A friendly place with a warm atmosphere. Not overly noisy like many restaurants today. I like the food -- has more of a southwestern flavor. My favorite is the chili relleno. Good chips and hot sauce with a kick. The margaritas are fantastic!
Had a grrrreat dinner tonight at La Fonda! The Top Shelf margaritas were the best! Thanks for great service and food! This will always be a stop on our list when we visit the area!
We had dinner here with our good friends. This restaurant has been around since 1976 & I know why. Good drinks, good food at an appropriate price & good wait service. Our waiter, Oscar was wonderful..was fun, but not 'gushy'. Didn't bug us, but was there when we needed him. He saw my husband reading a birthday card (his birthday was the next day) and at the end of our meal, he brought him (& us) one Mexican Fried Ice Cream with four spoons...delicious! Our dinners were very good and priced right. Food was fresh and tastie. The Margarita's are best!! Be sure to visit the next time you're in the cities.
Have been going here since I was a kid! If you want some deliciously greasy cheesy Americanized Mexican food la Fonda's is the place. It's me and my wife's guilty pleasure. We used to go there quite a bit but we moved to the other side of Dakota county and we are just not a near as we were before. It's nothing I would consider fresh or authentic but it's the best tasting cheesy enchiladas I've ever had. The salsa tastes canned but I love it. It is what it is and has been around for a long time, and of you grew up in Dakota county I bet you've been there once with your family when you were a kid, and I'll bring my kids there one day.
La Fonda has decent food. It reminds me
a lot of Chula Vista in West St. Paul, which is nostalgic for me (my family would go there for birthdays when I was a kid). I went there with a person I PCA for; it's his absolute favorite restaurant. The staff working that recognized all made it a point to say hello to him, and he was over the moon about the free birthday dessert!
We had an attentive waiter, the food came out extremely fast, and the atmosphere is kitschy but in a quaint way. It's definitely clean and honestly, the promptness of the staff and food delivery is astonishing compared to other places where you wait for eons for simple orders-definitely not the case here.
I forgot to take my receipts (have to file them for work) and when we stopped back in later that evening they were extremely nice about getting them printed off for us, so that was a bonus!
I have been going to La Fonda since 1987. It was closed for a couple of years and reopened in its current incarnation in 1992. I am spoiled by La Fonda. I cannot eat authentic Mexican food as the Tex-Mex or more specifically New Mexican fare has shaped my palate. I love the Grande combination that includes a taco, a tostada, and a beef burrito covered in either green or red chile. I also love the Burro Special which is a giant bean and beef burrito covered in red chile sauce, melted cheese, and lettuce. If you want authentic Mexican in this town go to Lake Street. Otherwise La Fonda is great for a good meal.
Authentic mexican food. Everything, from the chips and salsa to the huge burrito my husband ordered food was GREAT!!
I really like the lower level bar. Great service, lots of pool tables, buck hunter, beer ball. The best nachos around.
I get the chimichanga and it's wonderful and filling. Margaritas are great. Go there anytime I come to this area.
