Excellent tenderloin
by chelsealeah
My husband and I went to the Inn for dinner on Fri. night, the day after Valentine's Day. I thought it was very beautiful, romantic, and cozy. My husband thought the steak he had was a little grisly, but my tenderloin was perfect. Also, the wedge salad was delicious. Overall, we had a great time. Can't wait to go back and stay overnight next time!
Second trip to the Inn -- first time for an overnight
by rkagun
We were very happy that we booked a room. Last time we were at the inn for a 100% experience for dinner.
The room was as advertised -- comfortable, quaint, very "inn-ish" with great creature comforts. Loved the sheets and fancy beds! Great night all the way around.
Terrible Valentines Day Dinner
by bjenk
My new wife and I decided to go to the Nicollet Island Inn for our first Valentines Day together. We made a reservation for 7:45 and showed up at 7:40. We were told they were running a little behind and it would be about 15 minutes. We went to the bar to have a drink, and there was only one bartender on staff on what has to be one of the busiest nights of the year. It took forever to get drinks. 45 minutes later we were seated. It was very cozy as the table next to us was about 6 inches away. We ordered the 6-course meal for $65 dollars per person. We also started with two drinks. After about 10 minutes we got our drinks, but they were wrong. We realized this after the waiter was gone, but we didn't see him for the 25 minutes. We drank the wrong drinks waiting for him to come back and when he did we explained and he got us two more drinks (one of which was wrong again). When the food came it was room temperature and mediocre.
The NII was concerned about one thing that night, and that was making as much money as they possibly could, and they sure did off of us, $220 dollars later. The least they could have done is apologize for over booking and terrible service, I don't even care that they charged us for things we didn't order.
I had always heard good things about the inn, and maybe if we had gone another night we would have had a different experience. Overall based on my one experience I certainly won't go back.
This restful hotel offers romantic getaways and an alternative for business travelers on the Mississippi River.

In Short
A mishmash of stone, brick, wood and wallpaper create a harmony of warmth in the lobby. Built in 1893, the building's original purpose (a door factory) bequeathed lots of tall ceilings and heavy timber posts. Although obviously built for romance, the inn also sees a large number of business travelers who want to be close to downtown, but in a quiet setting. The 24 rooms feature high-speed Internet access, newspapers, irons and hair dryers.
Weekday treasure

We stayed at the Inn last Wednesday night for a business meeting the next day. What a wonderful suprise. The rooms have been completely updated. They were so elegant and welcoming. The Aveda products were a plus. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and very gourmet. The entire mid-week experience was a nice change of pace at this beautiful, romantic historic landmark.
- Pros: Romantic, Quiet getaway, Great ambiance
honeymoon haven

My first experience was when my new bride and I spent our first marital night together at the Nicollet Island Inn. It was close to the city, yet away enough for privacy, and we were wisked away by limo to the airport for our carribean cruise. All in all it was an evening to remember. Great rooms great food and a carraige ride if you want one.
- Pros: location, privacy, food
- Cons: access, parking, neighboring services
An Unexpected Romantic Getaway
by abear
Staying at the Inn made a routine conference into a romantic treat. We enjoyed our stay very much. Our room was spacious and overlooked the river. At the time Minnesota was having record warm weather, so we enjoyed the warm breezes and walking outdoors. We visited some interesting restaurants that were within walking distance. The staff at the Inn were very friendly and helpful. The room was interestingly decorated with a reindeer motif and antique furniture. We would like to visit the Inn again. The restaurant was also very good, especially the fresh fish dishes, walleye and salmon.
- Pros: Unique
