Worst HVAC experience ever.
Moved into a new home and purchased a thermostat that would not only control the heat and AC, but also the humidifier and ventilator. A thermostat install is simple and straight forward and I have done this a few times, but with the added equipment, I thought I would hire it out.
I called Southside Heating and Air and everything went smooth to start. They said they could come out same day which was great and they arrived when they said they would. The technician was obviously intimidated by the unit and advised he had not installed a similar unit in 9 years. That made me a bit nervous, but I still thought he could handle it.
After about an hour in the basement the technician came back up and said everything was good to go, and he would let me play with the unit in the evening and to call back if there were any problems. So he left and i went through the setup on the thermostat. The first thing I noticed was that it was not recognizing the humidifier or the ventilator. I was not too concerned yet as I thought this may be a setting I have to enable in the thermostat so I just finished the setup. Next thing I tried was turning on the AC...nothing. I try to turn on the heat, same thing...nothing. A little dismayed, I just turn on the fan, surely that will work. Nope.
I head downstairs to the basement and take a look at the module. First thing I notice was that he had not even wired the ventilator or the humidifier. Wow...impressive. Next thing I check out is the relays for the heat/ac/fan. He had completely wired all of these wrong. The heat and fan had been wired to the power and the AC was not even wired to anywhere.
I call up and speak with someone else at the office. She was extremely rude and kept trying to come up with excuses as to why it was not the installers fault. Bottom line, he completely failed at installing a thermostat. If I can not trust Southside heating and air with such a simple task, there is no way I would use them for anything else.
Southside did send a technician out to install the Honeywell IAQ Wireless Prestige thermostat. After the initial installation he determined that a terminal was defective on the control board requiring a new board. Returning with a warranty board we wired in the humidifier but not the Venmar Air Exchanger due to the wiring issue with the air exchanger. Lacking an owner's manual we researched the unit online and were unwilling to wire a 7 wire air exchanger into a two wire terminal on the control board. We advised the homeowner of this and he stated he was willing to do that work himself. We also advised him that the humidifier control would require an outdoor temperature sensor. He informed us he had the wireless sensor that he would install himself. When we left we tested heat, cool, and fan with all working as they should be. Southside did all of this at no additional charge on a piece of equipment we did not sell to earn the satisfaction of a homeowner.
Good job!. Southside has been consistently good to my family and myself. I began to use them because my brother used them and was always satisfied. They have always come through for me when I am in need of anything when it comes to my AC unit.
Southside strives to be consistent in out service. We know that generally our customers are not happy when they do call us with either a cooling or heating problem, we do our best to alleviate their concerns with quality service from start to finish.
