Great Fried Chicken and shakes
by AlinIb
I love Porky’s, my parents love it, my boyfriend obsessed with it and it’s been around forever. They come up with new pulled pork; I had it with their fried onion rings, and chocolate milk. I absolutely loved it. I had their fried chicken and chicken wings before and would recommend it to others. I always see someone on the old collectable car in a parking lot, wow, that is so interesting.
- Pros: Best onion rings, fried chicken and shakes
- Cons: Non
Where did my Porkys go?
by madmarv
Since 1956, Porkys has been THE PLACE. All of a sudden, this summer, the menu changed and so did the food. Gone are the wonderful smells of the unique burgers, gone is the unique flavor also. The new menu should have specified that nothing is as it was and you aren't going to like what it is now. There are going to be many regulars who will be choking in surprise and gagging on the taste of what they least expect at Porkys.....a below-average, dry, tasteless hunk of glop. No matter what you order now, it won't be like it was. Oh woe. Take me back to '56 and my first Twinburger. Those days are gone and so is the old Porkys. Phooey!
- Pros: None anymore
- Cons: Food has gone bad
good greazzzy burgers, it's an old school drive in
by dagomnir
If u want a good greaseburger and some nostalgia with your food this is the place, people whining it's not good, well it's not a sit down restaurant, it's a 50s drive in. It's going to be greasy, and dry, and soggy, that's why we go there! If you want a perfect burger and perfect fixins and perfect service go to Applebees, and good luck there! I can't wait to go get my $8 greasy onion ring topped burger with soggy fries!
- Pros: good tastin burgers, great environment
- Cons: not as good of environment as 10 yrs ago
great memories form 30 years back - nasty food
by 40ish
Wanting to relive a part of my childhood, My parents and I took my kids for an evening snack at the University Ave Porky's.
I have heard rave reviews on the onion rings so we ordered onion rings and root beer floats.
What a mistake! The onion rings seemed to have been fried 2 or even 3 times - where's the onions? They were nasty, salty and even the kids couldn't eat them. What a waste of 2 orders of rings at 2.39 each!
Now on to the float....where's the ice cream/soft serve. What we got was a large cup of pop with basically a dallop of soft serve. I could have gotten something better at Super America.
The workers were rude and I couldn't believe they charged another customer 35 cents for a SMALL cup of water. This is definitely one place I will never go back to or even recommend for any reason!
- Cons: poor service, bad food
best 50's style drive-in
by 62266
I have been a cook on and off for years and I know great food. I'm also a huge fan of the old style drive in. LOVE this place do not miss out. I read some other reviews for this place and couldn't understand why people didn't seem to appreciate the uniqueness of the place. I went twice in one day. To everyone at PORKY'S thank you for a great time.
- Pros: great food excellent ambiance
- Cons: they don't have one in every city
Lost a good customer

I have been going to Porky's for decades. I calculate that I spend currently spend in excess of $600 there during a year as I often end up there for workday lunch and sometimes bring companions. But, no more. Today I ordered a cruiser's combo, with tax over $8, for lunch. When I asked for a glass of water, I was told they only sold bottled water and that they don't give out water. That won't cut it...for one thing I don't believe in bottled water (it is an arragant waste of resources, and ignores the fact that city water is just perfectly wonderful). Second of all I can go into any sit down restaurant with all of its comforts, place an order, and get a glass of water. I will be damned if I will continue to spend $8 for a meal at a fast food place with no amenities-- no matter how good the food-- and be told I as a customer am not worth a single glass of water. Goodbye Porkys--I have no doubt that there are a lot of places that would like my $600/yr in this economy, and I am going to find them!
Not much special

A friend told me to try a burger from this place so I stopped in tonight. Burgers are a bit dry and Im not a fan of the toasted bun, I prefer them very soft. The fixins lacked a bit too. The onion rings are ok, but too soft and WAY too salty. Milkshake is pretty good, only thing I finished. Porkys is mostly hype...Id honestly rather eat at white castle most of the time.
The Classic is Relived On Central Avenue at Porky's
by PorkysJunkie
I just gotta say, hey wait a minute, to the people giving the new Porky's on Central a bad rap. I've been a huge fan of the Porky's ever since it was on Lake St, we've been eating the classic onion rings for over 30 years. I have to say that Porky's has never had a pulled pork sandwich at any of the locations for as long as we can remember. I even asked my wife, whom car hopped there in the late 60's, and she agreed, no pulled pork! And said, why would you want one when the pork cutlet is such a good sandwich! I also have to say, Porky's is where I met my wife of over 30 years. I really brought back memories seeing the Minneapolis Porky's for the first time over on Central Av. I couldn't believe the Legendary Onion Rings were coming back to this side of the river again!
With all the Nostalga aside, my first experience eating at the new Porky's on Central brought me right back to the days of crusing and enjoying a good bite. I walked in and the music was playing oldies tunes, the high top stools were old diner style and the service was on que by some lovely help. I had the Twin burger combo. The Onion Rings were superb, not greasy and a perfect golden brown, just like I like them. My wife had a shake, twin burger and fries, she said she felt like it was the same food she remembers from the good old days of 1969.
All and all I can say with out a doubt that the new Porkys in Minneapolis is a gem and I'm so happy that the family is carrying on the tradition of great food at an afforable price. As to those people that prefer the cheap prices of burger king et al. I challenge you to find a burger king that has a window to the cooler to witness the making of fresh a hamburger.
- Pros: Great Food, Great Service
- Cons: Hard to see with out a sign!
Porky's on Central Avenue
by mjpet
Big disappointment. I was looking forward to a BBQ pulled pork sandwich, but they only serve that at the St. Paul store. I ordered a hamburger and a "small" order of onion rings. Cost was more than a burger, small fries and and medium drink at Burger King. The onion rings were soggy, not crispy. They gave me too many; I threw half of them out. I didn't like them. The hamburger bun was dry. The burger was nothing special. I won't be back. I feel badly for the NE community who allowed them to build on this small lot amidst controversy. Central Ave needs a good restaurant and Porky's is not it.
- Cons: soggy onion rings, dry hamburger bun, too costly
was horrible
