Pleasantly surprised!
by meladmin at Citysearch
Wasn't sure what to expect, based on reviews I've seen on here. My boyfriend and I were VERY pleasantly surprised! I went there to "research" the site for an upcoming dinner I'm planning at my company.
To start we had the Panko Fried Calamari-so light and tender, accompanying Aioli really made this dish.
My boyfriend had the Oven Roasted Pork Shank w/spicy onion rings & corn cakes-SCRUMPTIOUS! I had the Flank Steak Salad-superb. We ended with a divine dessert served in a small flower pot of all things! Layers of coffee soaked cake, Mascarpone Cream and chocolate mousse-topped with a mint sprig and an edible Orchid, one of the yummiest things I've ever had!
A unique wine list-the two we tried based on our server's recommendations, very good-Fess Parker Chardonnay 2002, and Lyeth Meritage 2002.
By far, one of the nicest meals I've had in Minneapolis in a long time.
I wish we all could be honest!!!

Great place! I get tired of reading through what is obviously a 'senseless attack' from either an ex-employee or a near competitor. Its strange when these reviews for 2 restaurants are posted on the same day. Anyways, Tryg's is a great restaurant.
Mice and Rude management
by AM301 at Citysearch
Need I say more?
While eating we saw mice running around the booths. When I told the mgmt they said they knew about it and did not offer any comps or anything for this disturbing experience. I called the next day and talked to that Manager who was rude and annoyed I was clling. I reported them to the health dept next. Gross!

AND I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE FOOD,THIS SATURDAY I WENT TO SEE THE DAN RISTROM BAND AT TRYG'S BECAUSE THE 2 OR 3 TIMES I SAW THEM THERE IT WAS AN AWESOME EXPERINCE AND A FUN TIME FOR ALL, SO WHEN i HEARD THEY WERE PLAYING THIS SATURDAY I DID WHAT I ALWAYS DO WHEN THEY PLAY I SENT OUT AN E MAIL BLAST TO ALL MY FRIENDS INVITING THEM TO THIS AWESOME SET, MOST TIMES WE GET ABOUT A DOZEN OR SO PEOPLE TO SHOW UP..WELL ON THIS SATURDAY 2 OF MY FEMALE FRIENDS SHOWED UP AND WERE SEATED AT THE BAR,THERE WAS A EMPTHY SEAT NEXT TO THEM THAT I SAT IN TO GREET THEM, WE'LL THE GUY SITTING IN THE OTHER SEAT SAID THAT THIS SEAT WAS TAKEN AND I SHOULD GET UP, I KINDLY EXPLAINED TO THIS GENTLEMAN THAT I WAS MERELY SAYING HELLO TO MY FRIENDS AND ONCE HIS BUDDY RETURNS I WOULD GLADLY GET UP AS I WAS ALREADY SEATED BEHIND THEM WITH OTHER FRIENDS WHO SHOWED UP ON MY INVITE, WELL THIS GUY WANTED NO PART OF ME BEING ANY WHERE NEAR HIM SO IN A VERY AGGRESSIVE TONE HE DEMANDED THAT I GET UP AND GO AROUND THE BAR AWAY FROM HIM AS IF HE COULDN''T STAND THE THOUGH OF ME EVEN BEING NEAR HIM.AT THIS TIME THE BARTENDERED HEARD WHAT WAS GOING ON AND APPERAED TO SIDE WITH THIS WHITE GENTLEMAN WHICH GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION THAT BLACK FOLKS WERE NOT REALLY WELCOMED IN THIS ESTABLISHMENT. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO THE BARTENDER THAT THIS MAN WAS BEING VERY DISRESPECTFUL TO ME AT WHICH TIME THE WHITE GENTLEMAN ONCE AGAIN VERY LOUDLY SAID GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME AND GET OUT OF OUR SEAT, WELL AT THIS TIME I FELT AS IF I WAS IN SELMA ALA IN THE 60s BY THIS TIME THE 2 WHITES FRIENDS I WAS SEATED WITH INTERVENEED ON MY BEHALF AND TOLD THE BARTENDRES THAT THIS GUYS BEHAVIORS WAS TOTALLY OUT OF LINE BUT WERE ONLY MET WITH BLANK UN APOLOGETIC STARES FROM THE BAR KEEPS.FINALLY HIS FRIEND RETURNED AND I GAVE HIM HIS SEAT AS PROMISED AND RETURN TO MY OTHER FREINDS.I MUST SAY THAT THE WHITE GENTLEMAN DID APOLOGIZE TO ME ABOUT LOSING HIS COOL , OF COURSE I ACCEPTED HIS APOLOGY.

