Hey Kremer, you'r a D-Bag
by youreAdouche
I was on here to find the phone number of this place because I got so flippin sauced I left my debit card. Then I find myself reading some of the reviews and cannot believe some of you d-bags, especially you, Kremer-something-or-other. Boo phucking hoo you assclown. I would venture to say you are an only child that grew up in andover that now resides in coon rapids. I hope you felt better about "informing" the manager about your displeasure with "plugging" the meter and actually waiting for your food. I wish I could bet on you because I am sure you have red hair, a small pen15, have no friends and beat off to little boys. The independent is for people that aren't caught up in themselves and think they are the only responsibility in the entire place. Do the world a favor and don't "update" anyone on anything....no one cares.
Not the Greatest
by raizit
Had the party room for a birthday gathering. Preordered some food that should have been served on a separate table. Instead the food was randomly placed in front of guests who then had to go around collecting what they wanted. Service was so-so. Food not so good. Cream cheese wontons were pretty good. Overall dissappointed. Called in to complain and was treated well by the manager - much appreciated.
This place is the WORST ever!!!
by justmetosee
I do not understand how anyone can enjoy this place! It's always way too crowded with drunk frat boys, skankily dressed women, and just the general grossness of Minneapolis. Uptown is supossed to be "hip" (or so they say) but this place is just your general, everyday Meat Market. The bathrooms are the worst. There was actually various bodily fluids and excretions all over the womens' side the last time I was there. GROSS! Our waitress was rude and flippant with my group. Yeah, Sweetie, i get it, you're busy but all I wanted was a DAMN drink within a 20 minute time frame! Maybe they need more servers or bartenders or whatever, but I will never spend my money there ever again.
- Pros: decent bar food, good drinks (when you can actually get one from your surly waitress)
- Cons: Just about everything else.
good food, fun crowd
by bajomono
I have never had a bad time at The Independent. The crowd is always composed of eclectic (usually) good-looking people in their mid-twenties. The food items, during happy hour, are only $5 each and the margherita pizza is a steal for that price! When I'm not there for a fun drunken night with a whole buncha friends, I am there during the regular daylight hours just for the yummy salads. The menu is somewhat limited but I would just go there for the decent price and the good salads/margherita pizza/nachos.
- Pros: good food, cheap, good crowd
AWFUL

The bouncer was not a nice person and I would highly recomend going somewhere else.
There are so many better bars then this one. I would suggest going across the street to "Drink".
Worst place ever
by capule
The bouncer was very rude. He didn't believe it was me on the id and didn't give me my id back. I needed my i.d. to fly back home for thanksgiving break. Thanks to him I can't see my family.
It seemeded like the bouncer was very rude because we were Asian and he was extremely nice to those who were white. I do NOT recommend going there.
Sometimes great, sometimes not

When the Independent is busy it is super busy and a great time. But when it's slow, it is super slow. The food isn't half bad and the martinis are delicous! Definitely worth a shot!!
A stylish Asian-influenced eatery where the flirtation possibilities are endless.

In Short
The Independent has the look of a comfortable, stylish neighborhood bar, with groups of friends and couples watching flat-screen TVs. Artwork ranges from Vargas-style pinup girls to art-school paintings of tortured blondes. Open the menu--and flip past several pages of sexy martini concoctions--and you'll find Asian-influenced bistro cuisine. The seafood-heavy listings feature wasabi shrimp cocktails, panko-crusted ahi and halibut with mango sauce and creamy mashed potatoes. For dessert, there's spiced pumpkin cheesecake or mud pie.
Hard to beat late night.
by schwepps151
Their late night happy hour is impossible to beat with their large appetizers for only 5 dollars. Also, along with their appetizers, they do have some good drink specials, such as Sunday night where more expensive booze is cheap. So yeah, this and Chino have a good battle going in uptown, except we tend to go for Independent food, can't be beat. Never had bad service also, we know they are busy and we don't like to be hounded. So, I love this place, what can I say?
- Pros: Late night happy hour, ambience, service
Love happy hour!
by kklive
They have a fantastic happy hour- checkout their web site (even without happy hour they still have good prices beers start at $3.50 - not bad for Uptown). The food is also wonderful- creative and reasonably priced. I have been here to eat a few times now, and have always received good service. Their late night life is also fun- a full bar and fun people.
- Pros: Food, Hppy Hour, Location
- Cons: Parking
