Editorial Review for Jewel of India – by Jennifer Blaise
In Short
The decor consists of a few exotic-looking wall hangings and chandeliers. A lengthy menu offers dozens of curry dishes, along with several tandoori specialties. A lamb special is smoky and spicy from being broiled in the clay oven. The delicately spiced tikka masala, rich and studded with tender chunks of chicken, is easily wrapped in rounds of fluffy naan bread or tandoori roti. The popular ras malai dessert features cheese dumplings in milk and rosewater.

I saw that Jewel of India has Sri Lankan food, so I decided to go try it out. I have never felt so mislead. The website said that they have "the freshest, most flavorful Indian & Sri Lankan food in the city" but the food was not fresh AT ALL and they didn't even have any Sri Lankan dishes. Where are the hoppers and the cutlets? Since they didn't have wait they advertised I tried some of the Indian food, and I've definitely had better. Sambol, over in Eagan, has authentic and really good North and South Indian food and ACTUALLY has Sri Lankan. I plan on going there next time I need real authentic Indian and Sri Lankan food.
Cons: Quality of food, they don't have Sri Lankan like they advertise

The food was delicious. The garlic bread was perfect. The Tandoori Chicken was a bit different than I've previously had, but it had a good flavor. My husband had the Jewel Lamb. The sauce was savory. We had khee samosas and chicken pakora for appetizers and the green chutney (I asked for the name, but I have forgotten what the name of it is) was wonderfully flavorful. The restaurant was pretty sparse in flamboyance, but it was a cozy little place for couples, my husband and I and one other couple were dining at the time. Their were several people who had come in to order take-out and appeared to be frequent customers. I love this unpretentious little jewel of New Delhi. The staff were ever-gracious to my husband and I , even when my husband spilled sauce all over the tablecloth. :) The prices are very reasonable and even better with a Happenings coupon. For dessert, I chose a mango lassi, which was perfect. This had been my husband's first time trying Indian food, and he loved it. We will be planning a big family dine including our extended family members, soon. I give this restaurant 4 stars! :)
Pros: free parking in the back of the restaurant, good prices, good food, good service.
