Sad. I hate that parasol took away the (Iconic Bistro) and put a fake Italian place in with rotten service!
Horrible bartender and overpriced food.... I went there and it wasn't busy. There were 5 people at the bar mind you. I sat at the bar and was ignored for 20 minutes before walking out. The bartender would look at me and walk away even though I had my id and wallet on the bar. He was busy trying to mack on some uptown wannabe. I was even wearing a suit so I should have fit in with the stuckup atmosphere. Maybe if I had breast implants I could have had a newcastle. Problem is, I'm a guy. Maybe I shouldn't have worn my invisibility cloak that day. My bad. Get over yourselves. Great place to watch humans made of plastic be cool.
Excellent experience for a first visit!. We had never dined at Figlio before and were genuinely impressed. The host(s) were extremely friendly. We were even 20 minutes late due to traffic, but they still got us right to a table. Our waitress, Brittany, was very helpful in explaining the menu, etc. She checked back frequently to see if we needed anything. We even asked to be moved to another table, and she was very accommodating. Had the fried homemade ravioli as an appetizer, which was delicious! For an appetizer, I would say the portion was small. There were 5 ravioli, which was perfect for 2 people, but may not have been enough for a larger group. I ordered the Figlio Chicken Club, which had very good flavor and very filling. The "fries" that come with it were excellent. The Tagliatelle was also a great choice! Overall, a wonderful Valentine's Day dining experience! Thanks, Figlio, and keep up the good work!
Best Caesar Salad Ever. A large group of us went to dinner. We went early for happy hour however there was no standing room and this was at 6:00 on a Sunday evening. However, the happy hour specials are really good and the caesar salad there was the best caesar salad I have ever eaten (and I eat caesar salads at almost every restaurant I go to). It had a little kick to it, no overpowering anchovy flavor, I would go back for just this salad it was so delicious. The meatballs were also really tasty, had a zest, you could eat just the happy hour menu for dinner and feel like you've robbed them. It's delicious food for a very reasonable price.
Unbeatable Happy Hour.
$2 beers and house wines and select appetizers make the Happy Hour at Figlio's unbeatable. The bar can get packed right at 4 pm when Happy Hour starts during the week, so be prepared to stand against the wall if there are no open stools/tables. Try the mini-burgers with fries or mini-pizzas if you want an appetizer that's filling and yet cheaply priced at $2. You also gotta appreciate their 12-7 pm Happy Hours on both Saturday and Sunday making Figlio's a perfect place to stop in after shopping in Uptown.
I agree with other reviewers that the service can be a bit slow, but with a group of friends and the willingness to sit chat and people-watch while you wait for a beer, it's definitely worth it.
food is great, service is iffy.
All right, I've been a fan of Figlio for years. The food is consistently wonderful, but the service is not. We recently dined here later in the evening. If our server had put as much thought into doing her job as she did her halloween costume, we would have been pleased. I also would have enjoyed my pasta more if I had had a drink. She eventually wandered over to our table and blankly asked "how are you doing on drinks?" We hadn't even received them yet (or ice water). We were never offered dessert, or a take away box. And we waited for our check for over 30 minutes.
Also, the music was way too loud, we couldn't hear each other from across the table. If it was decent music, that would be one thing; I don' t know too many folks who would choose to hear the Counting Crows at top volume these days.
It's going to be awhile before we go back, which is too bad. Bad service shouldn't be so hard to come by when the food is so great.
Good food and service.
We walked in at alittle after midnight.
The place was virtually empty.
The service was good the waiter helped to pick out the exact taste in wine I was looking for.
We had an Ahi Tuna starter which was little bland since I'm used to Sushi bars.
The pasta dish I had was really good, but my friends mushroom ravioli left something to be desired.
Over all nice atmosphere good food but a little pricey.
Great food, great location. In the heart of Uptown this place is great for people watching - sit on the sidewalk in the summer. They also have great seasonal menu items like pumpkin ravioli and butternut squash bisque. Great happy hour specials too!
Go for happy hour, stay for dinner :). Best happy hour deals in Uptown, only rivaled to Chino Latino's :) A very extensive dinner menu, lots of unique dishes. There's outdoor seating during warmer seasons. If you don't want to spend a lot of $$$ on dinner, order off the happy hour menu in the bar (huge portions!) It's usually a packed crowd during happy hour, but the staff is so friendly & prompt, you would never know they are busy. The dinner menu has lots of variety... & the food is always exceptional.
Now THIS is the Figlio that I know and LOVE.
I wrote a review of Figlio back in 2002. It was ruthlessly true on all accounts- but NOW- in 2006 I'm here to write a new review, one that drips so heavily with honey that you should well take note. FIGLIO IS BACK! It freakin' ROX!. I'm guessing that the former problems that I had with Figlio had every thing to do with bad management choices. With a new man in charge- Rex- Figlio is it's old, lovable, savvy diner respecting, self again. I don't know Rex's last name but I do know that at one point he was the head chef- and a damn good one. This man loves good food and the menu, that I gave a second chance too, CLEARLY revealed to me Rex's passion for food. BRAVO! I asked the waitstaff about the man and learned that Rex is also a great fisherman. I felt that the menu ALSO reflected this with it's WONDEROUS treatments of Salmon and white, flaky, kick *ss fish. YUM! I LOVE fish and I LOVE the way Figlio cooks it. The Salmon small plate is a must have with me whenever I'm Uptown now.
I can't tell you how happy I am that this trend setting restaurant has returned to it's former glory - Heh- ok maybe 80's neon isn't glorious- but the food really has to keep a boat afloat, not just the location. I think with Rex at the helm there are gonna be some fab food voyages ahead for a lot of people. INCLUDING ME!!!! YEA!!!! I don't care now if I'm sitting at the first table on the sidewalk looking squarely at my Uptown nemesis "Gap" clothing. (GRRRRRRR- SO un-Uptown.) I gotta tell ya the tasty, well priced, eatables crossing my palate were a blissful buffer zone between ME and the mediocrity and conformity of an oft cruel and/or boring world. Sorry for the drama ;) I sh*t you not. I love Figlio again. So get your *ss there!!
For real because Rex obviously respects food- and the savvy of YOU- an experienced diner.
YEA!
I love when quality wins.
