I am a fairly new customer to Pet Central. I recently got a kitty and took her there for her shots. The price was competitive and the staff are very friendly. Dr Nelson took the time to get to know us even though they are very busy.
My cat liked to close open doors, and eventually closed an attic door on her leg. She broke her leg in a couple spots and splintered her bone. After paying an exorbitant amount to the Golden Valley ER vet on a Sunday night ($650 for basically a bandage to keep the bone from sticking back out of the skin) I took her to Pet Central the following morning.
(This is where I will sound like an awful pet owner)
We really felt our options were limited. We are expecting a baby in a few months and we are quite strapped for cash. Dr Nelson explained the price of surgery would be the same as amputation, and had offered the post surgery check ups for free. Our cats leg has healed better than even the Dr expected. Dr Nelson reset the bone so it would heal properly. We didn't think she would be able to straighten her leg normally because of the nature of the break, but she can! She is walking around like normal and we owe it all to their expertise!
This place truly cares about the well-being of all animals. Dr Nelson wanted our cat to feel 100% as much as we did. He took ownership of her health and thanks to him we have a happy healthy kitty again.
I recommend Pet Central to anyone who wants their pets to receive the same care and attention at their clinic as they do at home.
Worst!. I have been bringing my dog here for 4 years and have finally had enough. Dr. Ngo is okay, I suppose, but talks only to your pet and doesn't exactly seem knowledgeable. Dr. Nelson is the worst, extremely rude, and literally walks in the room and doesn't talk to you or address your pet. At a physical exam, he didn't take her temp, look in her ears, or anything! Yet charged me almost 60 dollars. For the price I would at least expect compassion and respect....guess not. Go somewhere else!
NotHappyPetOwner. Well we will no longer be bringing our pets to Pet Central. In the past we've received service that was rather dismissive and insensitive, but today was the last straw. I called about an hour before going in after we thought our puppy had swallowed a pin. I was quoted $158 for the exam and xrays. After getting there, and thankfully finding no pins in our pup, was informed that the bill would be $301. The vet did extra xrays which he did not confirm with me, and told me he was "selling" us more heart worm pills. Frankly, it's bad business practice to quote one price and give a final bill twice as high without consulting your customer. Even after telling the receptionist that she quoted me much lower, she quickly charged up the full amount. Bad service and poor form all around. We will gladly bring our money elsewhere in the future.
tragic. It's been five months since I took my young dog to Pet Central to be spayed. I dropped her off in the morning and planned to pick her up that evening but instead I received a call informing me that she had mysteriously died under anethesia. She died under the care of Dr. Ngo but Dr. Nelson called me....it was identified as a "fluke" but obviously a very painful one that I'll never forget. I would never take my pet to this place again.
Do NOT bring your pet here!!! EVER!!!!!!!!!!!.
I wanted to update my review from a few hours ago...... Is it possible to rate this place a negative number?????Today I called and asked Dr. Nelsons' office to fax a copy of my cat's RX to another vet for insulin (because they no longer carried the brand and said they couldn't do anything else for me) so I called another vet to order the RX. They had the insulin I needed available. Shortly after the request for the RX, Dr. Nelson called me back to tell me he would not send the RX to the new vet unless I took down my review from this site.?!?!?!?!?REALLY??? It sounds like blackmail to me. He also informed me that my posting was incorrect and that I had only spent $1100 on my cat, not $1500 that I had quoted. SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?
Now you know he has no interest in my cat's well-being and is all about the money. Calling me back to say he won't fax the RX until I remove my post?? All he is concerned about is money. I spent over $1100 (quote per Dr. Nelson) for my diabetic cat with all of the testing and follow-up visits.
When they wanted to run more tests and I told them I didn't have any more money and asked if I could make payments, then all of a sudden the tests and monitoring weren't necessary and the cat could be sent home. Then they jacked up the price for all of the medications and when I checked elsewhere, the prices were 1/3 the price of Pet Central. STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!!!
Lacks Compassion. I'll try to give a level-headed review as I realize reactionary reviews are often disregarded. The staff at Pet Central all seemed to be very friendly and personable....except the vet. Dr. Nelson entered the room abruptly, shoving one of my cats with the door. He didn't acknowledge my cats or myself, but went straight to the computer in the corner of the room where he sat ignoring me for a few minutes. While examining my two cats he was very aggressive; no finesse whatsoever. His method of addressing the cats' discomfort from the rectal thermometer was not to comfort them, but to shove their heads into the table while saying, "You're not going anywhere." Overall, Dr. Nelson was very grumpy and showed little to no compassion; I nearly walked out. I'm not one to expect a fake cheery attitude from people; I understand that we all have bad days and don't expect people to mask that for my own comfort. But when taking my animals to a professional DVM, I do expect them to at least handle my animals gently and show them compassion. I left feeling angry and I will not be returning to Pet Central, regardless of living two blocks away.
