Not sure what the person who gave it one star is looking for in a restaurant, but I couldn't disagree more! The Square is a feel good place with great food and fun people, located in a wonderful town that you just want to stroll around in. The fireplace is awesome!! We go regularly and always have a great time. It's the kind of place where it's very easy to strike up a fun conversation with others at the bar. For vegetarians, there are many very nice options - not just the obligatory salad or pasta. At the risk of identifying myself to one of the bartenders.....phenomenal Long Island Iced Teas too!!!

  • Pros: Fun people, great food, and a place you just feel comforatble being in
  • Cons: It's small, so it can get very crowded

This is the cutest restaurant no matter what meal you are eating. I love sitting out on the patio for lunch or dinner! I highly recommend their salmon and their pineapple chicken sandwich! Their burgers are also great. Downtown White Bear has a lot to offer.

If you are over the age of 80, you will like this place... if not, leave the drunken COUGARS and CREEPERS alone there!! My Grandparents would like it, maybe.

  • Pros: To cool to actually serve you
  • Cons: It is still in business

Burgers, sandwiches, soups. This bar has a laid back feel with attentive servers. There's a patio to enjoy with friends on mild evenings. The bar greets you with a blackboard full of lucky sods who has a drink waiting from friends who have pre-purchased a round Check to see if the drinks on me! Bartender is not chatty--a good thing. Can get crowed on weekend evenings during the season.

My fiance and I went in for a late dinner on a Friday night. The seating outside was pretty packed, so we thought we would try inside.

Our server was excellent, but it turned out he was the only server available in the room and had 14 tables by himself. He was constantly rushed, which didn't make us feel very comfortable.

The food was hit and miss. My fiance had a chicken sandwich and the creme brulee for dessert, and both were excellent. I had a philly steak sandwich with steak that was well done and chewy/tough, and vanilla cheesecake which came with a generic Hershey's chocolate-tasting sauce covering the entire cheesecake and plate. The crust was soggy from the chocolate sauce it soaked in. My meal was very disappointing.

I would go again, but I would be VERY choosy with the menu. I have a feeling that everything there is either very good, or not good enough.

I've met friends here several times. Once for brunch when we sat outside, which was very nice. Once for a late afternoon meal. Service is good. Food is great and prices are reasonable. This is a nice place to get together with friends.

I have been going to Washington Square for a number of years and have always had great food! The breakfast is continually wonderful - definitely the best in town. Yes, the services isn't always top-notch, but the food and ambiance makes up for it.

  • Pros: Food, good drinks, good ambiance
  • Cons: the service can be rough

We have been to Washington Sqaure a handfull of times and each time the experience gets worse. The service has always been mediocre, but the last time we went it was so bad it was laughable. We went there for breakfast the last dining experience. From the start our server seemed hurried, a little rough around the edges and unattentive. My mom wanted a skillet with the eggs on the side. The server just couldn't get this. She said, "I can do the hollandaise sauce on the side, but not the eggs." We had a confusing discussion about this matter and when she left the table we still weren't sure what my Mom was going to get. Sure enough, when the meal came out 35 minutes later the hollandaise sauce was on the side, but the eggs were sitting right on top of the hashbrowns. We all stared at it baffled, including our server. She immediatley said, "I am taking this back." At this time my Mom refused, she was hungry. We just couldn't understand why the eggs couldn't be put on the side from the beginning. To top it all off the food was forgettable. We have wanted to really like Washingtion Square, it has so much potential. If you are looking for a great ambience, food and service head on down to 'Ingredients.' FYI: More than half of the people at our table came from restaurant management and service.

I am surprised this place doesn't get more props for the Best Burgers in the Twin Cities. Better than Fuddruckers, Lions Tap, or Matt's Bar. Very Nicely seasoned burger-well-cooked but not chaired still juicy on a fresh-baked bun combined with very good fries. A nice variety of food. Good Service. One of the best casual dining experiences in the Twin Cities. Check it Out!!!!!!

  • Pros: Terrific Food, Very Good Service
  • Cons: Excessive Smoke

In going to the Square would always be a good choice, this even though one of the reviews from a previous visitor stated that the patio furniture was cheep. But oh, things have changed. They have spent money to change them out to make the patio I feel the best in the area & versatile for 3 seasons.

The service is still one of the best in town, & the beer selection is still as always has been, a great selection of your favorite that can not always be found at many bars, as well as things worth trying. The food, though not of an extravagant affair, is what you would expect from a bar & grill. Their home made pizza is outstanding & their hamburgers they pride themselves on.

  • Pros: Good parking, Large beer selection, Great service
