We have had dinner at Stella's before and I thought last time was OK, but last night made me a believer. Although I think it's somewhat pricey for the surroundings, which is loud and casual (has kind of a Red Lobster feel on the main floor), the food was fabulous! We hosted 10 adults for our daughter's birthday. Ordered appetizers -- cornbread is awesome as is the calamari (wonderful light batter). Waitress comped us a crab/parmesan dip that was excellent (a birthday gift, she said). Stuffed grouper was the best fish I've ever had in the Midwest. Husband had what I can only describe as a big chunk of halibut with a very light dijon/horseradish/parmesan panko crust (actually flavor was so light it was barely there) but the preparation and the quality of fish was GREAT. Son-in-law had king salmon which, while a smaller size piece, he said was excellent. We had a picky eater/seafood hater and she said the steak was good; ribs were too. One person ordered Nicoise Salad w/seared ahi tuna. He's a waiter at an upscale Twin Cities restaurant and said he would have been proud to serve the salad. Desserts are HUGE. Several of us shared the Bananas Foster style cheesecake (waitress flames the liquor at the table -- oooh, ahhhh) and a pineapple upside cake with amaretto and caramel. It was great, but my daughter took most of it home as they also comped her a delicious, big red velvet cupcake with a candle in it. Dining room was packed on a Wednesday night and rooftop wait was 2 or more hours. At $9/apiece for Mojitos, we can't afford to drink long enough to wait for a table, The purple mojitos are wonderful, the pomegranate mint lemonade is a virgin version at 1/3 the cost. Mmmmm... Our waitress was wonderful. She knew the preparations well, gave us great advice on what to order, and her helpers were quick and efficient. Best surprise of all -- No added gratuity for a group of 10; she worked for her tip!

Pros: Beautiful view, great seafood, great waitstaff, large portions

Cons: No bread baskets, high priced drinks

Editor's Review

Diners buzz about this Uptown cafe's impressive roof deck; but there's something to be said for the seafood, too.  See the full editorial review.
