would be, she offered me a calculator slip with the prices of the food, AND, a 13.9 percent taxation for the food! I attempted to communicate to her that this amount was too high but she seemed to not understand what I was saying. Growing tired of the nonsense, I let it go and figured this was my time to have a seat.
After receiving my bag, with what seemed like very generous portions, I returned home. Once home, I opened the bags and was deeply disappointed by what was inside. I had ordered the Orange Chicken, and "Lomein." I place that in parenthesis because truly, I don't know EXACTLY WHAT meat was in there? I can not identify it by taste, color or shape! Little matter though, there were about four pieces total. The lomein was extremely dry and resembled more of an angel hair pasta than lomein. As far as the Orange Chicken is concerned, the chicken (breaded for easier concealment!) was nothing more than a few 1/4 strips of chicken that had been doubled over (to appear larger) that was then breaded. The meat was almost too tough to chew. The only thing of a positive nature I can lend to this experience is that the sauce used on the orange chicken was excellent. In NO WAY would I ever recommend anyone eat at Hong Kong Kitchen!
Below par for the area. I am somewhat new to the area and have been trying out the many Chinese that are around. The couple people who ate with me agreed that this place is below par for the area. Decent food but I probably will not be a return customer.
Awesome food!. I have been eating at HKK since I was 10 years old. They have the BEST pork fried rice I have ever eaten. Karen knows my voice when I call in my order. It is so good in fact, that I travel all the way from St Francis down to Fridley just to enjoy my favorite Chinese food!!
Genuine Service and Great Food. I have been eating at the Hong Kong Kitchen since I was a little boy. In all my travels around the world I have yet to find comparable chicken fried rice. The service is wonderful. It's truly genuine. Even today, after many years of being away, when I walk in the door, the manager remembers me.
