Great!!

by MenuGuru

Really good, Juicy Lucy's and Beer are always a good match! We'll be in again. Try to park on the street closest to the tap, otherwise it might take a while to cross with the traffic.

  • Pros: Juicy Lucy
  • Cons: Parking

5-Star Bar, 3-Star Menu

by cubfanbob

First off, don't get me wrong: I love the Groveland - good beer selection and great atmosphere, it's what a neighborhood tavern should be. That being said, be careful when you order food; several of the menu choices are uninspired at best and disappointing at worst.

Case in point: on my last visit, I was surprised to see that the Tap was now serving a Juicy Lucy. Having had great Lucys at other locations [Matt's, 5-8 Club, Nook] I was intrigued enough to give their version a try. Big mistake - the inside of the burger was almost raw and in several places the beef had an odd chewy consistency.

Next time, I'll just stick to the bar.

  • Pros: Beer selection, atmosphere, clientele, very family- and kid-friendly
  • Cons: Mediocre menu, parking can be scarce

The little tavern has tons of neighborhood charm and affordable food.

In Short
If you're here for burgers or nightly dinner bargains (Tuesday is brat night, then there's Taco Thursdays), grab one of the roomy wooden booths near the front door. If you're just here to hang out, head toward the pool tables, video games and dartboards in the back. No matter where you end up, there's sure to be a TV in view, broadcasting basketball or football.

Favorite Twin Cities Bar

by harrisfolk

Laid back, lots of fun. These reveiws are pretty old on here, so I'll recap: Went no-smoking prior to Saint Paul ban even going into effect, so that problem's gone. The new menu highlights a ton of favorites and I think includes a fish 'n' chips now. Great beers on tap, including Summit EPA, Summit Grand, and Summit Seasonal. Locals know all you need are the Summit beers and Premium, which is also available. Great french fries and cheese curds - expect a wait for dinner Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night - they have gotten VERY busy and popular. Still worth it though. The best element of Groveland Tap is the atmosphere, just the best place to have beers and yuk it up with your pals. Highly recommended.

Could be better with a cook who cares...

by kestondoswell

The Groveland Tap is a great neighborhood bar if you just want to meet for a pitcher or two of beer and some conversation. Unfortunately the two times I've actually eaten there I've been disapointed. The fish I got was all crusty breading with no fish, and hard as a rock. I got their juicy lucy (which they claim is their specialty) and it was way overdone with just barely a hint of cheese on the inside. They do have some good beers though, and I love that they are smoke-free. I found the waistaff friendly. For some reason, the cash machine will only ever give you $5 bills.

  • Pros: good atmosphere, easy to talk, not smoky
  • Cons: bad food

New Menu is Crap

by mysticpoet

A few months ago I discovered their heavenly fish and chips, the best in the Twin Cities. Now I return in January 2003 to discover they have a new menu and not only have they eliminated fish and chips entirely, but their other fish choices are pathetic. I had to get a walleye sandwhich that was hard, flavorless, and not even the tartar sauce could save it. McDonald's has a better fish sandwhich than this! I'm extremely disappointed. The waitress did not care about my disappointment and was more excited about the new menu. I will never go back again. I am heart-broken. Why did they have to change and ruin a good thing?

  • Pros: Sort of cheap, Local atmosphere
  • Cons: New meun sucks, Too much smoke, Uncaring service

Good food/bad service

by fishpaw81

I really enjoy the local bar scene. It's cheap, easy, convenient -- everything you'd expect. But the bartenders are complete jerks.

  • Pros: Good food, Good beer prices
  • Cons: Worst bartenders ever

very warm

by battistini

This woody bar is really comfortable, the type that relaxes every part of you. The food is fine and the beer selection good. It is one of those places where nothing is outstanding yet the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

  • Pros: beer selection, wood interior, atmosphere
  • Cons: parking
