1 star isn't low enough for this type of service

My friends and I attended this bar on st. patrick's day and had a horrible experience. We were kicked out of the bar for no valid reason. We were sitting in our booth minding our own business and the bouncers kept telling us that we had to move because we were in there way. They kept telling us this because a girl that assaulted my friend earlier in the night was also there and she had them do this to us. I understand that they can refuse service to anyone, but this type of behavior is very unprofessional. These types of establishments do not deserve to be in business and I urge everyone to get their drinks elsewhere. DO NOT GIVE THIS BAR YOUR BUSINESS
- Pros: non
- Cons: insane bouncer staff
Service is terrible 99% of the time! Hire a professional staff!

McGovern's service is terrible 99% of the time. If you want good bar food they do have it. I probably eat there once a week and have been a customer for years, my excuse for the repeat business is that I only live a block away and it is a good place to catch a game. Summers on the patio are good when you can get a seat, but the service is even worse out there.
It is understandable that when you are busy it is going to be slow especially when there is an event at the Xcel, but when it slows down the servers seem to get complacent, and have absolutely no sense of urgency. I guess they can afford to have bad service because they have a very good location, they could make alot more money if they had a professional staff though.
- Pros: Location, good place to watch a game
- Cons: Their service is horrible!!!

I would have given this a 1/2 star had one been available but since one is the lowest, here it is. The name McGovern's implies "Irish" but there is nothing Irish about the menu which includes Gyros and wrap sandwiches. Despite this, I was still hoping for some semblance of authenticity. I ordered the Fish and Chips. Oh my goodness, I have never had to use the vinegar and tarter sauce to COVER the flavor of the pre-breaded fish. It had a hard, unpleasent texture that no amount of condiments could disquise. We asked the server why a chef would think it was ok to put his name on pre-made frozen fish fillets and she answered "It isn't up to the chef, it is the owner's decesion." To the chef at Patrick McGovern's: Run!
There is a a brigtside, we went in the middle of the afternoon and found the service to be friendly and prompt (although one buser was on his cell phone). However, if its a good meal you crave, avoid McGovern's
- Pros: Fast service got us out of there in a hurry
- Cons: Don't go expecting Irish cusine or good food for that matter
They would rather have your $10 than make you happy :(

I guess it's true about the three most important things in business "Location, location, location", for this place seems to have nothing else to offer. I suppose once they got the spot so close to the Excel Center, they figured "that should be enough, who cares about the food". If you just want to get drunk, I guess you might not care; but if you are looking to dine, go to Arby's.
- Pros: It's close to the Excel Center
- Cons: Might get a better value in the stands than here.
Great food and friendly employees

If you like Thanksgiving Turkey dinner you have it here 365 days of the year. Best real turkey in the country. Great selection of beers. The entire menu if great. Crowded during X Cel events, but the speed of service is still great. Hands on owner. Forget the chain restaurants and head down to West 7th and Chesnut. Great Sunday brunch. A must place to visit!!

Is There Any Service in the Bar.....

Now, I'll give him a break. He was tending bar and working the whole bar area, but let's get more help in the bar area. All the tables were full as was the bar...Had a couple of drinks, would have liked more, but couldn't get him to take our order. Had some appetizers and they were spotty. Irish Fries = excellent, bad 'marinara' sauce, Nachos = AWFUL! I can make better in my microwave at home or get better at the dome, Artichoke Dip = marginal, thick and rich - a little much for my taste. I would return for food, but not happy hour. It was disappointing as the paddy'o seems nice, although it was raining the day we were there.
- Pros: Parking, Ample Menu Selection
- Cons: Service
A Great Place to Hang Out ANY TIME

In response to Patrick McGovern's review by daddyo1977:
Patrick McGovern's Pub is a great place to come for events and for your everyday hangout. During events, though happy hour is not available, prices are definitely NOT inflated. "Event" beers are poured as 20 ounce beers instead of the traditional 16 ounce pour, which is something we offer as a little perk on event nights. The increase in price is $.50, which is definitely not an inflated price for 4 ounces more beer than you'd get on a regular basis. Go check out McGovern's Pub any day or any time! See you there!
- Pros: Plenty of space; a fit for all ages
