I like this place
by e135 at Citysearch
For about 2 years I have been going to this place on a regular basis. Besides the fact that tastes differ, and not every stylist is for everyone, I can definitely recommend going here. I mostly had appointments with Angela, and I was always satisfied, and many times I was even really happy with the haircut I got (considering my vanity this is hard to achieve). Angela is competent and works very accurately, understands what you want, and above all has very good taste.
- Pros: good ideas for great hairstyles
- Cons: not cheap but worth it
Go see Lacy
by Cleopas at Citysearch
Lacy didn't just cut my hair, she shaped it with precision, ease and an expertise that made me feel like putty in her hands. Her techniques were impressive, thoughtful and deliberate. It felt almost as though her cool razor tool was really a magic wand. Her magic wand. She waved it this way and that, and voila! I had a beautiful haircut. She's a gem. I'm so happy to have found her!
- Pros: Good Listener, innovative cutter, deliberate, great shampoo
- Cons: limited parking
FABULOUS!
by DTL1984 at Citysearch
I went to Moxie (Uptown) recently for the first time ever and absolutely loved it. I chose Micha as my hairstylist because of his recent win for “Best Hair Stylist in 2009”
by City Pages. The location was super easy to find. Parking was a bit tough because they have do not have a parking lot for customers. I drove around a bit (be careful with the One Ways!) and found a spot on a side street.
Micha is the BEST hairstylist I’ve ever had! I usually do the same thing with my hair (grow it out, get same style and then chop it off when I get bored). I went to Micha with no style in mind and told him to do what he thinks would be cute. He gave me the best hair cut/style I’ve never had! I got so many compliments on it. Not only is it cute, it only takes a few minutes to style in the morning. I bought both products that he used,
(with no pressure) AND they only cost $15 total!
I’m so happy to FINALLY find my salon and my hairstylist!
- Pros: HIP, TALENTED, EASY TO FIND, REASONABLE PRICE AND PRODUCTS!
- Cons: NONE
Awesome Awesome Awesome!
by Dharsiz at Citysearch
I was looking for a new salon and I heard about Moxie. I got an appointment with Hazel, who is apparently a junior stylist but my goodness, she did such an incredible job!! She walks you through the entire haircut and no matter how late your appointment is running, she'll take the time to keep asking you what you like. If she uses products she'll create a regimen and periodically show you how to use them. She's absolutely great. It's truly a haircut for you and by you. I've gone back a couple times since my first visit and each one is better. They are super friendly and will help you book an appointment, even call you to remind you about the appointment a couple days before. *****
Great haircuts, nice people...the rest is questionable.

I have been going to Moxie for a while without a single disappointing haircut. The stylists are very good at what they do and make sure you are taken care of.
The salon itself is visually upbeat, but the music generally doesn't match the vibrantly painted walls. The walls are usually (not always) covered with bad art which is about as bold as their attempt to create a hip, funky, upbeat salon. The website is even worse. It is obvious that they didn't hire a web designer because they wanted to save a buck, naively missing the very point of the website--to represent and communicate the Moxie salon on the web.
Talent-wise they are very sharp stylists. The business itself appears confused and unsure of what it wants to be.
- Pros: Fantastic haircuts and stylists.
- Cons: Someone in charge is sleeping
Great experience, great price
by vannamarie at Citysearch
I needed to find a new stylist and found their location, pricing, and website to be exactly what I needed.
I have really thick, fine hair and from their website decided to see Steph. Her skills matched her online profile exactly! From the moment I arrived, I was attended to promptly and with very friendly service.
I asked for Steph's opinion on a few things, to which she gave helpful feedback that yielded great results. Her scalp massage and face wrap really made the experience feel more like a spa experience than just a routine cut and color.
I left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, and like my time and money were well-spent. I will definitely be going back!
- Pros: Helpful staff, great services, reasonably priced
- Cons: None yet!
Great experience
by JENBRA at Citysearch
What I loved about moxie was the positive energy. Everyone working really seemed to care about each other and help each other. They all made me feel so welcome and comfortable from start to finish and I had some of the best conversations I have had in a long time. I came with a friend. Shelley cut and colored my friends hair and did an amazing job-my friend left that place looking 20 years younger and she was so happy with the experience. Hazel cut and colored my hair. She was a wonderful girl, very nice and skilled. I hate getting my hair cut but she made it a great experience by really listening to what i wanted and making me feel at ease. These girls and the other staff had us laughing and having so much fun we were sad to go! thanks so much to all of you who worked on friday morning for the amazing experience. i have no problem driving 4 hours to come see you guys, anytime.
- Pros: hip and fun environment
Go See Shelly!!!
by ZoeyUnderstands at Citysearch
I always cut my own hair and I finally decided the back was getting too choppey and needed it cleaned up, my friend Jen recommended Shelly because she did a really cool funky cut on her and a really cool color and cut on her other friend. I decided to call moXie because I chopped my hair to bits on my own and the problem was that I wanted to keep my length. I was put off a little when I saw her because she looks crazy funky but she nailed my blonde foils and girly hair cut (which is crazy considering what it looked like beforehand.) I love her, I will definately be back!
- Pros: All the stylists were great I got great service and attention
- Cons: parking
the walls and the "experience" have gone grey
by disgruntledclient at Citysearch
moxie used to be my home away from home. it huslted and bustled. the walls were orange. i could drink my weight in free coffee and no one looked down on me. i could have my "soccer mom" do with highlights and read cheap gossip rags and chat up a whole array of bright young fun things while my color cooked.
but its all gone now. the walls, floor, ceilings-EVERYTHING is grey. even the lighting casts an unflattering sallow tone of everyone, like a fitting room at kmart. the stylists tell you to only "whisper" and you're left alone while your color cooks. my last stylist made a face when i explained my "soccer mom flip bubble bob" to her. my last stylist also said " i hope this works" when she put my color on! i thought they did full on training there!
in short, this salon embodies nothing that it did 1 year ago, the regular staff has left and it's like moxie is trying to become some uber snob NYC salon. i'm moving on to another salon....
also, its pretty obvious the salon has been reviewing itself below.
- Pros: none
- Cons: the salon is trying to be something that it's not
Moxie has lost its moxie
by stphairlady at Citysearch
What used to be a fun, exciting, and warm place to go for hair services is now more like a Cost Cutters with a fancy name and new paint job. Most of the talented, long term staff have recently left the salon as have most of the long term clients. What remains is a cold atmosphere with not so skilled hairdressing and bad attitude. I found their attitude to be rude to the point of being offensive. Poor management and a profit first agenda has led to the decline of this place. Beware before you try out this place! On the other hand, don't waste your time.
- Pros: Convenient location
- Cons: Low quality services and bad attitude!
Ashley is the best!
by Srobinson7 at Citysearch
I just went to Moxie for the first time and got my haircut with Ashley. I was looking to do something fun and new with a little "Moxie". She had some great ideas and has given me the best haircut of my life!
- Pros: The "7 minutes of Heaven" was incredible!
- Cons: The hours need to be updates on CitySearch.
