Shut er' down

by Anthello at Citysearch

Horrible Crowd, Horrible Service. Save your time. They should close this place down, and turn it into a treatment center for people with beard lice. The beer list wasn't bad, but seriously, every bar has that beer list. I would much rather go to moto-i anyways.

Rude and threatening waiting staff

by avgJoeBeerDrnkr at Citysearch

I've lived in Uptown for about three years. Because of this I've come to expect a little attitude with my service, but my oh my this place takes the cake. Far and away the most rude and threatening staff of any restaurant I have been to in the Twin Cities. I mean this place makes the CC Club staff look gentle and attentive!

I came here with a few friends before a Vikings game one time. We got a round of bloodys, kept quiet, and played darts for about an hour. Then on the way out we ordered two rounds of shots for the road and tipped out well. When we found the cab hadn't come yet we went back inside to get another round while we waited. But instead, the bartender decided we were 'cut off'. We asked why and he didn't give us a reason, just said he could do that if he wanted.

After a total of three drinks, none of us were even close to drunk or belligerent. This guy was completely unprovoked with his behavior towards us; he was just on some sort of random power trip. Which was weird because we had been respectful and tipped. When we questioned his logic he physically threatened us. Needless to say it was a major mood dampner for our group outing.

I will never go back to this bar. Ever. I tell all my friends to avoid it at all costs. There are a ton of other bars in uptown, don't waste your time on this dump.

Great beer selection, cupcakes.....and thats about it

by Naughty Nick at Citysearch

I guess I’ll start with the good from my visit. Ample parking available, great selection of imported beers, and as my fiancée happily pointed out…they sell cupcakes. The bartenders were pleasant and attentive, empty beers were filled quickly, and the selection is top notch. Wait staff was pleasant, even comped us a cupcake for no apparent reason.

Now I’ll start with the bad from my visit. I arrived with a party of four and was greeted by the host explaining a 20 minute wait was ahead. Fair enough as it was a busy Saturday night. After multiple drinks at the bar and a 70 minute wait, our party was seated. After viewing the limited seating in this location, it is clear that wait times can vary greatly. Once seated we all placed our drink orders at which point I asked the first time to get water. Drinks arrived, no water. We placed our food order and I again asked for water. I also asked for a side of sriracha mayo (love sriracha, eat it on almost everything) to go with the tots I ordered. Food arrived, still no water and no mayo for tots. I asked for both again and eventually got the mayo, but no water. I mentioned this to the friend sitting next to me so he asked for water and received one immediately. At this point the water was just comical. Three of us ordered burgers which according to the menu are made with Kobe beef ground daily. Perhaps my taste for Kobe was not primed for this burger, but it tasted as though someone packed the meat together to much or too long. The Ninja burger that I ordered lacked heat, seasoning, and flavor. I’ve had big macs that tasted much better than this burger. The tots were nothing short of the frozen variety available in your local supermarket, no seasoning (sriracha saved them). My fiancée ordered nachos, and while the first layer was amazing, it was followed by entirely too many chips without toppings (a waste in my opinion) and small sides. It is also served on a layer of aluminum foil, of which I found a piece stuck to one of the chips I was about to eat. It is just a poor choice to serve food in such a manner, as I’m sure no one wants to deal with foil passing its way through the digestive track.

The overall experience was a bummer since walking into the place and viewing the menu I was hoping for a new regular spot. I will probably never stop by this location again unless it is to belly up to the bar. Nothing here that I would recommend to others although you experience may vary.

save your time and money

by foodcriticmn at Citysearch

If you want to be treated rudely and threatened if you complain, then this place is definitely for you. In their tiny cramped bar area you can enjoy the rude treatment and dismissive condescension from their wait staff, and when they get your order wrong (don't worry--they will) and you ask them to fix it, it will be your fault entirely. Expect them to use profanity on complainers and to physically threaten and intimidate anyone who objects to their poor treatment.

In terms of value for money, you'd be better off eating out of a garbage can (likely healthier and cleaner too)--when your order does finally arrive, expect to feel ripped off. The portions will be small enough that you'll wonder what you're really paying for, the quality of the ingredients will be stale, and you'll just feel like a fool for going there in the first place.

  • Pros: rude treatment, abuse from management
  • Cons: terrible food, terrible service

Horrible Service

by starzrh18 at Citysearch

Unfortunately, I ran into this horrible waitress they are all talking about below. Enough to make me never go back there. Obviously, a place that hires people like this doesn't deserve my business or yours.

