Decor was beautiful. Smaller than I thought but it was nice.
Yuca tasted great- the potroast out of this world! The flavors and spices all came together.
Had the same waiter both times we went and he was great- helped us with the menu and
his recommendations were right on. Try the Mojito's - awesome. Will definently go back and
visit.
- Pros: service, great tasting food
- Cons: price
You have to try this place - what a find!
by sailgal
We had been wanting to try this place for a long time. Always looked interesting, but it had not worked out for us to go until this week. We should have definitely gone sooner. It was a wonderful experience. The mojito was the best we had ever had, the staff (especially our waiter from Peru) was super attentive and wonderful, and the food was great. My husband had the tuna and I had the beef roast special and both were seasoned to perfection and tender. The valet parking was a definite plus too! My only regret is that we didn't make it there sooner.
- Pros: Valet Parking, great service, great food, great drinks
BLAST FROM THE PAST (1900'S)

Last year on a cold snowblown winter night I drove by Cafe Havana for the 1st time and looked through the windows at a most wounderful sight! Here in Mpls. was a place out of the past. Old building, narrow, white tablecloths, candles glowing, I had to go there someday. Well I did this last sat. and was blown away when the vision matched the reality. Service - perfect. Noise level - great ( you could talk to each other). Price - 85.00 for two ( less than I had expected). Parking - Valet ( a real nice thing in this area, the next door bldg. is S-x World ((Citysearch won't let you use the real word)). Food - Interesting ( in a nice way. Very nice flavor. I had expected hot but I don't think anything on the menu was spicey. We tried a lot of things and the only thing I didn't like was the choc.cake, and that is also the only thing I can spell!) Table - I like booths and got one here as the tables seemed too close together.
I loved this place so much that I won't go back there for a least a year. I usually wear out my love for a place by going there too often. Cafe Havana I intend to savor for some time
Fantastic

My wife , son, and I went there last Saturday and it was fantastic. I have many food allergies and the waiter and manager were both very helpful in assisting me. They prepared the ahii tuna steak for me. Everything was very posh and clean. We had a very nice time. There was live Latin music and free valet. The prices aren't cheap, but they're well worth it. For three of us to eat it was less than a hundred dollars. Try the mojito!
- Pros: everything
- Cons: nothing
horrible customer service!
by emmaqc
We were the only party in there on a Tuesday night, which should have been our first tipoff. I had the shrimp w/okra cornmeal (which wasn't fully cooked!) The food was okay at best. The service was fine (but like I said we were the ONLY ones in there)
After a couple of days I was looking at my bank statement and noticed they charged my debit card twice. It's been over a week now, I have called and called and called the restaurant. I finally had to get my bank involved and the Cafe Havana manager is still dragging his feet about refunding my money! This has been one of my worst customer service experiences. I wouldn't go back anyway, but this fiasco has made it even worse!!!
DON'T EAT HERE!!!!!!
- Pros: nice interior
- Cons: we were the only ones in there!
The food and the scene at this Washington Avenue joint are as hot as a Cuban cigar.

In Short
The space re-creates old Havana's paradise of privilege through telling details: rich dark wood, smoldering lighting, sumptuous velveteen chairs and curtains, and the whiff of good cigars. The crowd is a mix of enamored dates, talkative friends and big families. Start the meal with a mojito and an order of the unprecedented lobster cakes. You'll never forget the ribs, thick with tender, tender meat and dripping with sauce. Lovely sides include mashed yucca, indulgent fried plantains and hearty black beans and rice, the national dish.
Not impressed
by pjax
An incredible disappointment. We spent our 14 year wedding anniversary on New Year's Eve wishing we would have stayed home and ordered a pizza. I wish I could say something positive, but the food was bland and the service was terrible. We expect more from a restaurant at their price point, especially on a holiday.
- Pros: wine list, ambience in bar area
- Cons: service, food, attention to detail
Wonderful

A taste of Old Havana in Minneapolis! From the moment I stepped in, the waiters dressed in white coats went to great lengths to take care of me. I sat at the bar, ordered some great tequila, listened to an amazing jazz band that was playing that night...this place is great. I tried the the pork "viejo" and it was incredible, I would highly reccomend it. There should be more places like this in this world, get rid of the Chili's, the Outback, the Bennigans, this is what life is about.
One-of-a-kind gem

The ropa vieja was lovely, as was the chorizo and plantains. Also check out the mojito martini...And there's live music almost every night!
Not What I Expected
by mlocher
The food was strangely addicting-though $20 for a plate heaped with beans and rice was a little insulting. Went on a Friday night, we were the only table seated, the other patrons were the upscale, apres-work crowd hanging out at the bar (which seemed a little ominous). We were celebrating an anniversary and the experience was not a special one. In short: not authentic food (they did not even have tres leches cake and the plaintains were abismal), decent mojitos-not watered down, pretty dining area (sit in the front, not back by the kitchen). Service was average. Once is enough, wouldn't go back.
- Pros: dining area
- Cons: expensive, no authenticity
