Northeast Minneapolis isn’t the first place you’d find an original fish and chips joint. After all, it is flyover country. And it is, well, not in the UK. But this laid-back but still lively restaurant is the real deal. Hardwood floors, red walls, black and white photos and cream-colored tin ceilings give it a classic Northeast pub vibe while the menu (Everything comes with, what else? Chips!) is cheeky, chipper and all about the fish. As an added bonus, a lot of the ingredients are locally sourced, which fits right in with the restaurant’s neighborhood-focused vibe.

Could be great, but was only good

Didn't live up to the hype. Love seeing new restaurants pop-up, especially with a specialty or unique point of view, but this one needs work. Staff was friendly, great ambiance, cool vibe.

The Anchor could be really amazing but I thought the food was so so. I know, I know, it's Fish and Chips and it's not a five star dining experience. The fish itself was ok, but nothing special. The chips were so greasy it brought the whole meal down. You're better of getting Fish and Chips almost anywhere else in town. If you're going to do one thing, do it well or don't do it.

I also tried my friend's burger and again, mediocre-city on this as well. Hope you work it out Anchor, we need you in this city....I'll try you again in a few months to see if you've progressed

  • Pros: Cool space, great vibe
  • Cons: Lackluster food

The Details on The Anchor Fish & Chips

The Extras:

Not only can you steal a deal late nights (and get some great beer and wine, too), but Anchor offers up a full Irish breakfast on Saturday and Sundays that includes eggs, beans, bangers, pudding and more.

What to Order:

It doesn't matter how pleasing the locally sourced grass-fed burger sounds. If this is your first visit, the real-deal fish and chips (featuring delicious Alaskan cod) are not to be passed up.