Always a Favorite

by marcdd2 at Citysearch

I have always considered this Bar/Restaurant as one of my favorites. Comfortable and Low-key. Go in and relax and enjoy the comfort food. When people have a bad time I always wonder what happened. Everyone has their own opnion. Mine is that they have a wonderful beer selection, great Bar Food and fun, helpfull staff.

Oh Yeah - Looks like "Traveler69" has only been to 2 restaurants ever - did they get fired from a Bulldog or just have an Ex working there?

Go in and make your own opinion of this great place. See ya there.

  • Pros: Great Beer Selection, Food Offerings

Worst service in town

by Traveler69 at Citysearch

This place has the worst service from serving staff to management. They do not care about their customers. The wide variety of beer is great, food is unique and quite good and atmosphere works.

  • Pros: Beer, food
  • Cons: Treatment of customers

Great food, horrible waitress

by LittleJames at Citysearch

After reading the reviews I decided to bite the bullet and try the Bulldog in Uptown anyway. I've been to the other Bulldog in NE many times and heard that the Uptown location had a better menu, so my wife and I gave it a try based on our love of the Bulldog NE. Besides, we had a coupon.

The food was great, though the fries did seem "soggy" and were horribly over-seasoned (maybe they weren't blanched before they were fried?). I tried the cajun fries and my wife had the truffle fries. No major problems with the food.

The waitress, however, was god-awful! If you read any of the previous reviews about the blond-haired beatch working there, be warned...this creature has morphed from a bitchy blonde into a raging redhead. Actually, it wasn't that she was mean, just that she never (and I mean never) bothered to even look at us much less smile. She seemed to be perturbed that we wanted her to refill our waters and when she dropped the check said, "There you go." In fact, the only other words that she uttered were, "What do you want to drink?" and "Are you two ready?" Not once in her three sentences was she polite. My opinion is that she's sleeping with the owner, because there should be no other reason that this pseudo-server should have a job.

I asked why the truffle fries were $4.00 while the cajun fries were $1.75, my answer was, "Truffle fries are more expensive." Duh. I don't mind paying more for a specialty item, and the menu clearly states that there is an additional charge for fries, but why is the price of a side of truffle fries the same as a full order? (We received a side order, not a full order). A good server might want to mention that the side will be 50% of the cost of the meal.

Overall, I love the food. Again, I LOVE the Bulldog's food. It's too bad that I'll never eat at that location again. The waitress who brought our food, cleared our table AND said "have a good night" wasn't actually ours.

It's too bad. I would've tipped her.

  • Pros: Excellent food!
  • Cons: Worst sever I've had in months!

it used to be my favorite...

by plasticepoxy at Citysearch

My boyfriend and I used to go to the Bulldog on average 2-3 times a week. My favorite the veggie dog, his was the Fire Dog. I raved about this place to whomever would listen. It was my FAVORITE restaurant and bar. We would go for drinks, food or both.

My opinion has changed for a variety of reasons, mainly the poor service and change in menu items.

Now, I wouldn't complain about having to wait to sit down, or the amount of time it took to get my food, even when it bordered on ridiculous. I'm not the only patron in the place and not the only one expecting service.

We went one night and ordered our food. I had my favorite, my boyfriend went out on a limb with a new sandwich after discussing it with the server. It took some time for the food to come, but we had grown to expect that. Here was the problem: the food was terrible. My veggie dog, which at that time was more like a brat, was tough and dry. I couldn't even take a bite using my teeth! I had to use a knife and fork to cut through the food and then chew so much my jaw hurt that I quit eating well before i was even halfway through. While requesting our tab I mentioned this to the server. She told me she would tell the kitchen. We sat there, uncertain what to do when she didn't return with our tab. After a while the cook came to our table and aggressively stated that I obviously don't know what a veggie dog should taste like, because "that's what they're like". I informed him that my boyfriend and myself had been customers of the Bulldog for a number of years, and I had mentioned my disappointment with the quality of the food only because I knew the quality I should have been able to expect. The solution at that point was to comp us the veggie dog and grudgingly ask if that was enough. It took some time before I was willing to return. I was disappointed to find the menu a replica of the NE Bulldog...I have not returned since. I miss my favorite place.

  • Pros: Outdoor patio, extended beer list
  • Cons: Quality of service
