Worse place to work
by toneman
I worked for Mickeys off and on...why off and on you say! Well between the vagrents begging for money and cigs and dealers trying to sell you something and the management being okay with this action it was too hard to work there. I find that the owner doesn't care about cleanliness and that is a dead ringer for someone to get sick. There is grease dripping from the light fixtures onto the countertops. Ummm that can get into someones food!!! Not too good you guys! Just because I told the owners son (who couldn't keep his own restaurant going), to take the job and shove it I am no longer even welcome as a customer! That's no skin off my nose!!! I have better places to spend my dollar! They have some really messed up thinking!
- Pros: good recipes...and a couple good cooks
- Cons: rude waitresses (unless they know you)!
The classic greasy-spoon dive.
by BigDaddyCool2564
I had the "$200 burger" at Mickey's. I call it the $200 burger because it was worth the 5 hour drive from central ND just to eat it. That's how good it was! Yeah, it's a greasy spoon, but the atmosphere of the place is what really makes it worth the visit. DEFINITELY not for the calorie conscious (I saw Mickey put in a cup of butter for a 3-egg omelet) but it more than makes up for it in taste and portion size. I didn't even mind the 40 minute wait to get seated. I will definitely visit this place again and again each time I visit the cities.
Not what I expected!!!

Have wanted to go there for years. Not what I expected!! The waitress was VERY rude. I asked if I could use the restroom. She said no. She must have seen the look on my face, and said did you think I was serious? I nodded, and she said "what a loser." Then continued with a "Jesus Christ!" I was very offended. I also thought that the place was filthy. My coat got full of grease stains from the booth. I had to throw it away. And I thought it was expensive. But one positive thing, the food was good!! Never again.
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: Waitress sucked! Expensive, and filthy.
HUGE Omelettes!
by batgirl3341
this place is great! cheap eats and huge portions. the only thing thats a downfall is the omelette was a little greasy... aka. a small puddle on the plate. great service!
- Pros: food, service
- Cons: greasy
It's everything you want in a gresy spoon

Sit at the bar or one of the four booths. The service, and food are always great. I have been treated the same in the morning, noon, and late late night. The potatoes O' Brian are not to be missed. The coffee is dinner coffee, but drinkable. I have not tried the lunch/ dinner selections, but the Breakfast stuff is good all down the line.
- Pros: open all night, people watching, service
- Cons: 4 booths at peek times always a wait.
Everybody needs to go to Mickey's before they die!!!

Seriously! This place is an institution and the absolute best after-bar breakfast in this town! Make sure you go during the night shift so that you can see the best cook in the area prepare up to 20 orders at a time berore your eyes....my friends and I like to call him The Professional because he not only cooks, he also entertains, cracks jokes, and pokes fun at the drunks eating there. Not to be missed.
- Pros: Cool staff, friendly patrons
- Cons: You clothes/hair will smell like grease after you leave
Great old time diner, fantastic food!

You can't beat Mickey's for taking you back about 60 years. I don't think this diner has changed at all. It serves 24/7/365. The food was great (we went for breakfast), you have to get the Potatoes O'Brien, they are by far some of the best I have had. The staff is friendly but has a bit of a chip on their shouldar, but that is part of the charm. The only thing I didn't like was it seemed dirty. My dishware was not but I guess you can't ever really get 60 years of smoke and grease out of a place. I got past it, and I reccommend you doing so as well. It is well worth it!
- Pros: Service, setting, food!
- Cons: 60 years of smoke and grease
Check your attitude at the door...

If you want a five star restaurant, go somewhere else. Mickey's doesn't pretend to be something it is not. I have been going here regularly for years, and I can't think of any other place I would want to be at 1 or 2am on a weekend. Every waiter and waitress I have come across have been nothing but nice and helpful. In fact, since I have become a regular, they know my name, my order (which NEVER changes), how my job is going, etc. This restaurant, if gone to at the right time, is a home away from home.
Yes, the food is greasy, but I have never tasted hashbrowns like these before. They are crispy, and you can actually taste the potatoes! The mulligan stew is warm and comforting, with large chunks of meat and veggies in a thick, beefy broth. Mickey's is a unique experience, and is a one of a kind landmark that my friends and I will continue to be patrons of for years to come!
- Pros: The Classic, parking, SERVICE!!!
- Cons: Not good for large groups!
St. Paul's historic diner that's famous for its looks as well as its burgers.

In Short
The 24-hour art deco red-and-cream dining car has been around since the 1930s and has lent its image to calendars, postcards and movies. Waitresses are here to get you fed, not to make small talk. Neighborhood regulars to folks stopping in for late-night or early-morning snacks fill the stainless steel and mahogany interior for greasy burgers and fries. Nostalgic diners go for mulligan stew and bean soup made from pre-World War II recipes.
mmm....fresh apple pie
by hottie_7979
I went to Mickey's for the first time at 3 am. There were a few regulars there, and plenty of seating. The waitress was friendly and the prices were great, especially for a college student on a budget. The highlight of meal was the fresh apple pie, hot from the oven at 3 in the morning. It was amazing. The greasy spoon feel reminds me of a small town diner from home. This is one of my new favorite places!
