Not worth the price
by speckersmama
I felt that the wait staff was really friendly and quick, however I would have preferred that they not touch my food with their bare hands.
I was there with three other people and we all had steak, it was cooked exactly how we asked however, the meat had no flavor what-so-ever. The asparagus were all the size of a small tree branch which translates to really tough, woody asparagus. The mushrooms were big and chewy as well. The only thing at the table that had any flavor was the mashed potatoes - they were good. I would have to say that if you are looking for caveman like portions and chewy veggies, this is your place, if you would like a managable size portion and some flavor try someplace else.
- Pros: Friendly Staff
- Cons: flavorless
Good Old Fashion Time
by sweeteat
What a great time! Distinguished decor, remarkable food with enormous portions, extensive wine list, friendly, intelligent staff, attractive, well to do guest. This is what I call a perfect place for dinner or just drinks and appetizers. Great people watching as well. Manny's may have a new location but I would follow where ever they went!!
- Pros: Everything is well done
- Cons: Waiting for a table
A very enjoyable evening
by Funpolis
I went to Manny's with several co-workers. We had a great time. It is expensive, but the portions are huge. I think I must of spent two hours eating my 20-oz New York Strip. However, every bite was great. The waiter mentioned that they have a new stove the cooks hotter and can caramelize the meat better, it definitely made a positive difference.
- Pros: Great Steak
- Cons: Not for those without $$$ (or an expense account)
Located in the historic Foshay tower, Manny's puts a modern spin on the old-school steakhouse.
by Molly Priesmeyer
In Short
This award-winning local steak house got a serious makeover in 2008. Now in the historic and gorgeous Foshay tower, Manny's is still thick with all of the meaty, traditional fare and atmosphere that would make Frank Sinatra proud: juicy and generous steaks, lobsters and side dishes. But the new Manny's puts a unique twist on the steaks-and-chops joint by sprucing it up with healthier dishes and modern black-and-white décor that's as tantalizing as the marbleized cuts of beef.
Overrated

A lot of bravado without super high quality to back it up. Prices are ridiculously high. Ambiance is lacking in the bright, cafeteria-style dining room.
Best Steak in the Twin Cities, No Contest!
by randyd
My wife and I revisited Manny's for the 1st time in a while recently, and it made me wonder what kept me away so long. From the start of our visit, the service was spectacular! We enjoyed a couple very well prepared and visually appealing cocktails before ordering our dinners. When they arrived, I once again remembered what a steak is SUPPOSED to taste like. So many restaurants now use such poor cuts of meat and prepare them so badly, that you tend to think that's the way it's supposed to be. At Manny's, the New York Strip I had was outsdanding! It was very flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The side of mushrooms added to it were the perfect touch. My wife ordered crab legs, and received 2-pounds of the best crab she's ever tasted. We also had sides of hash browns, and asparagus to accompany our meal. Although it was a bit expensive, I would do it again in a second. I would recommend ordering meals that can be shared, as we did. The portions are EXTREMELY generous, and too much for any one person to eat. My only wish would be that they offer more wines by the glass. Their list is extensive, but if you don't want an entire bottle, your limited as to what you can enjoy. However, this is just a small setback in what was otherwise a perfect night out. We will return soon.
- Pros: Very good food and outstanding service
- Cons: Portions extremely large, and meant to be shared. Better with groups.
Good food, excessive portions
by navypinstripes
We went to Manny's because we've heard so many rave reviews about it over the years and temptation finally got us. As others have mentioned, the ambiance was loud and tables were in close quarters to one another. The food was very good and the steaks were cooked exactly how we asked, so in that respect we were very pleased. However, we didn't feel their food was any better than other steakhouses we have tried and that the high price was due to the excessive portion sizes rather than quality above and beyond what you can get anywhere else. For example, my ribeye was 20 oz and $44.95 and our $9.95 key lime pie was 1/4 of a whole pie, I believe. We would've been perfectly happy with 1/2 the portions and paying 1/2 the price. We enjoyed our meal and appreciate an expensive meal that offers something unique to the dining experience, we just didn't feel like we found that here. We're glad to tried Manny's, but given the cost, we'll probably eat our steak elsewhere.
- Pros: steaks good how you ask for them, good food
- Cons: oversized portions drive prices way up.
Exceptional Food
by kburger
This 58 year old male's first visit to Manny's and it won't be my last. Had the best filet I've ever eaten. Rest of group had similar experience with the food. All of the food - the asparagus, the loaded mashed potatoes, the brownee/strawberry/ice cream/wiped cream dessert as well as the entree was extremely well prepared, flavorful and enormous in size. The potatoes and dessert can feed 6 (not 2 as advertised). The service was outstanding. My only complaint would be it was quite noisy. The layout of the restaurant and the hard surfaces create a loud atmosphere making conversation a little bit difficult. All in all, though, an exceptional dining experience.
the dream lives

Manny's is a perfect restaurant it delivers amazing food every single time. It makes you happy to be an American male in some sort of way. Red meat, great red wine and service, guys like that along with dark wood, plenty of cool photos and the occasional courageous hot visiting woman. The cesear salad delicious, the house chips perfect, and everything is overblown yet tasteful cus it delivers the flavor of excess. Manny's is the best of what America wants to be. It is the only restaurant in Minneapolis that is world class. The bar and wait staff are fabulous and I'm goin there tonight to put my teeth into a perfect bone in rib eye.
- Pros: woman get treated like women used to
- Cons: none
not sure how they'd overcook your food here
by skarkmatt
You're in a high dollar steakhouse. Carnivores eat here. The waitstaff is sassy (they should be!), and they know why they're employed. They're diverse, exceptionally talented, and accurate representatives of the Manny's vibe. Dry humor? Perhaps. Forward and perhaps tastefully offensive? Periodically! Rude? Absolutely not. If you want to be pampered, go somewhere else, and you won't be missed. When I want to devour a steak, Manny's delivers no disappointment.
Don't forget, you're still in a high dollar steakhouse. A rapport is built and when you pick your steak your server will tell you exactly what your level of doneness means before you order. How this disconnects for those reviewers saying "they overcook the food" from this point is confusing due to the effort spent maintaining a level of understanding before you make your choice. I am suspicious that ignorance wrecks one's meal more often than bad service in these cases. Beyond that, if I ever EVER received a steak that was overcooked from Manny's, I'd simply send it back, and so should you. It is not disrespecful or an embarassment to one's self to address mistakes when they're made. With admitted zeal I will say that I'm not convinced that this is something that actually happens that often.
Also, if you think pure and simple recipes with quality ingredients are bland, don't come here, we don't want you. Feel free to pick up a spicy ranch pesto chipotle flavor-of-the-year steak at Outback or Timber Lodge or whatever instead. Salt and pepper for me, thank you.
- Pros: steak, steak, steak
- Cons: location
