Editorial Review for La Fougasse – by Donna Tabbert Long
In Short
The curving dining room features funky lamps, mosaic tile, harlequin-checked banquettes, see-through fireplaces and bright Provencal-inspired colors. A sophisticated older crowd is well-dressed, well-mannered and well-off. The French menu, like the decor, doesn't take itself too seriously. Meals commence with two warm, pretzel-like loaves of "fougasse." Flavor-packed and simply satisfying entrees like pastry-wrapped roasted lamb sauced with black-olive tapenade, or seared potato-crusted tuna medallions, arrive artistically arranged on geometric-shaped platters.

I have eaten here 3 times and everytime was wonderful. The service is almost as good as the top restaurants in town. The food is comparable to the top restaurants as well. I have always had one of the fish entrees and they always cook it perfect for the particular type of fish. The wine by the glass selection is good, some nice French and Cali selections. The kitchen is open to the restaurant as are several fireplaces which make the atmosphere fantastic. Romantic diner to a nice business meal. I brought some of my foodie friends from Singapore here for a business meeting and they love it so much they went back the next night. These guys have been to all the top ones here, 112, 20/21, la belle vie, etc. and I believe they talked about this restaurant more afterwords they any others. Will be going back a few times every year. As a foodie I was surprised more people don't talk about this restaurant. It is in my top 15.
Pros: They do everything right
Cons: They aren't closer to my house

Went for a birthday a few months ago. It's a great looking place inside and the staff is great. However, the menu selection is pretty small and didn't find any exciting items I wanted to try. They also don't have a drinks menu or a signature drink but will make most things you request. The fruit cake is awesome!
Pros: atmosphere
Cons: menu items
