I was a freshly fledged Ph.D. when, 35 years ago, I came to Saint Paul to interview for a teaching job at Hamline U. To get to know me, the faculty took me to The Lexington, and I must say I was impressed. I got the job and moved to St. Paul. Five years later, I was watching my son perform in his very first band concert at Webster Magnet School. He was in third grade, and he had just gotten his first suit. After the concert, he told me he wanted to go eat at The Lexington. Where he got the idea, I don't know, but it was a great idea. Once more, I was impressed; however, when he ordered the pheasant, I gulped: I was just starting a business and the budget was exceedingly tight. I guess my brain must have clicked into the idea that The Lex was too expensive, because I didn't get back there until a month ago--and then I wondered why I had waited so long. The Lex serves the best crabcakes in town, terrific crispy green beans (how do they do it?), calamari, barbecue. Prices are definitely reasonable! In case you're showing off on a budget, though, here's a tip: go for lunch. The Lex is a great place for romance, business and family celebrations. Few restaurants can handle all that and still be there when you want comfort food in unstuffy elegance.

We went to the Lexington for a family gathering, 12 of us in all. We had excellent service, although a little slow. Since this was a birthday celebration and we were all visiting, this was fine with us. All of the meals were wonderful - barbecued ribs, walleye almondine, rueben sandwich, turkey dinner - as were the desserts - bread pudding, chocolate cake, cheesecake. This was a wonderful setting for a family celebration.
Pros: Excellent services, great food.
Cons: A little slow.

My girlfriend and I went here for Valentines Day, and we were very satisfied. Neither of us had heard of the place before we went, but I had gotten a tip from a coworker. We were pleased that we went here when we left. The food was excellent and fairly reasonable. The service was quick and everyone there was very friendly. The ambience of the place makes for an excellent date spot. They even had two guys playing a violin and accordian there for Valentines Day. It was great. I definitely plan on returning.
Pros: Great Food, Excellent Service, Great Ambience
Cons: A little pricey

We found ourselves and two friends at a loss as to where to eat on Christmas Eve. We usually have a big family get together, but a recent wedding sent half of the family to a new family. We were lucky to get a reservation for the Lexington and what a great time we had. The crispy beans are wonderful and calamari done to perfection. I had the braised short ribs, delicious, my husband had the chicken pot pie, beautiful and very good. My son had rare Aui Tuna and it was done great. Our friends dishes were very good also. Our service was wonderful and the wine selection was very good. All in all a very nice comfortable night. Thanks for being open.

I have been the the Lexington three times, and I was impressed every time. The staff is attentive and the food is delicious. They have amazing steaks and the chocolate cake is my favorite desert. It's a little bit pricey, but the food is worth it. It's usually not very crowded either. I will definitely be going back.
Pros: Parking, Great food

The Lexington has a surprising array of menu items that will not disappoint. Start your meal with their fantastic coconut shrimp, then go on to just about anything else. It's all good. The decor is reminiscent of some rich railroad baron club. With deep dark wood work and other assorted trappings througout. I am uncertain if this means they have a dress code.
Pros: Good food, professional service
Cons: Expensive
