Sweet place with sweet people. What I remember most is how fantastic Carolyn, not sure on spelling; is. What amazing talent cutting, styling my hair! She made my hair do things that I didn't even know it could. What talent. You should be on one of those hair genius TV shows, showing off your talent. I am not an expert but she took the time and showed me how to do it my self at home too. Great gal, Carolyn!!!!
Pros: Easy to get to and parking right out front. Talented Carolyn with hair. Inexpensive.
Cons: I have not had any bad exp. there.

I visited the 42nd Street Salon after reading reviews from other users on this site. I had been straightening my hair for 35 years ( I'm 50 years old ) and had come to the end of my rope as far as trying to pretend I had staight hair. I was tired of running from door way to door way on humid days, never going to the Boundry Waters because there was no electricity for my hairdryer, getting a wedding invitation for August and exclaiming " August?! What about my hair?" The crowning moment in my revelation was when my husband and I went to Germany and I started my hairdryer on fire the first time I used it. My mouth was open in shock for approximately 15 minutes as I pondered two weeks without my partner in crime. Enough.......I've had it........I'm done. So, my search began for acceptance of my curls. One year later I finally had memorized the Curly Girl book, but still couldn't find a way to deal with my hair. Enter Theresa at 42nd Street. I sat down in the chair, told her I had never been a good judge of what looked good on me as far as my hair went, and told her to do what she wanted. A total leap of faith for me---you have NO idea! She cut it dry and I saw her do things with my hair that no other hair stylist had ever done. And I have to tell you........I LOVE MY HAIR!!!!!!! I've never actually said that before...it felt funny coming out of my mouth. My family and friends have been complimenting me on my hair like crazy. It literally takes about three minutes to style and I'm out the door. I know it sounds crazy, but I think about how my hair has held me back all these years and now I'm all about traveling to Florida, doing the "pack light" trips without a seperate carry on for my hairdryer and round brushes, etc. Free at last! Free at last! I highly recommend Theresa at 42nd Street , and please go in with the attitude that today you're changing your life via your hair......something that I think we 'curly girls' understand!

Theresa was able to understand exactly what I had in mind for my little son's (curly, shaggy, preschool) hair style and gave him his best haircut yet. We're so happy to have found her - she's a real professional and very talented at what she does. I was so impressed that I went in a week later for a haircut of my own. She was very knowledgeable about how to make the most of my curls and I can honestly say that this is the best my hair has looked in 10 years. The staff was friendly and supportive and you could tell as other clients came and went for their appointments that they were loyal to the salon for good reasons. Great job! Very professional and stylish salon - I'm really looking forward to coming back for some of the skin treatments too. Bottom line - If you want your curly hair to look good, whether it's springy and tight or weak and wavy like mine was; Theresa is THE stylist to see. Thank you!!

I just went back to E 42nd Street Salon for a second hair cut. My hair is curly and it has been difficult to find a stylist who really knows how to cut my hair. The first time I went in, Carolyn cut my hair and showed me how to care for it. She cut it dry, which was a first for me. But I loved it. The second time I went in, Teresa cut my hair. She cut it wet and the style is just as good as my first cut. The Deva Concepts products really make a difference for me. I love my curls now and won't blow-dry them smooth again!
Pros: Really care about customer.

The salon is nice and my hair looks good, but the stylist (Carolyn) doesn't really listen to my requests. I've been to her a few times and it's as though she is going to do what she wants to do regardless of what I say because she knows better. I went in for a trim and when I commented on how short it was she said no it's not. If you don't have a haircut in mind when you go in and have an extra hour and 45 mins to spend she's a good stylist.

Upon further investigation, I asked around and have heard nothing but good things about this salon, though i haven't been there myself.

I have curly hair. Until I read the book CURLY GIRL, I tried to pretend I didn't. I've been using Massey's techniques as best I can for the past two years or so with decent results. What was missing was a stylist who understood them. Imagine my joy when I discovered that Carolyn, at East 42nd Street Salon, had been TRAINED in Massey's techniques. I called for an appointment immediately, and boy, am I happy I did. She not only gave me the best cut I've ever had (curly or "straight"), but she gave me "how tos" in a number of areas of curly hair care. On top of which, she is very warm and personable and very easy to talk to. Forget 5 stars, as far as stylists go, I'd give her a perfect 10.

It's been over a week and I am very happy with everything: hair cut, location, cost, and the atmosphere of the salon. I have never gotten so many compliments on my haircut as I have this time around. Even from complete strangers. Angie was a great stylist. She really listens and also gives feed back. Very honest which I appreciate. I'll be back in a few months. See you soon, Angie!

I went in to get a brow wax and tint from Desiree and couldn't believe how great they turned out. She really has an eye for color and shape. On the same day I got a haircut from Cheri. Cheri is the most artistic, creative , and personable stylist I have ever had. The cut was aaawsome!! I plan on getting my lashes permed next. I can't wait to try all the services.
Pros: Open on sunday

East 42nd Street Salon has been my salon for several years. I am a loyal customer because Nancy Root does fabulous colors and cuts. People frequently compliment me on my hair, and it's all because of Nancy.
