Mushy fried rice and Sushi made me sick!!!!

I'd always looked at Ichiban as one of those fancier/special restaurants. The first time I'd ever been there was prom but of course at that age everything seemed fancy and over the top. My fiancé and his cousin who came into town over the weekend decided to visit since we all hadn't been there in years. Ichiban was not how I remembered it- it looked extremely beat down. The 1st thing that caught my attention was the cheap Christmas lights that were stringing from the mirrored walls and ceilings-TACKY. Even though we had a reservation, we still waited 15-20 minutes to be seated. My fiancé ordered the teriyaki chicken and shrimp dinner and his cousin had the teriyaki scallops and filet mignon dinner. I had sushi, a yellowtail roll & winter roll. The show was horrible, I don't think our chef knew what he was doing because he banged his utensils on the table so much that it just became this loud, annoying sound-nothing artful, nothing extraordinary The food on the other hand was disgusting. My fiancé's fried rice was cooked in so much butter that it made the fried rice soupy. His cousin's dinner wasn't any better- his scallops weren't cooked through so they had to bring it in back and recook it for him! Their entire dinner was over drenched w/sauce, almost as if the chef knew the food was bland so he poured on the sauce to give it some flavor. To top things off, something in the sushi made me sick. I think it was because the fish wasn't as fresh or it could have been from eating one of the uncooked scallops, whichever it was, we won't ever return to Ichiban again. My advice to Ichiban is to retrain your chefs and renovate! For everyone else, take your out of town guests elsewhere, there is so much more to Mpls than this gigantic hole in the wall.
