Best local pizza joint

by youngtcer at Citysearch

The pizza is the reason to go here...don't waste time, $ or calories on the pasta! The meatball is the best thing about the spaghetti, and you do get bread served with the pasta, but the pizza is generously portioned and has the right amount of cheese. This is a great place to take a small to mid-sized group out for a hometown meal. The owners are great and the servers sweet.

  • Pros: Great Value, Great Pizza, Friendly Staff, Small town feel
  • Cons: Neighborhood, Small Seating Area

Great food

by brentburnsfan at Citysearch

Mamas has the best pizza I have had to this point in the twin cities. Its not too greasy and they aren't stingy with the toppings. I have also had their ravioli and spaghetti and meatballs which was also very good. The waitresses are very friendly plus you get a free ice cream cone to top it off.

So glad they're in my neighborhood!

by jpberka at Citysearch

My wife and I moved to the North End in October of 2007. I did not know about Mama's at that point. I drove by it several times and always saw the "reopening soon" sign and just thought sadly that it was like the other such signs you see along Rice that you assume have been there and will continue to be there gathering dust for years to come. Not this place! I never visited it before they had their damage, but everything I'm reading here still appies to it today. Great food, great service, great character! A true neighborhood type of place and I'm glad it's so near my house. My vegetarian wife and I can go eat there for just over $20 and be absolutely stuffed and happy when we leave. It reminds me of the family run Mexican places in Denver that my family always frequented - the kind of place that knows that good service and remembering your customers is what it is ALL about. My plan is to bring all of my out-of-town guests to Mama's at some point before they leave. I think it is a true taste of Saint Paul! All I can say is thank you for sticking by the North End Mama's! You could have gone anywhere in town and been successful but you stayed with the neighborhood and I for one REALLY appreciate that!

  • Pros: Food, service, ambiance, portion sizes
  • Cons: Only that it is small! I'd never want it to leave, but often wish it was bigger!

Now Re-Open!

by LawrenceOfArcadia at Citysearch

FYI - Mama's has been open again for the past couple weeks! Time for that hot [derrogatory term for Italian-American that is, apparently disallowed] you've been craving!

When will they reopen????

by tortuga1771 at Citysearch

My mom started going to Mama's when it first opened, as she lived about 7 blocks away. We used to go there every Friday night and one of the picture collages on the wall has a picture of my sister's 9th birthday party. She's 33 now. I have a picture of me on Tony's shoulder when I was 8 years old. Their mostaccoli can't be beat, it's amazing. The pizza is classic and where else can you watch them make your pizza fresh from a little ball of dough? I've watched Peachie stir a vat of sauce in the back, I've made those little ice cream cones like a professional. I visit mamaspizzaparlor every day to see if they've announced their reopening. Just thinking about a plate of pasta there is making my mouth water. Does anyone know when they'll reopen? The website still says "open sometime in November" and on Friday, November 30, I called the number that I've had memorized since 1st grade, and there was no answer. I'm assuming that they were not ready to open. Please, please reopen soon!

  • Pros: delicious, neighborhood place, friendly staff, family friendly
  • Cons: water pipe burst has had mama's closed since feb 07

Family First!

by tdied01 at Citysearch

I have been eating at MaM'a since I was born. I actually have a photo of me at the age of 1 sitting on Santa's lap. They know me and my family by name and face - that makes you FAMILY! You could not ask for a better place to eat. Sometime they do get busy, the wait is always worth it. I can't wait for them to re-open. I just moved back to that part of town and I am craving some good home cooking! Hope you are back soon!

I cant wait for Mama's to reopen. Great family restaurant owned by a great family. Worlds best Mostaccioli, bar none. Comes hot from the oven smothered in cheese. Done to perfection. Service cant be beat. Complete with a bib and an ice cream cone following your dinner. You will feel like family.

  • Pros: The wait staff and management treat you like family.

Mama's is the greatest! The pizza and hot dagos are excellent. The portions are unbelievable! The service is wonderful.

The only con is that it is much too small!!!

We never miss a chance to eat here.
