Tips for Seven Sushi Ultralounge and Skybar

sushi and steak. My husband and I decided to go there for our anniversary. We had high expectations for the environment, clientele and food.

It was all ok/good but not exceptional or high-end.

They put us in seating that was not comfortable. We would have preferred regular chairs. We got the lounge couch and table with a view of the bus stop.

The service was very good. The clientele was curious.

The food was good but not worth what we paid for it.

With a bottle of wine, our dinner cost $200. It wasn't a $200 dinner.

We also told them it was our anniversary. We received some 'congrats' but nothing else : (

I think the bar up on the patio is cool, but I wouldn't select this restaurant for anything special.

It's OK. I ended up at this place for a friend's friend's birthday. They have valet parking so we just drove up and then went in. Upon entering, the place was lively and full of young twenty-somethings. The birthday group had already arrived about 30 minutes before us and were seated already so we asked the host for them. They told us to go upstairs, but when we went up there, another staff directed us back downstairs. The female host looked confused that we were back, but she asked for the name on the reservation again and they finally brought us to the correct table. The waitress was lovely, but just seemed overburdened with handling so many customers. She got us our drinks quickly, but the food took forever to arrive, not her fault obviously. I ordered Unagi rolls, which were OK, not the best I've ever eaten for Japanese food, but I don't think I would order rolls there again. The food the other people ordered at the table seemed pretty delicious, someone ordered steak and another person ordered a amazing crab meal(the presentation for the crab was nice!) We asked the waitress to bill us individually and she was nice about it and did it for us. There was some confusion about the valet ticket as we got up, but the waitress sorted it out and it turned out alright. We then headed to the rooftop to drink some more and dance. The rooftop was OK and the second floor lounge was OK too, an orange/yellow themed scheme. The crowd was OK, if you are into the yuppie crowd. Noticeably though, no one male or female, were wearing jeans, so that was an unusual but nice thing. People putting effort to dress up to go out is a good thing in my book. Overall, perhaps my two star rating is harsh, but I have lived in and traveled to cities all across the States and in the world and have had really amazing experiences at cafes/restaurants/pubs...so it can't be helped, it does take extra to impress me. Personally I like my food ordered and served promptly, so I probably wouldn't go back there again for Japanese food. Plenty of other good places for Japanese cuisine in Minneapolis.

Best spot on a friday night. This is a really fun place to go on a friday night when you have nothing to do. There is no cover, free drinks for the ladies, and great food. This is also a good place to go in the summer when the have the roof top deck open, but you can also go in the winter time when they have a tent up and the fire pit going. I have been going here for years. The staff are really nice and they have good music for the elite crowd of minneapolis.

Good food, bad service.. Great place, but bad service. I finished my wine before my husband's drink came and then after waiting for our food for forever, his meal came (pasta) and my sushi followed about 20 minutes later. Needless to say, we ate without one another, not exactly an ideal bday dinner.

The "manager" came over and laughed off the long wait, it wasn't until my husband mentioned we had never been there before and were not impressed she offered to pay for my sushi.

Whatever? I will go back for drinks but probably not a good place to go if you want to have a nice dinner.

Convenient sushi. Great atmosphere, fun to sit up and people watch. The food is decent, I wouldn't say it's the best or the most authentic Asian food around but it's not bad either.

Skip the salads and go for the winter or dragon rolls. Wish they had more drink selections though.

I gave them several chances and I'm done with this place. I first went to Seven with my wife for our anniversary. I called and asked to make reservations for the upstairs lounge but was told on the phone that you don't make reservations for the ultralounge, you just show up and if there's availability, they will seat you. Ok, so we made our reservations for the downstairs restaurant. When we finished out meal, we went upstairs to sit in the lounge and hang out but were stopped and told we needed reservations to sit in there. (Strike 1)

A year later on 3/6/10, we got a group of 9 people together to celebrate 3 of us who had kids this last year. For some of them, it was their first time out since having kids. We splurged on a limo and I made RESERVATIONS for the UPSTAIRS portion of Seven so we could hang out and all have sushi. This time the reservations seemed to go just fine. I confirmed it several times because of what happened with my first experience. The lady recited; "9 people coming by limo for special occasion for the upstairs lounge."

The night comes - the limo drops us all off at the restaurant. When we get upstairs, we are told we didn't have reservations. After checking again, they found reservations for the downstairs restaurant and said they had no room upstairs. (STRIKE 2) I'm mad, but there's nothing I can do, and they sure didn't make any attempt to apologize or rectify anything. We all went downstairs and decided just to sit there, eat some sushi and then go somewhere else. NOW we're being told that they are "low on sushi and it will be at least an hour if we order some." (STRIKE 3) - you lost my business for good! You're a STEAK AND SUSHI RESTAURANT! We ended up walking (through the rain I might add) to Rock Bottom Brewery, and although it isn't as "swanky" as Seven, they earned about 1000 more style points with their customer service and competence.

great food. Went in last week and had an excellent time. I started with lobster bisque and it was amazing. Went on to try the new butternut squash pasta and it too was great. The server was very nice and the manager came by our table as well to make sure we were happy. Overall great experience!

Hottest place for singles. This is a great place to go in downtown Minneapolis. There are always good looking guys/girls there when I go, and the food is to die for. Pricey place but when you go there everything else makes you forget about cost. They have the best sake list that I have found around here too.

Fresh Tasty Sushi. I went to Seven with a group of friends and some were sushi fans and some were not. It worked out great that you can order off both the steak and sushi menu because then everyone was happy. I had a couple different rolls and they actually brought me an extra roll and did not charge me for it. Overall I would recommend if you are willing to spend a bit more to check out Seven! (I had 1 drink, 2 rolls and a salad for under $40).
