One of my favs

If you're flexible with your time and can enjoy a meal you waited too long for with an empty soft drink, this is a great bet. I recommend the The Amigos Enchiladas, though I've had great chimis too. I go to Salsa's often, so I've learned that it's best to go when it's kind of empty (they get overwhelmed easily).

Fun and relaxed

I went with my book club. We enjoyed the slow pace of the evening and spent several hours chatting, in addition to eating and drinking. No one tried to rush us from our table or constantly keep us ordering. The total bill was around $30 a person for a three and a half hour experience. The margaritas were great (and strong!) We're not lightweights, but no one had more than two. Everyone enjoyed their food although be aware there are side dish choices and if you don't specify, they will automatically bring you rice and beans. Our server was very nice and we enjoyed trying to speak Spanish with her. I am going back with my husband.

Third Strike, They're Out

Too bad. I actually like the food but last night was my third and last visit to Salsa a la Salsa. Three times I've enjoyed my food but three times I've had problems with my bill. All three times I've left with that funny little feeling that someone was trying to rip me off. On my first visit, my bank account was charged $6 more than what I signed for. I didn't realize it until a week later when I checked my bank transactions. Fortunately, my bank disupted the charge and I didn't pay the overcharge. On the second visit, my detailed bill totaled approximately $26. Silly me, I handed the waitress my Visa card. She asked me to sign a slip for approximately $32. Sure, I caught it. Oh, she apologized but I still felt "almost cheated." Again. Last night I asked for a little more sour cream and salsa because the tiny dollop on my quesadilla was not sufficient. Guess what? The detailed bill indicated "extra chips" and "extra sour cream." ???? The waiter explained that he HAD to charge for the extra sour cream and salsa. He changed words on the bill to indicate "extra picante." Had he told me that when I ordered the extra, I would've accepted it. He made no mention of it until I questioned the bil. AGAIN. Last night's unfortunate dispute could've been avoided had there been sufficient sour cream on the platter! After three visits and three overcharges, I won't return.

Huge disaster!

My family and I went there to celebrate my birthday. I'm a huge fan of Mexican food, and was looking forward to some "authentic" food. It was a disaster from beginning to end. The air conditioning was either not working or off-- and it was stifling in the resturant. Those of us who ordered margaritas got them quickly, but the sodas took over an hour (including for the kids!), and the water that we ordered at the beginning didn't come until 1/2 through our meal (and then only 3 of the 6 of us got them). The food was awful! My flautas con pollo were inedible--and ice cold. The chicken in the the flauntas was so dry that I could hardly stab it with my fork. And, unfortunantely, a couple of us were sick all night from what we did eat. Plus, three of us got our meals almost 45 minutes after the others at our table, and the first three meals took over an hour after we ordered. We should have turned around and gone to Pepitos when we walked in the door and found two different table threatning to walk out. Overall, our experience was completely disappointing. This staff was friendly, but almost useless. The salsa verde was amazing, but those are the only good things to say about this place.

Big Let Down!

Food was cold, and far from authentic with little flavor. Service is slow(server forgot our drink orders), although good margaritas. Would not go back and do not recommend. I will be going back to Pepitos!

Would rather have had Chipotle

We like all kinds of Mexican food, from casual to gourmet, and this was some of the worst we've had. The sides were ice cold, and I ordered steak fajitas and received chicken. The food was bland and the service was blah. The reviews that say the food was as great as the art were written by the artist, most likely, trying to get people into the restaurant to view it. The art was ugly too. The only thing the three of us liked was the exposed brick wall and the salsa with the free chips. Do NOT spend your money here.

• Pros: Salsa was ok.
• Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE.

Rim your rita!

Upon entering, i was a bit sceptical (from the other reviews). Salsa was great, clean environment, and creative decor. Food (popular burito, and chicken fajitas(which were marinated in wine)) was at our table in less than 10 minutes! amazing time... and service. Food was some of the best we have had for the price.

As my boyfriend remarks "This burrito is the best i have ever had!"- highly recomended to anyone looking for athentic mexican cuisine, and a good margherita for the right price.

• Pros: Fast service, perfect price, fantastic food

This long, narrow space and toasty fireplace see a daily rush of office workers and foodies out for a quick, tasty lunch. Bright, provocative art from Lake Street's Trujillo gallery hangs above the booths on exposed-brick walls. The food is traditional Mexican with a bit of flair, bedecked with queso fresco and savory sauces. Examples include pupusas--cheese-stuffed masa pancakes topped with pico de gallo--and Devil Mary Chicken Wings in a slow-burn pepper sauce.

Not just the taste of Mexico, but the Culture, too!

I love this restaurant. I have read the reviews about slow service, but dude! Have you ever been to Mexico? One of the fabulous things you can learn from the Mexican Culture is to SLOW DOWN! Especially when you are having a night out with your family or loved ones.

The fish tacos are something I crave, and Lorenzo (the owner, no less!) was happy to accomodate my little 5 year old's requests for some substitutions in her order.

The artwork on the walls, the people who serve you, the owner being a "hands on" part of the operation. We love it! My five year old still asks, "Mom, when are we going to go to 'Salsa a la Salsa' again?"

Practice your Spanish there, too! Most of the servers and Lorenzo are native speakers and are very patient with your search for the right verb tense.

Thumbs up!

Yummy Chips and Salsa!

This was a great restaurant! After checking out lots of possibilities to take my sister and brother in law, we decided that this was the place! We were so pleased! The chips and salsas were yummy! The chips were really sturdy and had great crunch! All of our entrees - shrimp enchiladas, the steak tenderloin special of the night, the fish tacos and the veggie fajitas - were delicious. Our server even brought me ice and some medicine when I burned my arm on the fajita plate (that I was warned about already!)!
