Manager did not care that their food made us sick

by ShakopeeLisa at Citysearch

My husband and I were at Rock Bottom Ale in Minneapolis last night for dinner. The food was very good going down... unfortunately, it was not so great coming back up. Both my husband and I were ill at both ends within three hours of our dinner. I called the restaurant today and I spoke with a manager named Jim who stated it couldn't possibly be their food and he was not willing to even take a look into it. I sincerely hope no one gets ill at the restaurant today as a result of Jim's apathetic attitude. I didn't ask for a refund or anything, since the purpose of my call was not to get something free. It was to let them know that their food is a potential health hazard and they may want to think about checking temps in their refrigerators, etc. However, the manager did not even offer any compensation. He told me he would not do anything for us unless we went to the doctor and our doctors could find something that PROVED that the sickness was a result of their food. The manager was less than caring and made it clear that he had no intention of following up on the complaint. He insisted there was nothing wrong with the food. What the manager doesn't realize is that even though the food may be fine, illness can be caused by a food handler simply forgetting to wash his/her hands after using the bathroom. Again, I was not expecting to be reimbursed for my meal (although it would have been nice), but a simple "I'll check into it-- thank you for calling and letting us know. Hopefully it wasn't our food, but I will check into it..." would have sufficed for me. Rather, Jim gave plenty of attitude and was very rude. I would have thought he would've been thankful that my first call was to the restaurant to alert them before reporting the restaurant to the Department of Health, but I suppose that is the route that I will have to take since Jim and Rock Bottom Ale both do not seem to care about their patron's safety.

  • Pros: The beer is very good and very smooth, food tasted good
  • Cons: Food made us ill

Geat Beer

by jimmied at Citysearch

Great beer and great food by a caring staff. Previous reviewer knows nothing about Health Dept. inspections and how food can make you ill. I am a regular diner and have nothing but positive comments to make about Rock Bottom and their staff especially the night bartenders.

  • Pros: beer and food
  • Cons: parking

Lively brewery attracts a happy hour crowd during the week and late night revelers for food and dancing on weekends.

by Erin Chambers at Citysearch

In Short
The shiny, cherry-wood paneling, long wooden bar and exposed copper brewing vessels prove this bar is more about the beer than the menu. Young professionals stop in for lunch and return for great happy hour specials during the week, while the nearby theaters and hotels keep a steady going-out crowd on weekends. The beer-infused menu includes Brown Ale chicken and asiago cheese dip with handmade beer bread.

Clubby restaurant and brewpub in Minneapolis' theater district.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
The menu represents bar food at its best, while the oak booths, English-style pub signs and art-deco lighting envelop you in civilized comfort. Don't expect to be seated pre-theater without a reservation: Rock Bottom is predictably packed between 6pm and 8pm.

The Food
Appetizers, such as the piquant Asiago cheese dip with toasted beer bread, are meant to be shared, and everything else--from salads to desserts--could be as well. Rock Bottom smokes its own ribs, salmon (for grilling or deep-frying in a unusual version of fish-and-chips), chicken (for chicken enchiladas) and even the tomatoes that make an addictive companion to angel-hair pasta, garlic and basil. Desserts--a mousse-like brownie served with ice cream and raspberry sauce, a carrot cake served with caramel sauce--add a twist to tradition. Part of a small, Colorado-based chain, Rock Bottom makes five brews, from pale ale to full-bodied stout, on-site.

Great atmosphere, horrible service

by drae_johnson at Citysearch

My friends & I went here for drink 2 weeks ago, the drinks were a little pricey, but the appetizers were excellent. The waitress was by far the worst we've ever encountered. She stopped by our table so many times to ask if we needed anything else & if we said no, she copped an attitude. We felt pressured to keep ordering drinks like she was trying to get us to spend money or leave - even though there were plenty open tables. At night's end, she gave us our bill & even though we marked whom had what, she told us we had to add each person's total up separately...which I have NEVER, EVER been asked to do, especially not in Minneapolis. Having been close to 40, you'd think this woman would've had manners. The manager apologized for the terrible waittress, but seemed a little disinterested in the complaint.

  • Pros: food, atmosphere, drink&food selection
  • Cons: SERVICE, a little expensive

AWESOME

by jpoengland at Citysearch

This place Rocks For Happy Hour food and drinks. JOIN THE MUG CLUB... it is free. You get a card which allows you to buy drinks at a big discount to normal, and it is valid all the time.

The micro brews are great!

This is definitely my favourite place to drink downtown (Some of the waiters, however are VERY rude.... )

Disappointed

by johnsoam at Citysearch

We go for drinks and occasionally food at Rock Bottom at least once every two weeks. Up until our last visit, we have loved it. Great drinks, plenty of bar seating, good food. We normally sit in the bar. However, on our last visit we sat in the restaurant and had a very rude, patronizing waiter who forgot drinks, mixed up 3 of 4 food orders, and neglected to check on us once he had served the food. After paying the bill, two members of our party noticed him count the cash, turn around, and say something rude in our direction. Very disappointed by the service.

  • Pros: lots of bar seating, good food
