The Front gets a Latin-infused cabaret-style makeover..
The Front gets a Latin-infused cabaret-style makeover at this dark and intimate cafe. In what was once a spot for retro dance nights, Bondage-A-Go-Go and hipster goth parties, the Front has transformed its, er, front space into the Front Cafe. Nodding to cabaret style and hidden-Hollywood 1920s glamour, this little spot in Northeast Minneapolis is decked out in mahogany panels, tin ceilings, deep reds, diamond shapes, checkered patterns, an antique chandelier and lights that are like low-hanging stars--so close you almost touch them. Bottles sparkle from behind the bar like jewels, and the dark wooden booths and tables allow for intimate gatherings where diners nosh on Latin-inspired dishes like empanadas, plaintains, quesadillas and mango chicken.
