Great food - a hidden gem.
We have had several great meals here. The food always has flavor, and if you want it hot it will come HOT! The curries and fried rices are great, as is the pad thai. We keep going back because the food is so amazing.
The owner's mother was brought to the US by Sawatdee to cook REAL Thai food, and that is what she continues to do. A trained Thai chef, trained in Thailand, her food is authentic and truly fabulous.
The service is slow. No one is ever in a hurry. It's a nice way to slow down and enjoy life for a leisurely dinner. If you're in a hurry, they also offer take out.
Great food, Horrific Service!.
A friend and I recently visited this restaurant in Golden Valley after reading some good reviews and securing a Groupon.
We are both busy professional women who were looking for a relaxing evening. What we experienced was quite different. We were greeted by a women who ignored us as we stood there waiting to be seated. She shuffled papers as we stood there until we took it upon ourselves to find a seat. We then waited for 20 minutes for her to come to our table with menus. She actually tossed them on the table and walked away! To say that we were bewildered and frustrated is an understatement especially since there were only 4 other people in the restaurant.
The evening progressed in the same rude manner in which it began. At the end of meal we presented payment for the bill which was met with the following comment from the waitress ?thanks nothing for ten percent?. Ten percent was a generous gift considering-nothing would of been more appropriate.
We are distressed, confused and frustrated by this experience to say the least. I would think that any restaurant in this day and economic age, would remember that customer service can go a long way towards customer generation and loyalty. Not to mention that it is free. Our dollars and free time are hard earned. I can say that we will not frequent this establishment again and when we are asked to recommend a good restaurant, we will not be recommending Nong?s. This is unfortunate as the food was excellent!
