I don't normally write many reviews, but I just came back from dinner at Morton's and need to let others know that it's not exactly the great restaurant it claims to be. Dinner started off really well, cocktails were very good, the oysters and tuna tartare were great., some of the best I've had, and I let the server know that Then came the lobster cocktail, "shoe leather" i believe is what the other reviewer said. My husband even said "I know almost nothing about lobster but even I know this isn't good". So we sent it back. Then came the beefsteak tomato salad. I had ordered it with blue cheese. What he brought was the onion vinaigrette. When I told the server I had ordered the blue cheese he said "yeah, but i'll have to make a whole new one". A whole new one would have consisted of 2 big slices of tomato and some blue cheese. I mean, come on. On top of the fact that it's the end of July and the tomatoes we had on our plate tasted like they were shipped from Mexico a week prior. So instead of taking it away and replacing it with what was ordered, he said he'd just bring us some blue cheese dressing and then remarked that the onion vinaigrette was alot better anyway. The steak was very good, great sear to it, good flavor and the souffle was also nice. But stay clear of lobster and make sure your server hears your order. Otherwise, you'll get a guilt trip for him getting it wrong and then a mediocre compromise. We go to alot of restaurants in the Minneapolis area. Believe me, there are alot of better places to spend $240 on dinner for 2.

Pros: good cocktails and great oysters and seared steak

Cons: completely overcooked lobster and less than gracioius response to complaints

We had a table for 10 (including 2 kids) and the staff was super friendly and fun. The food was amazing and the side dishes were enough to share. Very expensive but worth every penny!

Pros: Great food, awesome environment, friendly staff, kid friendly

Cons: Expensive

Mortons has a very nice décor to it, however it is a little bit noisy making some conversations hard to hear with out practically yelling. Prime Rib was excellent and so was the service, everything else was disappointing. Lobster bisque tasted like it came from cambells, the lobster hunk in the bisque was like shoe leather. The lyonaise potatoes tasted like when I forget to take the potatoes off the grill at home not very impressive I think I only took two forkfuls. With appetizers and side dishes like what I sampled and ordered it is probably a good thing that they have an a la carte menu so you can skip the bland dishes, forget the potato and just get the meat. There are many other restaurants out there to try before I come back to Mortons.

Pros: Great Prime Rib, Great Service

Cons: Appetizers, Side dishes too bland

I recently visited Morton's with work colleagues for a celebratory dinner. We were seated immediately despite the fact that we were about 10 minutes late for our reservation, and the service was prompt and very friendly. The ambience was fine, but it did make me feel as though I was in an "old boy's club" because of the very dim lighting and the decor. The booths would probably be perfect for a romantic dinner or intimate celebration though. The food... my goodness! I had the chopped salad (I asked for it without onions and it came with onions, but it still tasted fine) and the single-cut filet mignon. We also ordered creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, hashbrowns, and grilled asparagus for the table. Everything was incredible - the filet mignon was the most delicious thing I've ever tasted in my life! Dessert was a velvet cake and a cheesecake. The velvet cake seemed a bit dry, but the cheesecake was divine. The prices are high but worth it because of the high quality. We all left stuffed to the brim and raving about the food!

Pros: Delicious food, good service, inclusive wine list.

Cons: Pricey, "average" ambience.

Expensive, yes, but worth it! For a special night out, Morton's is a wonderful choice. The presentation of dishes before ordering is nice - for people not familiar with the differences between cuts of beef, this makes it easy to see what you will get. The crabcake and lobster bisque were excellent and the bone-in steak was exceptional! The portions for the appetizers are quite reasonable, and the steak was huge! The value is great, and the ambience is very romantic and sophisticated. The service is very professional, yet friendly.

Recently went to Mortons on a Thursday evening around 5:30 with a group of 3. Made reservation and was seated right away. It is located below street level so no windows and not much light, which worked with the ambience they are going for. Serice was good but I expected a little better/more attention at a high end steakhouse. Waitress brought out all the cuts of meat on a tray but it had celophane over it so some cuts were hard to see. Smoked salmon app was great. Lyonaise potatos were an excellent side dish, and the steak was about the best I have had in downtown Minneapolis. Atmosphere was ok. Had Sinatra in the back ground and some retro pictures of old Mlps, but overall pretty bland.

Pros: Cajun Ribeye, Salmon, Lyonaise Potatos

Went to Morton's for dinner with some friends...we sat in a great booth, great service we felt very cared for, Usually women are ignored but at Morton's we were treated great! The restaurant was very busy but we felt we were in our own private club. We will definately go back...before the other steakhouses.

Pros: service, food

Cons: steps downstairs

I called in advance for reservations and mentioned it was a double birthday celebration, but our table seating was unremarkable as we were seated by a swinging door next to the kitchen. The price for everything is ala carte - your main entree includes nothing. I had the petite ribeye for $34.00 which was completely mundane after having enjoyed steak houses in Nebraska where they truly serve great steaks. Service was attentive but seemed forced friendliness. Overall, we felt it extremely overpriced - over $340.00 was spent WHICH would have been fine if the food and service had equaled the expense.

There are some things in life that have to be experienced...Morton's is one of them. I have been there several times; each better than the last. Filet's are thick and tender, prime rib is small in fat and large in flavor. Sides are huge but good; in fact two can dine on one entree, two sides, and a bottle of wine and go home with leftovers. But beware, it's costly! Definitely worth the extra $$$, though. What sets Morton's apart is the service, which is a notch above Oceanairre or Manny's (two of the best in town). Be it romance or business, you cannot go wrong with Morton's.

Pros: Quality, Service, Atmosphere

Cons: Pricey
