Great for a private party
by AARice at Citysearch
We had my Sisters 40th Birthday party here last night and had a great experience!
The service was great, we also had a fun and awesome bartender. The apps were good and the price was fair.
Would use again for a party.
I hate this place
by Ihateogaras at Citysearch
This bar is horrible. I have been there many times over the last couple of years, and each time I am probably more disappointed than the next. First off, the service is the worst of anywhere I've ever experienced. Secondly, the drink prices are outrageous for such small glasses. Thirdly, the Garage entertains the worst music I've ever heard. Don't ever come here. Oh, and last time I was there my friend and I saw a rodent run across the floor.
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: Service, drinks, atmosphere
Live Entertainment
by perfectleigh at Citysearch
Perfect venue for live entertainment, plenty of space seperated from main bar, decent drinks & service.
This St. Paul landmark serves traditional food and hearty libations--and packs in music fans like sardines.

In Short
What was once a humble family-owned pub in 1941 is now a six-roomed family-owned bar, restaurant and nightclub. The crowd is mainly frat boys in baseball caps, fans of roots rock and blues, and folks from St. Paul's Mac-Groveland and Merriam Park neighborhoods. In the Shamrock Room, big bands and small jazz combos play on weeknights and a pianist leads sing-alongs on weekends. In back, the big Garage features alternative rock, Americana, reggae, blues and funk.
Great Service great atmosphere.

Was in on a thursday to grab a couple drinks before going to dinner and we were pleasantly suprised with the service. We sat at the bar and was taken care of by our bartender Justin. We were having such a good time that we decided to have dinner at O'Garas instead of leaving for dinner.
Its a great local bar with lots of history (which is displayed on the walls). People are nice and the atmosphere is perfect. Everything you would want in your favorite bar. We dont live in the area, but we will stop in anytime we are!
- Pros: Service Service Service
Quintessential neighborhood bar
by cubfanbob at Citysearch
It may not be a place "where everybody knows your name", but stop in more than a couple times and I guarantee you'll be recognized and your favorite beverage will be waiting on the bar by the time you sit down. The median age tends to drop to about 23 on Friday and Saturday nights. Other times, it's your basic neighborhood bar - a good thing. Pull up a stool and grab some darts. And by the way - the guy in the parking lot is WARNING you that you'll be towed if you park in the street, as a courtesy. How many places will do THAT?
- Pros: Bartenders, Beer selection, Eclectic clientele
What a dump
by scott_dizog at Citysearch
From the "traffic control" guy in the parking lot telling us he's going to tow our car to the snobbish waitresses and pushy bouncers inside, this place may be the worst bar I've even been to. Even the food was terrible and it took about 10 minutes to get a drink at the bar, even though it wasn't very crowded. I don't normally write reviews, but I felt the need to after visiting this establishment.
- Cons: Lousy service, Lousy employees, Lousy time
comfortable
by battistini at Citysearch
This popular bar shows its age. But the bar food standards were fine and there is a decent selection of beer: I am not sophisticated enough to remark on the quality of its own beers. One advantage is a large customer parking lot. Also, for those who prefer a bar quiet enough that you can speak and be heard, there is no problem here: the performance venue is a separate building with its own cover charge and you will not be disturbed in the main space. I think it is perfectly acceptable and the service was nice, but it is seedy: one of the rooms even smelled musty. By coincidence, all the old people had gathered there, leaving the busier main room to the young!
- Pros: parking, food, beer selection
- Cons: seedy digs
fun on wild nights
by khbundy at Citysearch
Its always fun when the wild are playing. you can take the bus to the game. I mean really. what the hell do you expect. its just a bar and it fun and the food is not bad. They have a variety of beer so I don't know why people are really complaining. This is MN, not Paris for god sakes.
Good Food, Good Beer, little $

I've enjoyed O'Gara's every time I have been there. When I have ordered food I always feel I get good food at a fair price and although I have my favorites, they have a home brew that is sure to please most tastes. The staff is also great and friendly and the atmosphere is sure to make you feel comfortable.
I have also taken friends from out of town there and they have also commented on the good food, beer, and atmosphere. I'm sure it won't be long before I am back.
- Pros: Friendly staff, good value, Good atmosphere
- Cons: ???
