Time to relax
by Lizzard
Here is my great day off. My husband and I go to Williams, grab a city pages or w/e, walk downstairs, sit at the bar with a pitcher of beer and tons of peanuts and just relax. The bartender downstairs is always nice and friendly and smart enough to leave me enjoy my beer and the paper on a bad day. Great for chattin and just being able to relax with good friends and more beer than you can imagine. I have found the wait staff to be just ok, I really have had much much better service when I have actually sat at the bar. If you choose to go to Williams please just relax and have a good time.
- Pros: beer and peanuts
- Cons: inconsistent service
Good place for great beer!
by LJoo83
William's is a typical college esque bars (e.g. not a place for a first date!). However, it's not a bad place to sit outside and enjoy a good beer admist the pretentious Uptown atmosphere.
We stumbled upon this place b/c we weren't in the mood for the meat market scene (e.g. Stellas, Bar Abilene, et al). It was a breezy, warm summer afternoon and a micro brew while sitting outside sounded great.
The beer was a bit on the expensive side but it is Uptown after all. Don't make the same mistake we did and be ignorant to the fact there are over 100 beers on tap in the basement. Yeah, I found this out a few days after our adventure to William's.
- Pros: The beer
- Cons: Cost
Absolutely Disgusting
by HFKDL
Considering my boyfriend spent all of Valentine's Day throwing up thanks to a burger he ate at this fine establishment the night before, I would definitely not recommend William's. Our complete ditz of a server also spilled a beer on the lap of another person with us and broke the glass which cut her finger. Was her meal or even that beer free? Absolutely not. What I do recommend is that William's cleans up their act before the Health Dept. comes calling.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Everything
Large beer menu, lazy service
by ackermanamy
I went to Williams to get a few beers and have some food. The beer menu is huge, full of micro-brews. They have the list sorted into where the beer is brewed, which I don't find very helpful. I would have rather seen it broken down into categories of beer so you know what to order. I ended up with a beer that was expired, which tasted awful. A friend and I shared nachos, and I thought they were really good. Not overprocessed like some bar food can be. I thought our server did not do a very good job - we had to wait a while between rounds and to get our check. She just wasn't very helpful or nice. Still, williams is a great place to chill out with lots of beer!!
- Pros: lots of beer
- Cons: slow service
This is where the boys are
by jmfix
Williams is always a total sausage fest (hint hint single ladies!). Why? Because they have every beer imaginable up to order and bartenders are quick with them. Because there is no cover to get in. Because it's no frill and the basement bar reminds them of college keg parties, only with the added bonus of peanut shells all over the floor. And because they can play games in the pool room and have audible conversations with their friends. Check it out ladies--and make note that if you aren't a beer drinker, they are prefectly capable of making you a girly shot like a washington apple too!
- Pros: Big beer selection, not as uppity as other Uptown bars
- Cons: peanuts all over the floor, not for the trendy of heart
Low-key place to hang out with friends
by carolinealexandra
Williams is a really nice, casual, peanut-shells-on-the-floor kind of place to grab a drink and hang out with friends. Their margaritas are a bit on the salty side, but the ambiance is really nice...just get there a little early to stake out a table and a dart board!
- Pros: Great ambiance
- Cons: So-so drinks, and can get quite crowded
You can't go wrong with a menu of nearly 400 different brews, free peanuts and a basement overflowing with popcorn.

In Short
This popular Uptown bar claims one of the area's largest beer selection: 300 bottled brews and 70 different draft selections that are updated every Friday. Williams is popular with college students and Uptown regulars and the bar has a split personality to accommodate the varied crowd. The upstairs pub attracts a clean-cut crowd, while the sloppy, comfortable basement "nut bar" is a slacker's sanctuary of free popcorn and peanuts, with pinball and dartboards.
It's a Bar

OK, here is the real deal from someone who's spent plenty of time there. William's is a bar!
The food is OK, about average for bar food... BUT, the buffalo wings are the best in town, hands down, and you can't beat the wing special on Monday nights. Thursday nights are usually packed, with great drink specials until 11PM, and plenty of eye candy (have fun fighting the 22 years olds off as you try to get a drink). Other than that, they do have a great beer selection, it IS a bit expensive if you stray from the specials, and entertainment options are plentiful. They have pool, darts, Golden Tee, foosball, NTN Trivia, and video games.
This is not a trendy place nor does it try to be. It is a good bar and can be a good time if you're with the right crowd. Expect too much, and you'll probably be disappointed.
- Pros: Buffalo Wings, Beer Selection, Good Specials
- Cons: Over-priced, Serice is average

Good for a guys night out. Lots of good bar games and HUGE beers. If you want a low key- low maintenance night- its an okay time. Dont dress up- youll stick out big time. Defiantly a BAR. They do have a good happy hour.
- Pros: Beer, Happy Hour
- Cons: Sausage fest
