I have enjoyed shooting, and hunting for more than 35 years. I have been a customer of Territorial Gunsmiths for many years. Randy Hengl has ALWAYS treated my family, and myself with complete respect. Randy has never rushed me in a buying decision. His pricing is fair, delivery time is good, and quality of all work I have hired Territorial to perform has been outstanding. His advice isn't always what I want to hear, but it is always honest and technically sound. He has worked with me in donating his time to help teach young shooters about the history of this Country. I will continue to depend on this experts work and advice until the doors of his business close!

Pros: Honest, Great Advice, Outstanding Work, Doesn't Sugar Coat Recommendations

Cons: Doesn't Sugar Coat Recommendations for those who can't handle the truth

I have been a customer of Territorial Gunsmith for over seven years. Randys advice has always been sound and accurate. I was not influenced to buy things or services that were not needed. Several times I was advised NOT to purchase the newest gizmo or gadget because it was not needed and seved no purpose. All work was done in the time frame that was indicated and the prices were accurate. Absolutely zero problems and I continue to use his services and advice.

I have been going to Territorial Gunsmiths for over ten years. I have found Randy Hengl to be honest, conversant about his field and timely in his delivery of services. What struck me most about him and what I tell others is that he will actually try to talk you out of spending money if he doesn't see the benefit. I frankly find that remarkable. I would highly recommend his services.

I have been a customer and friend of Territorial for almost 15 yrs and have always found Randy to be honest and forthright in all his dealings with me and others. Yes Randy has very definite opions on all things related to firearms, while we normally agree even when we don't his opinions are all backed with experience and research and he will explain why he believes as he does. If someone cannot take the truth he should not ask for it, and anyone that says he will get .3 inch groups out of a Reminton 700 with a factory stock and a NON blueprinted (read cubic dollars) action is smoking something I'd like to have. I won't say it has never happened, as all firearms have a mind of their own, but it is the rarest of occurances to even get under.5 inch.. As RC says, buy this guy some cheese and crackers to go with his whine.

Pros: Most knowledgable gunsmith in town

Cons: Brutal honesty

I have been a customer at Territorial Gunsmiths for over 10 years. I have always been treated fairly and with respect. I have not always liked the answers that I have been given, usually in regard to a gun that has issues, but I have always been "eduacted " from a gunsmithing aspect as to why my weapon was doing what it was doing and why it was due to the engineering of the gun and that was how it was. Simple. You do not always want to hear that your gun is always going to act up, but knowledge is power, and to be given an explanation as top why is important to me. I would and do entrust Territorial Gunsmiths with any of my gun collection.

Pros: Straight up and honest information

Cons: Too honest for some

I first was directed to Territorial Gunsmiths a couple of years ago to help me with a Colt .45 project gun. After the introduction I was treated very fairly and received exceptional customer service and the quality of workmanship was outstanding. Territorial Gunsmiths always offered an honest opinion about the types of repairs requested and often discouraged spending money on something that was not warranted. That is pretty rare in this day and age of constant rip off artists. I have often been in the shop when other customers come in and they all have been treated extremely fair and professional. I can say that I have recommended Territorial Gunsmiths too many of my friends and they all have great luck and no complaints. If you want an honest knowledgeable gunsmith to work on your gun I can say I would only recommend Territorial Gunsmiths.

Pros: Good quality workmanship, Fair prices, Honest Answers

Mr. Bxxxx was informed that the work he was requesting to have performed would cost more than the finished product would be worth. We felt that he would be better served in investing in a different firearm. With over 30 years of experience in this field when we reject a job from which we would realize a profit it is because performing the work would be a disservice to the customer. We were not the first gunsmithing operation that he had contacted who did not wish to perform services on his firearm, and if fact he could not find a local gunsmith that he could work with. Upon receiving the firearm we discovered that it was a less desirable model, (push feed type action), than he originally led us to believe. We discovered additional problems than originally were unknown and attempted to persuade him not to proceed. Per invoice # Bxxxx 072-01, all services were completed in the manner requested. Additional services to repair a break in the stock were also performed with out charge. This was done as a courtesy to the customer to insure the functioning of the firearm when returned to service. Mr. Bxxxx sentimental attachment to the firearm has clouded his ability to deal with the matter in a realistic manner. His complaint seems not with the work performed which was done as requested but that “I hurt his feelings”. After numerous e-mails and telephone conversations from, and to, him about this simple job of mounting a new barrel on his rifle there was a point that the non-billable time spent “holding his hand” became excessive. I concur with his desired resolution “that people deserve to know what they are getting themselves into before they spend hundreds of dollars”. We attempted to do this with Mr. Bxxxx from the beginning. We deal with firearms and do not offer counseling services. I suggest that Mr. Bxxxxx contact a professional who can assist him in the areas of his feelings, or a cheese shop to make a purchase to go with his whine.

Territorial Gunsmiths LLC, how do I describe the President, Randy Hengl? One word: RUDE. The man proceeded to ridicule me about where I wanted to go with my rifle. More specifically, he made fun of my beliefs as well as tell me that I was wasting my money on my rifle. This, of course infuriated me. Luckily for him, he told me this AFTER I had already paid him in full for his services. I haven't spoke with him or his company since he told me I wasting my money on my rifle. I would NEVER recommend him or his services to anyone. My advice for you is to do your research! I thought my 6 months of research was good enough...HAW!! If you are looking for a gunsmith to do some work for you, go to a forum and ask people who have been there...done that. Many gunsmiths (like RC Hengl) will try to sound like what you want. But all he wanted was my money, he didn't satisfy my needs at all. As for his work, he seems to have done a good job. Since I don't speak with him anymore, I had to find out the hard way the quirks of my new barrel, so it is taking some time to tweak. After 100 rounds, I have gotten .625 MOA at 100 yards...not that good but not that bad...considering where it came from: 1.25 MOA, I have essentially doubled the accuracy. I will get .3 MOA before it's over, it's just going to take some time. If you want a nice gentleman who knows his stuff, call Kampfeld Custom. Check out his website, call him up, he'll sit down and talk with you and wont rush you. RC Hengl on the other hand will rush rush rush you like its going out of style. You cant get the man to just straight up answer a question for you without giving you his "Godly" lectures. He honestly thinks he's the best gunsmith out there, and for that matter, he thinks he's better than everyone else. Just call him up someday, and start talking to him. Give it 10 minutes and he's already asking you to either send him your rifle or get off the phone because YOU'RE WASTING HIS TIME!

Pros: Work Ethic, logic

Cons: rudeness, not timely, not responsive, un-friendly, stuck up personality, thinks he's superior to you, wont give you time of day, thinks he knows it all, un-open mind, NO Patience, greedy, etc etc etc