What a spectacular atmosphere! great food & service. The place is right down the block from me. Its my spot. When my parents come to town-the 1st place they want to stop is Tryg's. Great for brunch, dinner or just drinks!
A Review for Tryg's - A Delicious Surprise!
by aiam at Citysearch
Since my husband and I stopped into Tryg's one night for a late dinner, I have been meaning to write a review about the great food and atmosphere. I loved the Salmon Cakes on the Fennel-Apple Arugula Salad, the Ratatouille that my husband ordered was right, great fish and wild rice, and the ice cream sundae was a nice ending that was not too much after all the delicious flavors. The drinks were good too. We did wait awhile for our first drink and that is the only complaint, as I try to find one. However, we were able to speak with one of the chef's who we know is a fantastic chef and that was also fun. We absolutely enjoyed our experience. It was a perfect stop on a cold night. Now, as it getting nice out, we are looking forward to visiting again. They have the wood fire area and some outdoor seating.
I will NEVER go back to Tryg's for bunch!!!
by Eric Scheel at Citysearch
I have been to Tryg's a few times and liked the atmosphere and food. For Mothers Day I decided to take the family for brunch. It was a horrible experience and I will NEVER go back to Tryg's for bunch!!!
The waitress told us the brunch was $24.95/person and $10/kid. Milk NOT included for the kids. The food was bad. The presentation was a mess. The fruit on the buffet was in the upside down plastic lid of the pre-cut fruit tray. The hash-browns were burnt and cold. I watched a server pick something out of the food tray with her hand and say "what is that". Then just leave the rest of the food in the tray.
On our bill the brunch was $29.95/person and the waitress denied saying it was $24.95 even though 4 people hear her say it.
Overcharged. Terrible Manager. Never coming back.
by TCReviewer at Citysearch
Thankfully I kept my receipt. Not till 2 weeks later on my CC statement did I realize I was overcharged conveniently by $35. Coincidentally I left a cash tip. After calling to speak to a manager after I realized I was over charged, I was told they would call me back. No call. For 2 days. Finally I called again and spoke to the manager, who was very inconsiderate and short with me. I was disconnected from the manager, and after calling back and waiting 5 mins on hold, the manager finally answers. After they agreed to refund my $35, they hung up. No apology, no gift card offered, nothing more than terrible handling of the situation by the manager. I certainly will NOT be going back, simply because of how the manager handled the situation. *********FAIL!!*********
Always a fun time!

I live close by, and go there usually twice a month. Staff is always friendly, and I love the apps and happy hour food! Great ambiance, and usually the live music is pretty good. Highly recommended!
WOW
by yomyjimmy at Citysearch
The food was phenomenal. I can't remember the last time I had a steak that was this juicy, tender, and cooked to order. The location is prime too. Not too far from Calhoun Square. A definite place for those who love to dine such as myself.
Mother's Day FLOP
by minneapolis1133 at Citysearch
Tryg's may have the best food in the world, I'll never know, and neither will my wife or kids. We had reservations yesterday for Mother's Day with everyone looking forward to a tasty Mom's Day brunch. We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation to find a chaotic lobby area, unconcerned hosts who told us "we are about an hour behind so we won't be able to seat you for about an hour". Remember, WE HAD RESERVATIONS! Needless to say, when a restaurant can't honor a reservation, especially on such an important day, they will NEVER see my business and I'll go out of my way to make sure others are aware of the lack of concern that the hosts and manager showed. If people only thought about how they'd want to be treated, WHY EVEN MAKE A RESERVATION IF YOU AREN"T GOING TO HONOR IT!!! I understand short delays, but over an hour, come on!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Reservations don't mean a thing...
