The Best in St. Paul.
by grrreatt
We had always dreamed of staying here and we did on our wedding night, it was amazing. It feels luxurious from the first step to the last. The staff were great, the room was meticulously clean, the view was spectacular and of course you have the nicest restaurant right downstairs, The Saint Paul Grill. Our brunch was fantastic the next day and they even let us have late check out the next morning. Since it was our wedding night they upgraded us at no charge, we were on the top floor and must have spent at least minutes just staring out at the city below, it was so beautiful. They even use all Aveda products in the room. It was a little expensive, but nonetheless unforgettable. You have to try it at least once.
- Pros: Gorgeous hotel throughout, amazing resturant and fantastic staff.
- Cons: Too expensive to stay for long.
The Superlative Hotel of the Upper Midwest
by rjw2000
I will confess to a bit of a bias. My father began working at the St. Paul in 1934, and worked in the Grill for 40 years. My wife and I are dual-career professionals, and when we get a chance for a really special time away, the St. Paul has been one of our special places.
The St. Paul has a 95 year history of excellence. It has been the place of presidents, movie stars and the uber-wealthy of the old money of the midwest. The St. Paul is unlike any other hotel in the Twin Cities. It is simply old, classy, impeccable and smooth; more like Europe than anything I've seen in the US. It's walnut and old marble.
The food in the Grill is the best it's been in its history, and among the best now in the Twin Cities. It is a classic roadhouse- go for the beef and don't miss the hash browns. Everything I've eaten there in the last decade has been superlative. Service is very attentive, respectful and warm.
The St. Paul came upon hard times from the mid-60's until it closed about 1980. Even in its darkest days, many of its staff remained loyal and could not be enticed away by much more lucrative offers. That same type of esprit de corps lives on in the St. Paul today; Since it reopened in 1983, it's been remodeled twice, and the white lady has never been prouder. You owe it to yourself to try it.
- Pros: A true "grand hotel."
- Cons: Not Motel 6
A 1910 landmark in the Rice Park District that stands for luxury.
by Contributor
In Short
With gilt chandeliers, soaring columns and Gustav Klimt paintings, the lobby is a study in opulence. You'll get mineral water, filled ice buckets and minibars in every room, plus turn-down service. Views of Rice Park can be had from about a third of the rooms. Free Wi-Fi is available in the lobby and meals are served in the clubby St. Paul Grill. The RiverCentre, the Ordway and the Minnesota Science Museum are within walking distance.
Renovated and updated

I recently stayed at The Saint Paul Hotel on multiple occasions. I always encountered professional, helpful and friendly service staff. Since the recent renovation, the rooms and the lobby are really beautiful. I would definitely recommend this hotel. The Saint Paul Hotel is a classic place to stay.

Can't say enough about this Minnesota icon! From the moment we drove up and were greeted by the bellman to checking out it was fabulous!

OH YESSS

Stayed here a few years ago and it was a very very memorable occasion. Service was excellent. I had one of the best room service breakfasts in my life. Stayed at the Marquette a year later and their breakfast room service was very poor!
- Pros: Valet Parking, Room Service
